Heh heh after reading the hilarious "girlfriend permission thread" I figured I'd ask you all.

Whenever I have brought up looking forward to the iPad launch, my girlfriend rolls her eyes and calls me a geek "you and your gadgets" :p

What is your experience?

My girlfriend is the same way, and has been making fun of me for wanting the ipad since it was announced. She also is very anti-Apple, and prefers her big, bulky windows laptop. YET, since I've been telling her about the features of the ipad, I can see she is slowly coming around to it and I know she will want to play with it the minute I bring it home.

I think alot of people will be converted when they start using an ipad and see how easy it is compared to a laptop.

Pretty much the same here. My wife sees no need for it. I used the angle of "I'm a software developer so I need it for work" to convince her to give in. I predict that once she sees how it works in person, she's going to want one.

My wife has said distinctly that she thinks it's a useless device. Basically, when I said I was buying one I got... whatever. It's not that she's anti-Apple, she has an iPhone and I whipped her up a Hackintosh netbook. She just doesn't see any worth to it.

my wife normally is against me buying more expensive electronics but she was actually ok with this purchase. I didnt have to get into any silly arguments or anything lol

I said "Do you want me to get you an iPad, Honey?". She said "Wait for the 2nd version. It should have more bells and whistles!".

I personally don't see the need for either a bell or a whistle on an iPad, but wait we will. ;)

Nothing to report.

Within reason the wife and I buy what we want.
She loves her iPhone 3GS and MacBook Pro.

Yeah I said that to my wife the other day. She said something funny to me too. She was like every time something new is coming out or comes out. I feel like I am at one of those time sharing spiels. Cause I show her videos and stuff on it and try to sell her on it. LOL. I always get my way in the end cause she doesn't understand the techno mumbo jumbo anyhow. LOL.

my boyfriend thinks im crazy. he doesnt quite understand the obsession i have. even though he uses my ibook all the time he still doesnt like macs. he will be out of town this weekend and im pretty sure hes stoked on not having to go with me to the apple store or listen to me ramble on about how cool my new ipad is.

There was your mistake. You should have given her a free toaster with purchase. THEN it would have been like a timeshare spiel.

My wife LOVES gadgets! She loves her touch and Storm2. she loves her netbook. But, she wants no part of an ipad, for essentially the same reasons I've stated many times over myself on this forum.

My wife has no idea I'm even buying one.

We both have careers and earn our own money. She buys what she wants, I buy what I want.

Giggity!

Well since I am the wife here, and the tech lover, my husband thinks I am a little crazy. I did get him to switch to an iPhone and he loves it. So we are now going to be a 2 iPhone, 4 iPod Touch (for our kids) and 2 iPad family - the iPads are a 16g one for my daughter and a 3G one for me.

lol agreed.....my wife knows that even if it puts me in the doghouse with her for awhile....if i want something, im gonna buy it

The day it debuted, my wife told me I didn't need it, and not to get one.

I told her last Sunday night I had pre-ordered one and it was arriving Saturday.

As the saying goes, 'easier to ask forgiveness than permission.'

i told my 10 year old son I would be happy to get him one, but he said he didn't want one. That was until last night, when he and I were watching a couple of the guided tour videos on Apple's site. Now he says he wants one, but he wants to earn it and pay with his own money.

Some gadgets pend on spousal-approval, others don't. The iPad fell in the latter category: "Think what you want, I'm getting it." He thought about getting it, but ended up griping for awhile on not seeing that this new category of device was really necessary, but I talked about using it while sitting on the couch & watching tv, etc etc and he knew it was a lost cause and didn't say any more.

He's seen me browsing iPad-related articles, blog posts ad infinitum lately, and I wonder if he's snuck a few glances at the Apple videos while I wasn't around because he now has hinted he may be 'coming around' on the iPad. I suspect after seeing mine he'll be ordering one 10 minutes afterwards.

Same thing. She thinks of the iPad as a big iPhone and thinks I am dumb for buying one. So I told her good I don't want to ever see her touch it at all. She also thinks gaming is dumb and gets mad when I play XBOX.

I told my wife I wanted one and she gave me the same "You Dont Need One!" but I preordered it anyway, now she reminds me everyday that I could have used the money from the iPad for a termite contract on the house! Women!

But I got you a Kindle..>Don't you love me anymore?<

My wife got me a Kindle for Christmas...and while I DO love it and use it. I had to bite back a "...but Honey..Apple's coming out with their e-reader!!.." She knows I am getting one on Saturday and while she shakes her head and does the 'boys with toys' comment..I know she'll be shoulder surfing the minute I open the box. She'll be wanting to trade in BOTH of our Kindles so she can have one for her schoolwork...just you wait ;)

Husband and I are both into tech but I am more into gadgets and entertainment devices.

Told him I was getting one (probably about 10 minutes after the $499 price point was announced). Asked if he wanted one for his birthday; he said he'd wait and see how mine was. He does think I'm mildly nuts. We'll see who's nuts when the World of Warcraft Cataclysm expansion gets a little closer.

Gah!
My wife wanted some cuddle time last night...and I reminded her gently "OMG..The new Modern Warfare 2 maps are out!! I have to log on with my clan for some Hardcore Team Deathmatch!"

I had to sleep on the couch...

Hhaha..not...but it was fun saying that (course she can't hear me say it either) :D

she thinks that i am nuts that i have to have one at launch. she also thinks its a waste of money. that being said, I know she is going to most likely be begging to use it when she realizes what it really is and does :p
