Thanks for the replies everyone. I've been thinking a lot about this, and now I realize that whenever I boot it up, on the gray apple screen, the screen seems to be 100% even. When photographed and you really examine the colors, maybe there are some discrepancies, but to me, most of the time it looks perfect. 5% of the time I might think that the bottom looks a touch darker, but that really depends on the viewing angle and the nature of what is being displayed on the screen. Right now, the white box I am typing in is pretty much just as white as the address bar at the top of the page. If what I have is the yellow issue, than this problem has been way blown out of proportion. I work at Future Shop, and all of the displays (laptops and desktops) have some sort of anomaly that is noticeable when examined...light leakage, dead pixels, etc. Fortunately, my mbp screen has neither of these two problems, and 95% of the time seems to be perfectly lit.

I still think my 24" iMac screen is much better, but I have yet to see a laptop screen that looks like the 24" iMac's screen! I thought my dell 700m's screen was good, this one blows it away (the mbp's).

As of recently there have been a lot of angry customers who claim their mbp screens have a yellowish tint, particularly in the bottom 1/3 portion of the display. I've only seen a few examples of what this looks like. There is also a thread that basically says that all mbp screens are messed up, in one way or another. When I got my mbp I didn't instantly notice a yellow hue...but now that I'm reading all of these threads, I'm starting to think my screen suffers from the same thing! Luckily I'm still in the window for a swap, so if it bothers me more I can change it. But look at the screen - am I just being paranoid? The screen does not have a yellow tint overall, but I'm starting to think maybe the bottom part of it does. Or it's just my imagination...

Either way, I find the mbp screen really bright, but I also find that my 24" iMac screen shows deeper colors that are more rich.

something IS wrong with your screen. dark overcast at the bottom 1/3. specially the right side.

my first two had the same problem. 3rd? unknown.

As I said before, if this is really the yellow issue that everyone has been talking about then it really sounds like a whole lot of trouble for a very small problem. I'd be willing to bet that the majority of new MBP screens exhibit this "defect," but it is simply too small for most people to notice. I really can't see what all the concern is about; I really am flabbergasted that some people have brewed up a veritable *****torm over such a minor thing. To each his own, I suppose, but with these levels of expectations (for new hardware, especially) I don't see how any computer could satisfy it.

when the machine boots up the gray apple screen seems to be 100% even, in my eyes. when you photograph it, things are a bit different...I still don't know if it's worth returning it. I showed it to my friend who's very good at finding mac defects (lol) and he didn't notice the yellow screen at all. Other people must be facing much more serious screen problems - if everyone had a screen like mine I doubt there'd me so many angry customers.

I had the same problem as you do. I'd check these "test" images.. so I started to see yellow... I have samsung lcd... so I was worried, but...
So I downloaded many Hires wallpapers (nature photos) and a tried to see any yellowish in them. All of them were so beautiful.. (even compared to a CRT monitor!!!)

So I decided to keep it... no problem since.

Anyway, I always have something on my screen and it never just plain grey, so I don't see any problem :)

FYI: i used this site to get many wallpapers to try: http://interfacelift.com

thanks. there are some really nice wallpapers on that site!!

Ok, interesting update. For the sake of it I put my old dell 700m side by side with the mbp to compare the screen. I always considered my dell screen to be stunning and perfect...and is there ever a difference. Defective or not, the mbp screen outshines the dell by miles and miles. in fact, it's so bright that my green background cast a green glow on the keyboard!

Sorry to say it but you definitely have the yellowing problem that everyone is talking about. I would take it back and get a replacement.
Only thing I could see was that it didn't looked evenly lit, but no screens are perfect in that regard.
