Thanks to Artful Dodger - spinne1 - mlrproducts for the input but now its more hard to decide :( :( :(

because the powershot series is down to S2 IS and A620 and the LX-1 from Panasonic

the camera i'll use @least 4 years .. i wanna try to scretch every penny out of my buy

Since you brought this up...I bought the A620 and sent it back. I think I just have bad luck so someone please tell me different. It was great during the day but when inside the house or even to zoom in on the moon at night using my tripod it was painfully slow. I timed it, anywhere from 4-6 seconds to full zoom. Now I'm coming from having an A75 and that thing is quick with the zoom, quicker than the A620 was. Like I said I seem to get troublesome electronics as I really wanted the A620 but even after I sent it back the next one was the same way. So maybe I got two bad ones but as of now I'm back to using my A75 and really want a nice new cam. as well. Like you my next camera will last me for some time so I'm waiting to see what others have to say about certain models.
If anyone works in a camera shop maybe they can give a nice review of certain cameras in this post. Really anyone that has said cameras as well would help :)

Get the Canon SD700 IS. It's a small point and shoot, but also has the IS (image stabilization). I've got an IS lens on my Rebel XT and it absolutely amazing. I wish I had it on my point and shoot camera now, but can't justify spending another 500 bucks.

for others looking:

Canon Powershot S80 - wide angle lens, 8.0 MP, 3.6x optical zoom
Canon SD 550 - 7.2 MP, 4x Optical zoom, small footprint
Canon Powershot S3 - 6.0 MP, 12x Optical zoom, not so small though

(not like i sell them or anything)
