Does Apple specifically recommend not allowing a discharge?

A couple years ago Apple removed all that business about exercising (cycling) batteries and replaced it with these pages on batteries. There is some new information on there explaining about battery cycles I don't think was on there before. Maybe they figured out those monthly battery discharges were just adding unnecessary charging cycles... who knows?

You are correct, Apple does not say not to discharge, but they no longer are telling you to do so either.

@T5BRICK you also observed that it's no longer 2014.

Thanks. My own experience with a replacement battery: after refraining from a discharge for too long, the hardware temporarily lost the ability to begin hibernation in good time. Then I had to repeatedly allow discharges, with ungraceful results (hibernation failures), until good timing was re-learnt. I knew, before those problems, that I was ignoring Apple's recommendation; I didn't mind observing the results (AppleSeed and all that).

Nowadays I don't follow a strict monthly routine, I simply allow the occasional discharge and hibernations never fail.

YMMV; I sometimes push things so hard that the Mac takes a few minutes before the hibernatefile can be written.

At least until August 2014, Apple recommended charging and discharging at least once per month as part of a standard maintenance routine.

@ytech what model is your MacBook Pro? And/or when was it purchased?
I own 3 machines, an iMac, Mac Pro and
2015 13" rMBP 8/256... Is it normal to loose 10% battery over a night?
