I don't want Apple as a company that throws s**** at the wall and see if it sticks, like, for example, Google.
If it sticks to the wall, that means that your customers like it. Possibly a good alternative to "focus groups".

Apple secretly decides what their customers will like, and then surprises everyone with an unveiling.

This has led to some spectacular failures:
  • The MP6,1 "TrashCan Pro" (it would have been a huge success as the new Mini Mac with Core CPUs and an optional second GPU, but as a replacement for the cheese grater an utter failure)
  • The butterfly keyboard (wow, what were they thinking)
  • The iMac Pro (not a bad system - even if way overpriced - but not something that could rinse out the bad taste that the MP6.1 left in many pros' mouths)
  • Many of the recently released MacBook Pros - especially the 2018 that may throttle back due to thermal issues and end up slower than the 2017. And the 2017, where your dongle bag may weigh more than the MacBook.
Jobs' "Henry Ford" anecdote has outlived whatever usefulness it may once have had. Cook&Company seem to be content with "faster horses", and then often failing at that.

One of Jobs' last big mistakes was to give Jony Ive autonomy. Cook should fire him.

Yeah, and probably is the world's most popular Xeon desktop.

Invalid, lots of people like it, in fact, I would say most people like it, the only people I see not liking it are the iHaters.

You did invalidate your point right there.

I call it BS, at most one SMC update away from Apple to fix it, many people are not reporting thermal throttling.

Just because YouTube divas (which sh__ on everything and anything made by Apple, that's what makes money, that's why they are there) complain, doesn't make it true.

Wow!

That's ridiculous.

The company that you criticize for not being conservative, you now criticize for making "faster horses".

That's plain ridiculous.

Projects that are just for show.

90% of their revenue comes from only one place.
Selling their customers…. is the prime source of Google revenue. Much like Facebook, the customer is the product.

That is innovative, I guess.

Also announcing things that are far from ready and always promising "it will be next year", like their self-driving car.

I'm convinced that Apple is now a giant social experiment designed to see how much abuse consumers will take.

I imagine the execs deciding what their next torture will be, like:

"Okay, we need a new sales gimmick. What shall we remove this time?"

"I know! Let's remove the charging port."

(execs look at each other in excitement)

"How will they charge the battery then?"

"Well, they'll have to buy one of our wireless charging docks."

"Jon, what a great idea! It'll match the missing headphone jack!"

"Hee hee, yeah, it'll rank right up there with using glass as a body for a phone!"

(execs rolling on the floor, laughing)

"Yeah, I still can't believe we got away with that nonsense! And other companies followed us, too! Ahhhh hahahaha!"

etc

It has also led to every success they've had.

This is curious. Before I got in to management at work, I thought they had all the time in the world. Now I know, it's not like that. Sure, there are some perks. Off hand, I spend about 3 hours a week just making sure paperwork is filled out properly and is right for internal audit. I spend maybe another 6 hours scheduling for the following week.

A lot of it is checking in on those reporting under me and those above me checking in with me.

If you think about what goes in to building a MacBook. They have to test various screens that maybe LG sent them with the current build of macOS. They also have to test various components and chipsets for the logic board since they can't just order an ASUS one from Newegg. Once they have it all tested, they design the logic board, order the parts, and get it manufactured. Jony's going around checking on his techs to make sure it's working right, and looks, eh, whatever for that. Tim's checking with Jony to see how they're doing.
