What do you use your PPC Mac for?

I'm writing an article about what PPC Mac's CAN do, and I'm running short on ideas, I have only used mine for light web browsing and as a secondary computer, what do you guys use your PPC Mac's for?

Before my ibook hard drive died, everything. Right now I'm using my iMac G4 lol

I miss my ibook G4... I did everything, everything... I mean even work and web dev app/projects... Now I'm back to Windows 7 and it feels odd...

The only things that I like about the switch back to Windows is:

-720p/1080p (I only have one 1080p video... and it is a maroon 5 video :cool:)

-Halo

Wow... now that I think of, those are the only differences between my ibook G4 and my windows desktop...

I do web browsing, video/photo editing, nostalgic gaming, and music. I do this on a tibook, I'm sure a G5 user does plenty more interesting things though.

1.8Ghz PowerMac G5 (Work Mac):
- Web browsing
- Email

- Design and layout (Newspaper ads, flyers, marketing materials)
- Scanning
- PDF editing (Acrobat, Pitstop Pro and Quite A Box of Tricks)
- PDF creation (ad proofs mainly)
- Legal and Classifieds layout
- Composition (Newspaper pages)
- Pagination (Newspaper pages)
- FTP

450mhz PowerPC G4 (Work Mac)
- Same functions as G5 above, same apps, same OS version

400mhz PowerPC G4 (Work Mac)
- Applescript server
• process editorial photos
• file new email attachments by date
• copy new editorial pages to composing server
• file ad proofs by date
- Upload legal ads to ANA (Arizona Newspaper Association) website
 
I use a PB12 as an integral part of a business. It runs a major statistics package, downloads data all day long and crunches it, putting results to a web server so customers can get information. 24 hours a day, uptime 440 days since reboot. I sometimes VNC remote manage it.

Pretty good little machine. Makes me money.
 
I still use a 1.42Ghz PPC Mac Mini as my home media server.

It is connected to my TV via an ATV2 which runs XBMC.

It has a 1TB USB external drive to store media and the OS is 10.5.8.

Solid as a rock. :D
 
PowerMac G5 Quad 2.5:

Primary work machine. Anything to do with regular work, plus encoding, compression, drive formatting and troubleshooting, Remote Desktop administration, network administration, diagnostics, a little gaming, and occasionally running XP for that odd thing that needs XP instead of Win7 on my MacBook Pro. Runs Leopard most of the time, but I have it set up to dual-boot to Tiger off the Constellation when needed.


PowerBook G4 Titanium 1 GHz:

Writing (that keyboard is the BEST), e-mail, web browsing, running OS9 native games and applications (the last, fastest PowerBook to still be able to boot into OS9), alternates with my MacBook Pro for watching DVDs before bed.


MacBook Pro 2.6 GHz 15" (Early 2008):

Oh wait, no Intels in here!


PowerBook G3 Wallstreet 292 MHz
PowerMac G4 Digital Audio 733 (upgraded to Dual 1.8 GHz 7448s + GeForce 4 Ti4600 128MB)
Mac mini 1.5 GHz
SuperMac S900/250:

Not much these days other than making up my one-man Apple museum.

I've got my iBook G3 plugged into a 17" CRT monitor at work, running Marine Aquarium 2.6, 24 hours a day. It has to run at 800x600 to scrape by with 34fps but the CRT smoothes it out a bit, I've extended the image beyond the big black borders so it almost looks real. And because there's an SSD inside it, the iBook is completely silent. I'll post a picture tomorrow.
 
I use my G5 for software development. Mainly for testing compatibility of my projects on big endian architectures. So, software development.
 
At work we have quad g5s that we use for heavy Video editing for TV they are still very professional machines with the right software and in the right hands

Same here, are company still uses g5 quad's for video editing, with Media 100 edit software. They have been flawless for the last 6 years. :)
 
iMac G5: Second desktop, so most everything that I use my primary desktop for. It's normally used when my primary desktop is tied up doing other things (encoding video, playing games, etc.) and I need to look things up or feel alarmingly productive. It has FW400 ports on it, so I use it with my old camcorder and smash together little videos on it.
 
Mac Mini G4 1.42 GHz: Light web browsing, emulation, text & photo editing.

PowerBook G4 867 MHz: Web browsing, photo editing, sprite creation, video chatting, audio recording, audio editing, & music composition.

Lime iBook 366 MHz: Light web browsing & IRC.

PowerBook 520c: Word processing, AppleScript stuff & 68k gaming.
 
I'm using my iMac G5 for playing SimCity 4 which won't run on any of my Intel-based Macs. ;)

Video Conference
Teaching

I use my iMac G3 Slot-loader as a 'jukebox'. I loaded a 40GB hard drive in it and (slowly and painfully) transferred my 715 songs (actually I think it was around 850 songs) from my from my old Certified Data (Which I fried, by the way, all by complete accident) to that iMac via 2GB USB thumb drive. I also use AppleWorks 6 to type out some school documents on occasion. I also use MacRumors on it as well, since it strangely doesn't give me the spinning pinwheel for 2 hours. This iMac has a 350MHz PPC G3, 384MB of RAM and the 40GB hard drive with Mac OS X 10.2.8. Apparently a bad version of OS X, but it's all I've got.

I use my PowerMac G4 for some web browsing, the odd iMovie work here and there and I use it to play with GarageBand quite frequently. My PowerMac G4 also has all of my 715 songs as well for easy access to create my versions of some songs that I like. I also like to turn it on just to charge either of my iPods when I have my laptop running on battery. This PowerMac G4 has two 1.25GHz PPC G4s, maxed out at 2GB of RAM and a 120GB hard drive with Mac OS X 10.4.11.

My G4 notebook is used as a netbook. Great for word processing and taking notes in class.

The G5 tower that I acquired when my uncle moved last year is sitting pretty as a large paper weight making sure the floor beneath it doesn't go anywhere. :p But seriously, I am just waiting for both the time and money to either rebuild the entire machine or gut it and use the chassis for a gaming rig.
