Hi everyone,

I have a iPhone 3G and was wondering what cool features or apps can I put onto it? Anyone have any particular recommendations?

I mean stuff like change the icons add a screensaver etc...

Also Jailbreak is not an option :)

So what cool things do YOU have on your iPhone?

Thank you :D

Well, if you want to change icons/ add a screensaver, you'll have to JailBreak it.

Pretty much the farthest customization you can do on your non-JB'd iPhone is to get new apps.

any good free ones out there?

Palringo is the best free instant messaging app out there

i also like Labarynth i bought the full version though makes the game ast waaaay longer 500+ levels i think.

tap tap revenge is a good game though i prefered it when it was jailbroken and you could play songs from your library as appossed to having them make songs that you can download to play

Facebook app is great for Facebook and not the cluttery internet version it has chatting ability too :D

Either Endless Walls or Backgrounds is a good app to get those awsome looking backgrounds that simply dont show up in google searches.

those are the main ones i use that are free

a jailbroken iphone is SOOOOOOO much better than a non jailbroken iphone..

i would never Not jailbreak my phone. soo much more you can do.

copy paste video record download movies and the list goes on... i feel bad for the people who have some lame excuse why they wont jailbreak their iphone

I'm scared to

why there is absolutly NO reason to be scarred .. its so easy and you add so much functionality to your iphone

good video recorder. more camera options... games. NES GENESIS. GBA SNES.

more control over your phone. added settings toggles... copy paste.. and soo much more i havent even explained

I would say the most best (and addictive) app on my iPhone is Super Monkey Ball! It's not free but it's great fun. If you've ever played the "Original" version on the Gamecube then you'll love this :)

Enjoy you're new phone!

Don't listen to all the people who say to jailbreak your phone. It is not great at all. If you want to customize youre springboard, you have to use a program called winterboard which is BRUTAL on the RAM. You're phone will become twice as slow as it was without it. There is a video recorder app called cycorder which is great for video but uploading to your computer is a nightmare (which basically renders it useless for typical users). iRealSMS & BiteSMS are both buggy as hell and slow on top of it (kinda ruins the beauty and speed of SMS). Other than that, there are no really useful apps for Jailbroken phones. PDA Net, which is by FAR the most useful app in Cydia installer, used to be free but not anymore.

I jailbroke by phone for 2 weeks and the phone slowed down DRAMATICALLY. Granted, it was significantly slower with winterboard installed, but even without it the phone did not have the same user experience. Anyone who says otherwise, is fooling themselves or is just oblivious to how fast the iPhone is with a fresh 2.2 install.

I totally agree. i was big into jailbreaking and I had alot of cool apps (at least in concept), but they were all buggy and my phone would crash and have problems all the time not to mention the lag. I now sport a non-jailbreak iphone. I love all the people who say "If it has problems, you didnt do it right", but come on, how hard is it to use pwn software. Its not.

One cool app I use on my phone is a program called caption crunch. it allows you to replace the time with text or create a fake carrier. You don't have to have a JB iphone for it. I like randomly changing the carrier on my friend's phone and inserting "Roaming" where his time use to be. It's horrible I know, but I can only do it once per friend. I running out of friends. Anyone want to be my friend ? :D

yawn...

cool != unjailbroken iPhone...unless of course you have the I AM RICH app, then you're cool.

JB isn't for everyone.

Once you list something that I care about, I'll pay attention.

Until then, why can't people understand that I just don't WANT to. Gah, why is that hard for people to believe?

Why do you pick Wendy's over Burger King? Because you're scared of Burger King!? Give me a break. You do what you want and I'll do what I want.

That's a horrible analogy. Better analogy would be like buying a new TV and only allow to watch handful of channels and half the shows are blocked!

You shouldn't, and I certainly don't care that you don't care.

Look, I posted a response to the guy who said people like me are afraid.

You responded instead. Ok, fine. But if you don't care, why did you answer for that guy? Let him respond for himself then.

I mean, really. Why are you posting if you don't have an opinion?

I mean, really, you can't read? My opinion is that your analogy is wrong.

Some people like Burger King, some people like Wendy's.

Some people like the things Jailbreaking can do, some people don't like them.

POINT: Everyone has the own preferences and should do what they want.

I'm still not seeing what's wrong about any of that. Sorry!

It's obvious that I cannot lead you outside of your little car (world).

Point is, jailbreaking isn't like a preference of color (or food in your example). It's matter of limitation for an electronic device. One is heavily handicapped and the other isn't. Hence my analogy of having a brand new TV that only allows you to watch limited channels with limited programming.

But at a trade off of decreased reliability and system performance.

If someone is happy with that trade-off, that's great. I have NEVER told anyone to not jailbreak. People are happy with it and that's fine. It's just not for me.

But it's disingenuous of you to say that jailbreaking is better in every single way when actually there are compromises.

That's besides the point. The point is that your analogy does not accurately reflect the difference between JB and non-JB, hence I posted my response to it.

Discussion about the cost/benefit to JB is all over this forum, no point going into it.
