^^^^Sure, and in the past there was the Apricorn Velocity DUO X2. I had one of those. But I'd rather not use a PCI slot. Currently I have six M.2 SSDs in my PCI slots. Two on a Syba I/O Crest and four on a Highpoint 7103. I also have 2½" SSDs that I pulled out of my 5,1 when I sold it. With the J2i I could use them. Do I need to - Heck No! But, since I have them I'd like to use 'em. The J2i could be a cheap solution.

I replied to Promise Tech:

Hi Justin

Thanks for the response. But, in my mind you are letting an opportunity pass you by. The 2019 Mac Pro is still new, and already there is a market for a cage and cables, like the J2i. If you don't fill it, someone else will. I have already heard of folks using 3D printers to clone the the J2i cage.

I already have the J2i with two HDD installed in it. I also have four 2.5" SATA SSD units just collecting dust on my book shelf. I have placed two of them above each of the HDD in the J2i cage and can quickly open the MP7,1 case and switch the cabling from the HDDs to the 2.5" SSDs when I want to. The 2.5" SSDs fit nicely above each HDD, are very light and the cable connections hold them in place easily. I haven't needed to employ these 2.5" SSDs in this way so far, but the option is there if I ever need it. 👍

This is an old thread, but I will add BlackMagic Speed Test results for the Mac Pro 2019.

I like the R4i. It isn't louder than the J2i, about the same disk chatter. The Mac Pro has great cooling, so the fans doesn't spin faster, and stay almost silent 🥰

Do the drives in the upper J2i get noticeably heated up by the airflow from the CPU cooler?
How would one measure that?
Besides, I never considered it. The rear part of the chassis is open behind the disk cage.
With Apple 4TB SSD speed, there is no reason to use a slow spinning HD for anything else than storage.

I have a 1TB SATA SSD for gaming on windows 10, as well.

Yeah, but that's the MPX module, which benefits from effective airflow provided by the intake fans.
How are your SSD temperatures in the J2i? You could monitor them using tools like MacsFanControl or iStat Menus.
I'm considering ditching my OWC Accelsior S PCIe and switching to a 2-SATA drive bracket with connection to the internal SATA ports.

Hey can anyone help me find the software that came on the original j2i 8tb drive. I remember when I got it there was some software and a text file with the serial number. If anyone can help that would be great thank you

Why do you not start a new discussion concerning the Promise Pegasus J2i? Or just HDs in the Mac Pro that is not the specific and exclusive R4i, which is only supported by the Mac Pro 2019.

People searching for questions related to that, will not check this thread first. Right?
The J2i is also supported by the Mac Pro 2023
