Does that mean if Connectix utilise MacDX, then they could offload all graphics intensive operations to the graphics card, and therefore leaving the processor free for other calculations?

Wow - now THAT would really give VPC a BIG speed boost...

(Maybe then we can play decent games....)

:D

What VPC needs is to be able to use the 3D capabilities of the Mac Graphics Cards so 3D games can be played in Windows. VPC used to have support for Voodoo 1/2 cards so 3D games could be played in windows at almost the same speed as on the PC. It would basically be like QE for VPC where the graphics are off-loaded from the cpu to the graphics card.

iChat v2.0 that doesnt have away buddies listed as idle, bad transferring of files, and doesn't log out at random, faster boot times, and function key mapping to ANY folder or app from the finder like OS 9, maybe a allow modifer key to make it from any application, and less beachballs.

I'd like to see no more kernal panics. The kernal should keep a backup of itself in case it panics, and load the backup whenever necessary. I'd like to see video and audio chat compatible with Yahoo. I'd like to see iChat compatible with Yahoo and AOL chatrooms, and the ability to take offline messages from both systems. I'd like to see Powerprint parallel ported to Mac OS X. I'd like to see System Preferences to do the daily, weekly, and monthly logfile cleanups like Macjanitor, as well as a prebinding preference, or even a keystroke that does both at startup. I'd like to see Energy Saver have no waking problems. I'd like to see Classic come to parity with features and hardware support of booting into 9.2. I'd like to see built-in surround sound DTS support in the DVD player. iTunes should have an MP3 record option like Soundjam did. I'd like to see gimp-print and linux-printing drivers pre-installed. I'd like to see all this for the price of $10 for people who upgrade from 10.2 (but I know it will be $129.99 no matter how hard I plead). It should have full Microsoft Java support in Safari as well as DirectX support so there is no webpage that I need emulation to use. I'd like to see 800 kbyte floppies supported through USB floppy drives and built-in floppy drives (right now only 1.4 MB floppies are supported). I'd like to see CD burning be done to RAM cache like Toast, instead of occupying hard disk space for cache. I'd like to see variable bitrate MP2 encoding in iDVD 4 to allow 6 hours of video to fit on a single DVD, so people don't have to purchase DVD studio Pro to do this.
Exchange client for Mac OS X.
Easy import of Outlook addressbook.
Safari bookmarks should be an HTML file, not an XML file that is hard to edit.
Oh and visit http://www.apple.com/macosx/feedback if you agree with any of these suggestions and offer them.

I have the same one. It is pretty slow. :(

Did you get yours free? I got mine free after rebates from ClubMac.

Yeah I got my new(ish) iMac from them they bundled it with this POS printer.

I can't believe they didn't even test 'fast' or 'quality' sheech, they spent 2 seconds making this driver work poorly.

Bad Code: Check
Lazyness: Check
Not able to print files with messed up error messages: Check
When you hit fast and it says there is no printer connected: Check

Perfect otherwise

There are alternative printer drivers for Mac OS X, and sometimes more up-to-date drivers than what shipped. Check http://www.macmaps.com/printersx.html for more up to date drivers.

What i want? iChat to support .net passport, as let's face it - messenger for OS X is shiite. Some people i've spoken to are saying it will work with passport, others say otherwise.

Also, digital zoom in DVD Player would be cool too - i'm not rich enough to have a widescreen monitor and the 2.35:1 dvd's are just as good at 16:9, and 16:9 > 4:3. Someone told me this was already do-able, i couldn't find the damn option!

I do love my dock, but i say bring back the drop-down list of running apps in the top right like previous Mac OSs!

I'd like to see the Dock have more functions when you right click an application, like iTunes does. To be able to control more things down there would be nice. Also with the dock, I'd like it to show every window that is open in an application in a dock that floats above the regular dock when the mouse rolls over that application. So if I am in a web browser, and I want to go to a different window I have open, I dont have to use the window menu, I can hover over the dock, have the windows "Grow" out of it and I can select the window I want.

Id also like to see iTunes use less processor. If MP3s can be played on a pentium 166 I think any modern computer can play them without taking over the mp3 app and give beach balls.

I know its not an OS fixable issue, but Id also like to see better audio hardware, that not only supports surround, but have the OS offload mp3 decoding etc to the sound chip a la quartz extreme. That would free up the processor for more productive tasks, so playing an mp3 in the background doesn't slow down the system. And while im on the subject, how about more sub processors that divy out data to many little specialized chips. Or have the dual CPUs have their own FSB instead of sharing a non DDR bus.

