This thread is fun to read, I can't wait till I get married. My folks are both getting an iPad, mums is a 64GB WiFi, dad and I will likely get 64GB w/ 3G.
I haven't told my husband I ordered one. We each have our own money, but he'll still complain that I could have spent it on something useful and practical, and that it's a waste of money. My husband's a luddite, he's cheap and just doesn't get it at all.
My wife woke me up early on the pre-order day so I'd go online and get us signed up for ours. We ordered two 32GB wifi models. She also uses an iPhone, a Macbook Pro, and a Mac Pro at home. She has her own Apple computers. She's completely transferred over to our side.
I was set on getting one from the moment I saw the keynote. My partner, with much good-natured ribbing, put in a preorder for the 3G the first week preorders were available. However, he insisted that *he* was quite satisfied with his Acer netbook. Then the netbook died -- fortunately, right before the preorder/reservation was cut off. We reserved an WiFi model in the evening, and woke up the next morning to find Apple was taking no more reservations! So it seems we will be fighting over the WiFi until the 3G gets here. And then, we might have a scuffle over who gets the 3G.
