I don’t see any upside for them to not disclose that info. They know a tear down will happen and we will all know eventually. So why not just tell us from the start?!

Yeah never understood them not disclosing the RAM.

It's not going to take people long to find out, and to prove my point, it has already been found out for the 12 series.

Out of the tens or even 100s million customers, how many do you think even care how much RAM is in the iPhone? The same reason Apple does not advertise GHz speed of the A series CPU in their iPhones.

They put a tech specs page. That is a tech spec!

They never disclose RAM. I would guess it's because you've got Android phones with 12-16gb now so, in theory, a 4gb flagship sounds lacklustre, of course, IOS and Android work differently. I think apple should display both the ram and battery sizes on their technical pages 100%.

True, but they are Apple. Their bank account means they don’t have to feel lackluster about anything. Lol

The majority of Apple customers don't care what RAM it has, and aren't "tech enthusiasts". As long as it works, that's all that matters. They disclose it on their Mac products, so it's not done to hide anything, just they don't need to rely on big RAM specs to give a good experience to the consumer.

The ones that do care, can deep dive online and find out the information easily enough. But confusing non-tech savvy people has never been how Apple operate, including in-store.

What does Apple have to gain by disclosing it?

They have a tech spec page, how is that not a tech spec?! They say 20 hours of video playing,Is that in airplane mode or under what conditions. It’s like just freaking tell us. It just feels like they are trying to hide something.

ok, but the one thing that EVERYONE cares about is battery. We all want the longest life. And just saying 20 hours of video playing is not a correct description of the battery. We don’t know what real world conditions that is in. It’s not hard to put 4,000 mah on the tech specs

They will never advertise ram, cpu speed or other specs that will be use to compare to other phones. They feel that their OS is so much more efficient that any comparison is meaningless. Plus those specs have no meaning to the average consumer anyway. Only the tech geeks would care.

How many do you think care about "Surgical Grade Stainless Steel".

The f... surgeries will people perform with their iPhone Pro antenna band?

I'm not in the crowd of making majority of Apple users seem like they have the IQ of a rock and don't care about these specs. It's just that those android phones that tout 12-16gb of RAM do not outperform iOS performance with say 6gb. This is especially true in everyday use. The same goes with battery size. If the iOS efficiently manages whatever size battery its running on, as long as your getting great numbers of usage time...what does it matter to know the battery size? It's a new battery with 100% capacity. It's going to do its job, and when you see that it is low, you're going to charge it.

Well stated. With commodity items such as PC's, one way of comparing a Dell to a Lenovo is to look at the specs - they will give you some measure of how well the device you are buying will perform.

With iPhones this doesn't provide most users with any meaningful information. The amount of RAM doesn't give you an effective way to compare it to an Android phone. For that matter, it doesn't even help you compare it against other iOS devices.

We (geeks on this forum, and geeks in general) get too hung up on these specs. The fact is, in most daily use situations, we wouldn't be able to tell the difference between 4GB and 6GB on iOS. And yet, I could tell you within 30 secs if a laptop had 4GB vs 8GB RAM - although 8GB vs 16GB would be much more difficult.

But a battery capacity on it's own is meaningless. iOS is better on battery than android, but not everyone knows that. By saying they have a 3,600mah battery for example, people will think the android alternative with a 4,000mah battery is better. Other companies list their battery life in the same way.

They never stated the amount of RAM (1 GB) in the iPhone 6 way back then and that insufficient amount of RAM was/is the phone's Achilles heel.
But since there wasn't an iPhone available that had more, the spec didn't really make any difference because there weren't any better choices.

If I were to buy a new iPhone- I'd choose the model that had the most RAM regardless of whatever stuff was jammed in it

Since there aren't other 3rd party hardware running iOS then it doesn't matter.
People just want it to run fast and have enough storage to store all the pics and vid.

If it runs fast with 4GB RAM then that's great. If it needs 6GB, that's cool. Apple doesn't have to market against "Brand X with Y GB of RAM running iOS" cause that situation doesn't exist.

The last thing Apple wants to see is a headline that says, “new iPhone 12 launces, with only 4gb RAM”.

They want to bury that info and focus on the positive features of the phone.

By the time the RAM is revealed, the press is onto some other news story.

Because it doesn’t matter.

If it has 1GB or 1TB - is it still smooth and fast to use? That’s all that matters to 99.99999 of people.

i can’t wait to see everyone here lose it when the Apple Silicon macs don’t specify the CPU speed..... ;)

Honestly. It's quite clever for 4pple never to reveal the specs in all detail. Avoids any spec comparison and quiet frankly it is not really important. iOS uses its hardware resources way differently to any Android...like people always say: "it's like comparing Apples w/ Oranges!" :)

I would say comparing specs like this makes Apple products look worse. Android’s way was always to have higher RAM and battery due to not being as optimized. Apple knows the battery life is good so they just give you terms that make them look good even though it’s via a smaller battery and less RAM.

Apple doesn't sell their phones with tech specs that mean nothing to the average user. That's Android marketing and not Apple. Normal people don't say "Hey buddy how much RAM do you have in your phone".

Even if you're trying to be a techy smart consumer you can't compare RAM in iPhones to RAM in Android phones as a performance measure. At best you would be able to compare it to another iPhone
