I can safely say I will upgrade after V2 comes out. Only because I had to sell mine for financial reasons. If I still had it, I wouldn't upgrade until my V1 had crapped out and no longer worked. I don't need two devices with face time and all this other crap. That's what my iP4 does for me. The iPad was a true media consumption device for me. It was my ereader, blog reader, youtube'r, forum checker, pdf/doc/iWork storage/editor.

from reading threads like these, it's pretty obvious that some people just care about getting the latest and greatest from Apple even if their current machine is more than suffice for their current needs and wants.

I bought my iPad on launch day and I'm happy. If the time comes and I'm at the point where the new updates feel like is worth it, then we'll see.

I'm not a new generation hopper like some fan boys in here.

My friends think that I am a "new generation hopper" but I am anything but. I skipped the iPhone 3GS because the 3G was fine for me, but by the time the 4 was announced, my 3G 16GB was at its maximum and quite slow. When I upgraded to the 4, my friends kidded me about having to have the newest thing, but I pointed out to them that I had my 2003 vintage PC until 2009...and the laptop I am using (both my Macbook and my Windows laptop) are both 2008 vintage. I guess it's all a matter of perspective...

As far as the iPad is concerned, I do not need a camera, or even a more powerful processor (yet...but that could change with new, more demanding apps). The only thing I could always use is more capacity.

Right now, I anticipate this ipad lasting me for a couple of years, and unless there is a SIGNIFICANT change in the new generation, I am sticking with this sweet little machine.

Samsung Tab has 260 pixels per inch and iPad has freaking 132 pixels per inch. Apple must put retina display on it, or I will not get another iPad until then. However, I don't think apple will change the display on iPad until iPad three. Apple can just upgrade ram, faster CPU, gyroscope and memory to sell millions of more iPads. Why not just save the retina display for iPad 3. The camera will be added and people will buy more iPads. Me? I don't care about camera. I am waiting until 2012 or 2013 to see whether it will be worthwhile to upgrade.

I suspect that the next tablet device I get will not be an iPad. While I'm happy with the iPad right now what I would want as an upgrade in a tablet device are things that apple is unlikely to add any time soon, such as a usb port, wacom pen support, file system, open ecosystem, etc.

Once a compeditor can deliver all of that, along with a smooth and intuitive tablet experience then I'll probably go that route. But the screen would need to be as big or bigger than the iPad.

I'd change to a new iPad if it had a higher screen resolution (sometimes text on eBooks or web pages could be a bit clearer).
Additionally, I own a 32GB Model which is okay but kind of a lower bound. So I'd change to 64GB, too. But ONLY along with higher screen resolution :)

If you had asked me within the first month of getting it, I would have said absolutely. Now, though, I find myself rarely using my iPad. I think I will probably only get a new iPad if the new one is significantly smaller and/or lighter.
I would love a 7'' iPad that has the same number of pixels as the 9.7'' model.

We have 2 now and I can't see a reason to upgrade. The camera doesn't interest me at all and thus far I'm able to do everything I want or need or should be able to after Nov. I would imagine the 3rd generation will be more interesting and likely needed.

I'm very happy with my Wifi model, and have Facetime on my iPhone and iPod, so they'd have to really make the 2nd generation appealing, probably by introducing some killer app that only runs on the 2nd gen, to get me to upgrade.

Honestly, my iPad has surpassed all my expectations and I use it all the time. It will take a lot to make me feel that this wonderful tablet is obsolete.

Why do people ask this stupid question? I don't know... is it worth it to you? If you a) want a front facing camera and/or b) want a faster processor and/or c) want the latest and greatest, yes- it's probably worth it.

This isn't rocket science.

hehe.

In other words the OP is asking should I, a stranger whom you know nothing about, get a product you and everyone else knows nothing about on a release date that is unknown.

I'm going to wait for the 3rd generation for my next iPad purchase. I'm betting the differences in technology and functionality will be great enough by then to justify the cost in two years.

It's hard to say without knowing what features the new one will have. For me though, I mostly use mine as an ereader. I wanted a kindle, then a nook, and i waiting long enough deciding that I've found the iPad meets those needs and more since both platforms have apps for it.

New features to make me upgrade would be matte screen and much better battery. Not that the current battery is bad but more than two days use would be nice. The iPad has replaced my net book for school for all tasks except programming assignments which i do at home anyway. At least that's how i justified the price. Having an always on computer has been very useful since net books take quite a while to boot up sometimes.

I'd be more excited for ios5 if they got some sort of centralized document storage system like the way it handles photos. Maybe widgets or at least a better notification system. Every ios revision they open it up just a tad more, not i think it is just a waiting game. It's a good chance the iPad will get a lot of future ios updates so no real reason to upgrade there.

On top of that, the Mayans, in their infinite wisdom, have informed us we won't be around after December 2012 anyway.

Considering the Mayans haven't been around for 600 years I think their December 2012 came and went already. :D

I'll possibly update next year, only because I want a WiFi + 3G model. Everything else would be gravy on top of 3G access.

Most definitely as log as they don't cut the screen size, ideally I would like to see a bigger screen but if they cut to 7" I won't be upgrading

9.7" screen or above and I will be buying

I didn't buy one, mainly because of the camera. I already have a 24" iMac, a 13" MBP, and a new iPhone. I would buy an iPad for my wife so that she can get off her HP desktop. We're grandparents and do a lot of skype, and an iPad would be a really nice tool for someone who is not really computer literate and is more of point and shoot LOL type person. She could surf the web, handle email, and do the menial tasks she does on a fixed position desktop... and not mess with my toys!!!

I think if v.2 has a wish list for potential buyers, the camera would be at the top of it. All the other stuff is nice too, but I think as well as it has done... they are missing a HUGE audience without a user-facing camera which every netbook, macbook, iMac, PC, and notebook has as standard equipment today. And now that the iPhone also has one, you know they understand. But it was a smart one-two intro. They got all the gadget freaks this year, and next year they will sell an equal amount as they expand the iPad's horizon.

My Wife currently has the iPad 16GB WiFi model, however I am waiting to see how 4.2 sits on the current model, if it works clean, then I may just upgrade my wife's and not buy the new one, however for me the 32GB model would be best.

Facetime, schmacetime. Meh. The iPad does what I need it to do very well. Though the wife would love my baby 3G, it would have to be one he'll of a upgrade for me to consider an upgrade.

Wouldn't sell mine early to get a new one, I use it too much. I use it for work, so it's a tool, not a toy.
