Fitness and health tracking. All the other stuff is bonus.
I'd buy a different tracker, but they are either more expensive, worse quality, worse accuracy, or google owned.

I got mine (Series 4) so I could go out running with music without bringing my massive iPhone 8 Plus. It's ideal for that but I've let myself down by not going running nearly enough in the two+ years I've owned it.

However, I use it every day for Apple Pay. It's so much easier than using my phone or my card or anything else. It's obviously not worth it just for that, but I like it a lot for that. Getting notifications at a glance, being able to see the weather and other basic info as well as the time, obviously, is useful too.

On balance it probably wasn't "worth" what I paid for it, but at the same time I wouldn't want to be without it. And I have actually been running a bit more this year which makes it feel like I'm getting more use out of it. The health tracking stuff is just a bonus for that.

- Health fitness tracking
- Read/answer texts
- Listening to music (when out running)
- Take calls on occasions when I leave the house without the phone
- Read notifications
- Apple Pay
- Grocery list when shopping (OurGroceries app)
- Check time
- Check weather
- Control homekit devices
- Control volume/skip tracks ect when listening to music from my phone
- Remote control apple tv
- Unlock mac
- Quick check news headlines
- Timers when cooking
- Check calendar appointments (and getting reminders)
- Prolonging my car parking (through a parking app)
- Check pollen levels at my current location (through an app)
- Occasionally use map app to find my way when on foot
- Ping my phone when I've forgotten where I put it

A lot of things in the list above is doable with the phone, but it's nice to not always having to whip out your phone, the watch is always at hand so to say.

Exercise is not just about weight loss, it’s also about cardiovascular health, and strength and conditioning. :)

Hello All,
I've had an Apple Watch since the launch of the original, since then I've moved to S3 and next month I plan to move again to a S6.
When people who aren't as up to speed with Apple and Technology in general ask me what I use it for I just reply with "It is a luxury convenience" - This is based around getting to see how warm it is outside or checking messages and receiving calls without having to get your phone out of your pocket.

But when I've been thinking about it - What really do I use my Apple Watch for and really... there's not that much
- Set a timer when cooking
- Track a workout
- View iMessages/WhatsApp messages
- Check the temperature outside
- Ping my iPhone when I can't find it on the sofa or in bed
- Oh and checking the time (Duh!)

Surely there's more to them than the above?
I don't tend to write messages on it as its too time consuming, My workout tracking is really inconsistent as I went for a 2 hour walk yesterday and my exercise ring logged it as 9 minutes or exercise. I don't tend to answer calls on it as it was really poor with S1 and not great on S3.

What does everyone else use their Apple Watches for?
Note: I don't have the cellular version - I don't want ANOTHER monthly cost :(
Totally fitness oriented. Track everything I do in the health app. I’m a fitness junkie.

* Control iTunes/Roku
* Some notifications
* Weather
* Timer
* Reminders/Siri
* Music

Primarily fitness tracking.

Got my first watch, the SE, in late November and it is first and foremost a personal fitness tracker that keeps me motivated to exercise every day and if that’s all it did it would be worth every penny and then some.

It also tells the time. Not to mention:
⁃ Sets timers
⁃ Checks the weather
⁃ Shows me messages
⁃ Shows me alerts
⁃ Let’s me know my phone is ringing
⁃ Let’s me know when my coffee has reached my desired temperature in my ember mug
⁃ Let’s me check my heart rate
⁃ Shazam’s songs for me

That’s kinda it for my usage. But while everything in that list is all well and good, the fitness tracking alone makes this device indispensable for me.

edit: shows me my upcoming calendar events, slack notifications, reminders... so quite a lot on top of the main feature for me it seems!
I totally forgot my morning alarm as a tap on the wrist, which is so much more humane than being jarred awake by a sound of any kind, and being able to unlock my MacBook Pro, and soon being able to unlock my phone with a mask on.

That alarm feature might seem small but is right up there as one of my faves. Only annoying thing is I have to remember to charge by watch before I go to sleep. Most nights it's not a problem, just take it off as soon as my rings are all closed, but in the off time it slips my mind it's a painful reminder of just how slow this thing is to charge -- I usually have 30-50% charge left at the end of the day and it still take a good 90+ minutes to charge most nights. Hopefully many happy years down the line when I'm ready for a replacement, fast charging will be standard on the watch.

Yeah, I forgot about the taptic alarm as well. I LOVE that feature. It just seems so much more effective at waking me up than a traditional alarm clock, and I somehow even feel more awake. My watch only ever goes on the charger in the morning soon as I get out of bed, and it charges while I take a shower and get ready for work.

I'd use the alarm but for some reason whenever I do, I subconciously know there's an alarm set and I often wake up just before it goes off (sometimes half an hour before) and I have to end up canceling it. Would be neat if the watch could sense I'm awake and cancel it on its own (like use whatever sensor it does when detecting a stand, for example)

Does the watch alarm have a sound option though? I tend to, in my half-awake after a deep sleep state, misinterpret a taptic nudge as one of my pets nibbling or licking my wrist, or never get up since subtle stuff like that doesn't awake me. I sleep like a dead person, so only a super loud or high pitched sound can get me up.

Sometimes, but not always, when I wake up before the alarm, the watch somehow senses it and says something like "it seems like you're awake, would you like to disable the alarm" and you can tap to disable it.

The watch alarm does play a chime in addition to the haptic vibrate. It starts low in volume for a bit and then ramps up a little, but never really gets to the point of "loud". It's the little tap-tap, tap-tap on your wrist which is what usually wakes me up. Feels nothing like anything any dog or cat I have ever owned has done to me.

Oh I wasn't aware it did that! I just defaulted to asking Siri to disable the alarm.

Apparently you've never had a cat 'bat' your arms with her paw. I once had a Maine Coon cat that loved doing that, or gently gnawing my hands. (they're nothing like normal cats--more like dogs in cat clothing)
