I’ve never had more than a 128GB iPad, and while my next will probably be a 256, I can’t fathom how you would fill 2TB on one of these things. I do some drawing and photo editing. What do you use the space for?

I've got the 1TB model.

  • 150GB Japanese manga (favorites + reading list)
  • 150GB American comics (favorites + reading list)
  • 400GB videos (Netflix, Disney+, HBO, iTunes)
  • 50GB miscellaneous (apps, ebooks, photo library, etc)

Admittedly, I haven't downloaded my fave manga/comics to the iPad yet. There's only like 30GB worth right now as I've just been downloading on an as-needed basis. I probably have maybe 2TB+ total manga/comics on Kindle, Nook, Kobo and Comixology combined so 300GB is just a fraction of the collection.

I'll be sure to load up the iPad before going on vacation to the Philippines. Internet in the provinces can be very iffy.

Interesting. But, I’m so curious... What do you use the second one (from your signature) for?

How do you get it all on the iPad quickly or the quickest ?

Lol, which one?

I usually swap iPads when battery drops to 30-40% since I hate having a cable dangling from the device while in use.

Also, I tend to choose iPads based on content/task.

  • mini: webcomics, gaming, basically my big iPhone, primarily used in portrait
  • Air / Pro 11: manga/manhwa and ebooks in 2-column landscape, preferred for web browsing and videos while lounging, primarily used in landscape
  • Pro 12.9: American and European comics, annotating PDFs, split view, light productivity and docked use

I'll read manga on the 12.9 and US comics on the 11 in a pinch. It's just not my preferred way of doing it.

No such thing as quick. These are purchased/licensed content with DRM so speed is limited by my internet connection (sadly just 200 Mbps). That's mainly why I haven't re-downloaded my manga/comics yet.

iTunes videos are fairly hassle free since it continues downloading in the background even when the device is locked.

Unfortunately, for non-Apple apps, they stop downloading after a while if you put them in the background so those, I need to keep monitoring.

Thanks. That sucks :(

To bad it can't be where you just copy and paste it over. Sadly I know not possible.

Some are.

For example, the DRM-free comics I get from Humble Bundle, I can just copy/paste from SSD (Samsung T7) to iPad. That's a very small fraction of my collection though.

I have some un-DRM'd Blu-ray rips I made myself. Copying those are quick, too, but I prefer just watching directly from the thumb drive to save local storage on the iPad.

I didn't think of it like that.

Your right!

Currently have the 2TB/Cell 12.9 iPP. I’ve always maxed my storage on my devices bc I like having immediate access to my files and not be dependent on data coverage since I travel. Had the 32gb 3GS, 64gb 5S, 128gb 6S Plus, 256gb 8 Plus, and now a 512gb 11 Pro Max, that I won’t be upgrading until something truly innovative is introduced. I also had the 128gb iPad Air/Cell model back when that was the 1st iOS device to breach $1000 after taxes back in 2013. Moved on to 512gb ipad Pro 10.5/cell. Now rocking a 2tb/cell M1 12.9 iPad Pro. I also have an 256gb/cell M1 11in iPad Pro that I got at a crazy deal one month after release - June of 2021 for ($399.00) - so I had to pick it up. That’s what I’m using to type this message…lol.
I edit videos and keep all my games, notes and books from uni on my iPads. Mind you I graduated decades ago but use my books as reference material. I also keep many hours of lectures on hand from uni that were transcoded as well as multiple Master Class videos locally. I try and support game developers so I purchase all serious attempts to bring pc and/or console games to this platform to encourage a shift away from the candy crush type games. I have Divinity Original Sin 2, Alien: Isolation, Wreckfest, Grid AutoSport, F1 2016 (no longer available), Talos Principle, (Annapurna games - Journey, Flower, Swan..etc), Castlevania SotN, Dead Effect 2 (no longer available), OG Tomb Raider 1&2 (no longer available), Ark Survival, OG Baldur’s gate, GTA 3, VICE CITY, San Andreas, Max Payne, Crazy Taxi, XCOM, Deus Ex: The Fall (no longer available), Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath, Oddworld: New n Tasty, Oddworld: Munich’s Odyssey, Unruly Heroes, République, KOTOR 1 & 2, Battle Chasers: NightWar, Godfire (no longer available), Oddmar, and Forgotten Memories. There are so many more but my point is I use a lot of storage and don’t like the anxiety of gigabyte watching…tiring. Also I think we need to support our developers so more would bring their AAA titles to this platform. Notice the ones that are no longer available, I believe, they didn’t perform well. Steve Jobs got us used to cheap apps but super expensive hardware. I think if we make this platform a viable revenue source for developers then more pro apps and AAA games would find their way here. I know I went off the rails (off topic) but I think it’s a vital talk that needs addressing.

Video. I got tired of managing storage every time I was getting ready to travel and wanted to download a bunch of movies to take with me.

The downside is with that much storage there's very little motivation to clean up Files so I have a ton of PDFs I've downloaded when researching things that aren't named sensibly and will probably never be opened again.

Definitely for video content. My movie collection that I ripped with Handbrake and other apps is hundreds of GBs. Tiny compared to others. In addition I have a large suite of home videos and downloaded YouTube videos that I keep locally on the device (no adult content, sorry) which adds up to another few hundred GB.

The size of my photo library is also notable, but nowhere near as large. I keep it fairly minimal in terms of what I sync to the device. Random shots are unnecessary. Only the best. I keep a decent bit of music on the iPad as well, my library is 1TB so again only the best. I also have downloaded large sections of North America locally via Google Maps since I don't have a cellular iPad and I like to view maps at a larger size. I could tether it, but no need. Not massive in size, but it all adds up.

I got the 2TB model. Though I wasn’t actually seeking out the 2TB model, Costco was blowing them out for 1/2 price and couldn’t pass it up. I record a lot of local music shows and the 2 TB provides peace of mind mostly. I don’t have to edit them the next day to free up space.
I used to own the 256 and I found that due to iOS architecture, a lot of remnant junk files would slowly accumulate that wasn't easy to delete. The “other” in your iPad storage readout, if you will. This compounds greatly with long three hour 4K videos.
So the 2TB gives me the breathing room to never have to think about it. Anything I throw at the iPad, it stores and I no longer have to start calculating file sizes and offloading apps and redownloading them to get rid of the junk files.
The larger capacity iPads also have 2X the memory (16GB) so that’s a nice benefit.

They *really* need a way to allow apps to offload their cached files. Some do, but others don't, then you discover Discord or similar is using gigs for junk that shouldn't be cached.

I constantly delete and re install Twitter and Discord for this reason on my phone. I think they might only purge their cache if they are told by iOS you’re almost out of storage? But like how does it need to cache 5GB of data?? It pisses me off even though I have like 70GB free on my phone.

I have 256gb, but wish I'd bought more. I do a lot of video editing, and while Lumafusion does support external drive editing, it isn't as reliable. Also, it would be nice sometimes to not have any dongles hanging from the iPad during editing sessions.
