Thanks
Yay! Finally a thread showing some real love for appletv!
I really like mine / don't care about surround sound or hd. I don't keep any media on it so don't waste any time syncing- just stream away.
Yay apple!
I thought it was a good idea to get feedback from people who actually own the Apple TV. I've sat on both sides of the fence but having purchased the Apple TV I'm now sold.
I'm embarrassed to say I was one of the doubters of the product until I saw it being used at a colleague's store. Like many potential buyers I just saw it as a fad or toy. As an Apple Reseller, I still find it really hard to convince buyers why they should buy one. It's not until I show people what it does, they see how cool the product is. One of the features that many people aren't even aware of is the ability to show their digital photos on the big screen. We often have family "slide show" nights with our Apple TV.
If Apple can bring the price down to $199 and add a hand-full (and it's only a few) of the features that current owners want, the Apple TV could easily have the same success as the iPod. Remember the iPod wasn't an overnight success!
Yes the Apple TV has some missing features, but I think for a first edition product, it's a very good starting point. My fear is that the lack of sales will cause Apple to drop the product instead of intensifying their efforts on a second revision.
I think history will look back at the Apple TV as a product that was a bit ahead of it's time.
Edit: Reading the submitted posts has confirmed my suspicions that using and owning the Apple TV is the best way to see what a cool product it is. I think Apple's PR team has failed to do this for the Apple TV,
