After reading this article, I felt alot better, you're not limited by the hardware that you choose. It's pretty interesting to see the different work environments that other designers work in.

I'm still a second year graphic design student, so my workspace is pretty messy. :D

I'm curious, what do your workspaces look like?

Real Job: Huge desk, 24" iMac with 3 external drives next to it, printer, scanner, fax, phone system, MBox, speakers, 2nd 24" LCD monitor used on the windows box most of the time, unless I am working on video then I attach it to the iMac for more real estate.

Self Work / Photo: Huge white ikea desk, 24" iMac, keyboard wireless mouse, USB cables all over the place, photo printer/scanner, Beanie Baby dog that looks like my old husky, some cat figurines, normally have some lenses of something strewn about, wells fargo statements out the wazoo, etc.

mine looks like a mess

I didnt really realize how bad I need to clean my workspace until I took a picture of it... yikes!

Too much work to do I guess..... Currently working on two magazines (~160 ads) and one 32 page flyer (128 ads)

I promise to clean up when all the work is done at the end of April. :)

These are from when I was still working on the huge (4' x 8') Drawing table :)

Not to bad for a graphic design student eh?

First one is the big drawing table as it was almost complete. Its about 46" tall and has a built in light table. Second is of my computer and printer station, Epson WF 1100 and a Canon MX860 all powered by a WAY over powered PC haha (just to the left but not in the picture is vinyl cutter and stand/table). The last picture is of my glass desk where I do my homework and plan/sketch. Not shown are my vinyl rack and paper rack where I have probably 30 different roles of vinyl and WAY to much paper!

You can see all sorts of vinyl work on the walls as well haha

Its a nice little space and is more than enough to run my business out of for right now, one day I will get a nicer place.

Just noticed you could see one of my magazine projects laying out too!

I love that "I killed the serif" poster, haha!:D

Pretty cool. How is that ViewSonic monitor working for you?

mine is way to embarrassing to show.
I should do something about that.

Can't be worse than mine, I'm surprised how I get any work at all. I'm so unorganized. ;)

haha. But at least you're busy with work. So I say your desk isn't too bad.

It was great when I bought it about 3 or 4 years ago but is in need of replacing. I need something bigger. I'm thinking a 27 inch will be good for my needs.

It's always good to be busy. It means you're making money right?!

I'm just feeling over worked right now, but I have a trip to Spain planned for the first week of May so I can't complain. :D

Mostly tidy! iMac, secondary display, external drives, Wacom, midi keyboard etc. But they're all kept neat and tidy. It's just papers and bottles that can pile up. Notes used to be the worst. I used to have those orange sticky notes on my iMac's chin and around the monitors bezel! Don't think either liked that.

Also surprised to see theres another designer with my name.

haha no - if you look to the left, that is my quad-core (it powers the 3 vertical screens and the wacom cintiq). I have another mac pro which is my media and file server (top left screen). The top right screen is powered by an old 17" macbook pro.

I'll start.....Are all of those displays getting powered off the MBP alone?

I'll just say this: I can actually see my desk now that I've done my spring cleaning and tidied it up a bit.

That makes sense, now seeing that you have both a magic trackpad and a magic mouse, which one do you see yourself using most often for lengthy design work? (I'm curious because I have both myself, and see myself being tied to the magic mouse for most instances).
