iPad Pro What Can't you do on your iPad Pro ?

I'll make this simple instead of praising the things we can do I'll ask what Can't you do on your iPad Pro that limits you to still need a PC or Mac?

I'll just say I have edited documents in Word that seemlesly mesh with OneNote and Word including my handwritten notes in red pen Apple Pencil and done my taxes scanned W2s and other forms with the camera and Printed what I need from my Canon MG. Edited and cut video for YouTube and added in effects and transitions. And so much more.

It's to the point I have a hard time thinking of things I need my PC or Mac for at all.

The limitations are really in the apps, not the device's capabilities. But here is one:

I own a music production company, and spend lots of time uploading and downloading sound files to/from FTP sites. Documents by Readdle has been a great app for this, and it works flawlessly. However, when I download WAV files, I need to check the sampling rate to see if they are 44.1 or 48kHz, and then I need to see if they are 16-bit or 24-bit. Sometimes I will have 40 or 50 files to check at one time, and I have yet to find a solution on the iPad to do this, and even on the Mac it is cumbersome. On a Windows PC, I can just open the folder up in Windows Explorer, change the view settings to add the columns I need to see, and then just browse down the list of all 40 or 50 files and check them in a minute or two.

I'd love if there was some sort of app to do this on an iPad, but the best I have found is one that lets me open one file at a time and check it -- not a very time efficient way of doing things.

I can not do AutoCAD, Photoshop, QuickBooks Pro and back up my iPhone in iTunes for just a few.

Love the iPad but they are limited.

Apple could allow them to do more but they do not want them to compete with their other products.

Take a look at "AudioShare" by Kymatica. It takes one tap and about 1 second per file to view sample rate info, etc

It's all about the programs and multitasking for me.

Can't rip the DVDs I buy with Handbrake
Can't use all the output features of Scrivener to create ebooks. Have to use the Mac version for that.
Can't easily download update files for plex and apply them to my NAS. Trying to remote in to my NAS with an iPad is awful.
Can't use Calibre as a central location for all my eBooks.
Need the Mac for my iPhone backup, I cannot just use iCloud services

And there's just something about watching a twitter feed auto scroll as you rip a DVD and look at Safari and/or YouTube while installing updates to programs and watching the update progress, having an iPhone sync happening in the background, downloading Kindle books from Amazon to Calibre. Did all that last night when I got home from work. I can't quite do all of that simultaneously on an iPad.

Yep, and Macs/PCs are "limited" too. They aren't as portable as an iPad, they don't have good cameras, they are susceptible to viruses, they don't have LTE, they don't have Touch ID, most have crappy screens, and they don't run the iOS apps I use on a daily basis.

It takes two desktops, one laptop, 2 iPads and an 7+ to get me through the day.

Desktops are both iMac 27 units running WIndows 7 on BootCamp. Laptop is the new Surface Pro with performance base. The Surface Pro is likely the most powerful but it is what we call the doomsday machine in case my office building burns down or I end up in the hospital and have to keep things going from there. I look at the laptop like insurance. I take complete backups home everyday.

My company file size will not allow anything but full desktop Quickbooks Pro with a 5 person network. No choice for AutoCAD. I have too many years invested in Photoshop to move to a 2nd class product like Pixelator but if it works for you, great.

@960design was giving you alternatives to what you suggested. Not everyone utilizes one solution and there multiple angles for all users. Why is that a problem For you? Sure, you have restrictions to what you use daily, but obviously other forum members don't know that. Right?

I don't get your "genuine spreadsheet" comment. I have a Numbers financial planing spreadsheet that I wrote. This is a genuine spreadsheet with graphs, and tables (of course, duh?) embedded. It works great on iPhone, iPad, Mac and even the iCloud version. it is a 50-year solver that target various financial paths depending upon investment earnings, taxes, inflation rates, etc., etc, etc. works great.

It's interesting how those that tend to brag about how big their company files are and all the robust programs they use at work are able to log onto an iPad forum during work hours. Makes me doubt their claims.

iMovie on the iPad is a great example. It works well for basic video editing but the potential is there for it to be much more powerful. A few simple additions such as adding more than two video streams or the ability to add text at any point and location instead being limited to using titles would make it a whole lot more productive on the iPad.

I wish I could transfer video from my dashcam SD card to my iPad. I've tried the dongle but the iPad just doesn't recognize the files at all. I would love an external storage option for movie streaming too.

I use a SnapScan iX500 daily and this app:

I'm not so sure about which options you may need with OCR, but I can create searchable PDF's very quickly.

NOTE: You do need a 'real' computer to initially setup the scanner, but after that it is all wireless.

Can't get the full iTunes experience, even if iTunes is a hated app! For example, can't apply changes to song names or artists in an iOS device.

Also, cannot quickly open links in new tabs. It might seem small, but it's a time-saver in the desktop.

You are correct, I do not understand your use case from a couple lines of text.

My company uses CPAs, that run Dells with Windows... the irony.

I had about 10 years PS experience before I jumped the wagon when it went to the Cloud Solution. I now use Pixelmator for quick work and Affinity for release, among others.

Completely agree there. I have taught intro classes in JS on iPads using a commercial JSBin account ( you can request a free pro account for education, JSBin people is good people or do it using just free accounts ), but it is painful to say the least. Doable as a checkbox in a resume, but not currently recommended.

That is available today. I use Sandisk Connect but there are plenty others such as Kingston Mobilite, RAVPower Filehub etc.
