1) MBP 17" (2.16GHz of course), 2GB RAM, 7200RPM 100GB HD, matte screen. It sits on a small raised wire "table" that fits over my lap to allow cooling and take the weight off of my legs. Parallels installed for WinXP. Networking via an Airport Extreme Base Station hooked to DSL and my tower, which also acts as a server.
2) what type of computing do you do?
Broadly, web development, tech support, telecommuting, programming, and fun.
Specifically: As I'm mostly bedridden, everything: Surfing (for fun and profit), e-mail, telecommuting to troubleshoot computers at work via VNC and occasionally SSH, server admin stuff using Apple's Server tools, writing documentation, doing LabVIEW programming in Windows via Parallels for control systems, web development, light for-the-web graphics editing/compression, some creative writing, and I also watch the occasional DVD
3) what do like about it?
It's more or less as fast as my G5 tower and the screen has the same resolution as my 20" ACD, so I basically feel like I'm at my desktop even though I'm in bed. It's allowed me to do everything I usually do without having to get up, plus added a full-speed Windows Virtual Machine to make LabVIEW programming much easier (I've done it in VPC, but that's not fun)--ordinarily, I'd do the programing on a hardware PC at work, but no longer necessary.
4) what don't you like about it?
So far, really nothing. It's huge, but that comes with the terriotory and I didn't buy it to be portable, just somewhat mobile. I suppose it can get a little toasty under heavy load, but it doesn't bother me.