Trash iChat, and replace it with Adium with file transfer/sharing. Bingo, hands down, best chatting on the planet.

Also, lemme turn off all this eye candy transparency/throbbing/dropshadow madness. Please. I need to wring as much power as I can out of these ol' G4 chips. Although I won't care once the 970s are out anyway. And with quartz extreme... well... I guess its okay.

Let's see what else.. better list view. The list view in 9 looks a lot more orderly with its rows and columns that this plain white stuff.

User-creatable themes would be nifty.. but eh.

Improve Coreaudio/Coremidi. I donno how, just do it. Find some problems and get fixing.

What else... let's see... how about like a preferences option or something for like POWER FINDER which lets you use the finder like OS 9. No more telling me I don't have permissions to move stuff. I said move damnit!!

How about a Notepad revival? I loved that app, and all the 3rd party ones for X have "features" and other stuff. Who wants that. I want flippy action and typey action.

Uhh... animated icons? :) Or do we already have that. *ponders*

A less stupid open/save dialog? Damn that thing is annoying. Think about it. It's annoying, isn't it?

Maybe have the Applications and Documents folders not be such nazis?

Uh... amazing new audio/midi internal routing stuff.

White or brushed metal, make up your mind. I say pinstripe everything. I love pinstripes! The brushed metal looks tacky though. Especially iChat, which is like Tacky central, in about a billion ways.

Basically, kill the brushed metal. The software tries to look like metal, while their hardware tries to look like white plastic. It makes no sense. Also, the iApps have brushed metal, but the iPod and iMac are white. However, the pro apps don't have brushed metal, yet the Powerbook does. SCARY, no?

FIX THE BRUSHED METAL INSANITY!

I donno, it's late. Just fix stuff and give me a few new features that are actually usable, like full spring loaded folders that allow the "click an a half" like OS 9 had. Although I guess its not needed with this new one window finder stuff.

I just don't like dropshadows. They make things feel cluttered. Ick. Turn em off!

What's the shareware app that does this? Ah I'll go check version tracker.

I almost forgot, Make iChat compatible with other chat clients, like msn etc.

Or just make the stupid away messages viewble from anything other than iChat. Also make long away messages text wrap so I can read the whole thing without Im'ing someone. Make away people's messages still show up when they are idle. Basically everything about away messages doesn't work well. And make it automatically reconnect if it gets disconnected.

I think Apple should concentrate a bit more on the column view, because it's still too unfinished.

1- If the damn beach ball/lollipop has been spinning for 2 minutes. Make the OS smart enough to KILL whatever the hell is making it spin!
2- File naming and highlighting like OS9.
3- File/folder encryption.
4- Brushed steel OR white plastic look. Not both.

DVD & audio stuff

I would like to see a more sophisticated DVD Player application. Currently under OS X DVD Player will not allow me to play a movie in my second display and does not have good audio playback (sounds too loud and too low).

A simple audio recording application would also be welcomed. So far there is no way to do audio recording without a 3rd party application.

iChat should be adopted for file trading and game playing, like a fusion of Napster with GameRanger.

Finally I would like to see a, update for iTunes that would support MP4 ripping & playback. DVD ripping should also be supported but then it would not be iTunes any more.

The whole audio thing is a current hole in the iApp group of apps. There definitely needs to be an iSound or iAudio or something.

It is not legal to rip DVDs of any kind unless you are the creator or have specific permission from the creator. The kid that originally cracked the DVD code ended up being sued. It turns out it is actually legal to break the code and rip a DVD. It is illegal to share the knowledge of how you did and even the knowledge that you did period.

About copyright laws

Illegal or not I do not think there is any difference between ripping audio CDs and ripping DVDs. When Apple gives us the tools to do one it makes sense to give us the tools to do the other. We pay for the hardware, the content and the blank media so why should we not have the right to do what we like with the music and movies we own?

General speed improvements to finder and other apps, especially iCal.

File encryption would be handy too.

and I would like Virtual PC 95 to run in classic (probably not possible, I know)

one more thing: the ability to set a scheduled startup and shutdown, like I could with OS9 Energy Saver control panel.

The difference is that DVDs have a form of encryption on them and CDs don't. This is like a fence with a sign on it saying Trespassers will be Prosecuted. It is illegal to distribute the code to crack DVD encryption period.

I'm not trying to be hard nose I'm just explaining that there is no way that Apple can provide a DVD ripper as they are totally illegal.
