How old are you? Seriously, that makes all the difference.

It is rather pointless giving you advice on that. You have to go to a shop and look at both of them, and check whether the high resolution is too small for you or not.

Mine stinks. Yes, I need to go to the eye doctor. So add $400+ to the price because i have 3 pairs of glasses (and no i can't wear contacts).

I saw one yesterday and no way could i work at it. Leopard's Independent Resolution will help greatly.

Oh gosh was that a HORRID experience at the Apple Store though.

All you guys that got them - you know you are SUPPOSED to hook it up to a TV right??? Seriously, the guy says after i told my Dad i couldn't work at it, "well, it's not made to work on, it's made for hooking up to your TV or screen like we have on the wall".

Um sure, THAT is what i'd drop $2800 on a laptop for.

I finally told him "this is like a bad CompUSA experience" and walked away.

Anyway, i'd suggest looking at them if you can - or do have marginal eye sight issues.

Go For It

I just got the 1920x1200 and I heartily recommend it.

When I'm at my desk, I hook it up to my Dell 2407, which makes an incredible extended desktop.

Hi all,

I am gonna get a new 17" MBP. I use it mainly for programming and the more pixels I have, the better for me. But isn't 1920x1200 too much for a 17" widescreen display? What do you recommend? 1680x1050 or 1920x1200?

Cheers,
Behi

Thanks for all the replies. One thing I should have noted is that I usually use my computer to write programs and compose web pages. Would the small size of fonts be a problem for a programmer? Unfortunately the last time I checked the local Apple Center here (Melbourne) it didn't have one of those 1920x1200s for preview. I have to check once again...

I am typing this on my new 17" 1920x1200 and I have to say that the screen is just wonderful. I really really love it. I recommand it for everybody. It is really very very sharp. Some text is small - but really sharp.

Could you post a few screenshots please? With open editors, garageband, etc?
