I'm using postbox, i'm finding it to be a better email client the mail.app.

Just added the symbolic link to the folders where the mail is actually stored by Mail.app.

under /Users/xxx/home, I did:
ln -s /Users/xxx/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/ mail

That's it. Now I have all my mail in a place where it automatically gets backed-up by just copy the subdirectory "home", which is where I plan to store all my stuff.

I kind a hate mail and just use browser:)

Why Mail is bad for me? I have Gmail with over 2 GB of stuff on it AND I DO NOT WANT TO STORE THIS ON HDD, everytime I try to connect my gmail through MAIL app it just keeps on downloading everything to my HDD and I hate that because it takes ages. I want it to be like Android gmail app that shows what you have but not downloading any msg unless you tell it to.

+1 I feel exactly the same way about this too. The first time I tried the mail app on the mac it downloaded everything to the computer and I did not want that at all. Had tons of dirty pics I get from the guys at work and I didn't want that on the home computer just laying around on the HDD.

You could've told Mail.app not to download attachments or even any mail other than what's in the inbox if you had looked in the preferences. Personally, I hate gmail's web interface.

Any way to get rid of 2GB of gmail?

I'm in the same boat. I want to continue to use Mail for my Gmail, but I don't need the 2GB of Gmail on my HDD. Should I just change the preferences and then delete all the other stored stuff manually?

Also, I have a 15" MBP with the hi-res display, and the character display in Mail is absolutely miscroscopic. Is there any way to globally change this so I can type in read in a reasonably-sized font?

Thanks.

Go to Mail -> Preferences -> Fonts & Colors, and you can change all the fonts there. You'd have to change each type of font separately.

Mail font

But isn't that for the mail that's actually sent and received? Or is it for the viewing on the screen?

For example, it's SAYS that it's a 12-point font, so I assume that's what's being SENT. But it's truly microscopic on the screen.

I didn't think about that. I am not sure which fonts get affected.

This is less of an issue for me as I primarily use gmail on the web. Mail is just for some really old messages.

I used Mail app with AOL account, put I can't find the way to subscribe to folders...

I haven't try with Gmail account either (I don't know if that works).

Finally I use Thunderbird for my main mail usage and Mail for AOL second account (mainly receiving mail) both using IMAP4 I think is the best.
