I was forced to come up with a system a long time ago once I blew past 20 collective computers and devices. Network names for computers are my last name and a number (such as Youngren14). Drives also have a system (so I know which computer the drive is on) but since iPhones don't have separate network names and names for the internal storage the two are combined as far as names.I'd never really thought much about the choice of names for my iPhone. I'm talking the name Apple gives by default ("John's iPhone Xs") or that you modify to ones taste. But after downloading one of those Bluetooth finder apps, I am realizing just how public that name is, assuming Bluetooth is enabled which it likely is for many. I am not a privacy nut by any stretch, but it does have me considering de-personalizing it a bit.
So I'm curious, do you all use something very identifiable? Do you leave the default name, which can be very identifiable (usually includes a first name)? Do you anonymize at all?
YM12_iPH_128G is the name of my iPhone 6s+. That string tells me all I need to know.
(Y)oungren - my last name
(M)obile - Meaning a mobile device, cellphone, laptop, handheld device, etc
12 - the 12th device I gave a number to
(iPH)one - This identifies the type of device
128G - tells me the capacity of the device.
My only problem is I lose track of the device numbers because I've never written it down.
