I play on wussy level normally, so there's not a pathetic failure level for me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Nah, best to play on the recommended level. If it's challenging it will encourage you to improve your skills, and it will do so. This will make you a better player and get much more enjoyment out the games.

Currently Prey 2017 on Hard as Normal is done. You will be far more deeply entertained playing as the Dev's anticipated. I'm not by any means PCMR

I disagree, I like the easy levels, as the RPG/Story lines is more enjoyable. The casual gaming experience is what I like and so I opt for that.

Still just mucking around in WOW Dragonflight. Ok for now, leveling some alts right now as my Holy Priest main is fairly high up with gear. But with warmer weather around this might not last.

Just realized I have Rebel Galaxy 2 in my steam catalogue. Might get into that next. Really enjoyed the first one.

TBH it's a very personal thing. I simply prefer to see what the dev's original intention was for the game on stock difficulty settings. I also think a lot is related to your gaming taste. I really enjoy deeply immersive games such as Alien Isolation, Bioshock, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. System Shock 2, now Prey (2017).
RPG's I far prefer a Sci-Fi sitting, yet many fantasy titles are excellent plays :)

By any means I'm not part of the PCMR crowd with all must be played on hardcore mode  My honest opinion is that games are meant to be entertaining & enjoyable, not punishing.

How I approach; play on recommended difficulty settings, playthrough and see what transpires. If I get really interested in the game I'll go again at a harder difficulty level, if too difficult I'll drop it down.

I maintain the same that if your are suitably challenged, you will get more out the game. You will learn more, hone your skills and not get hung up or worse drop games. Applies to Daggerfall to the latest release.

Now if you want to experience real hardship LOL Radiophobia 3, full free S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game. This game is so immersive & deep graphics are irrelevant with this very challenging level of gameplay. Not for the uninitiated of the franchise or the faint of heart, equally doable with perseverance.

What I'm basically saying is that if you play easier games at a harder level, harder games will become easier. That you simply need to trust in. If on the likes of Game pass no harm no fowl. If paying for the full title very different story as a waste of $$ if you quit the game...

TLDR I like the challenge, equally you should play what & how you personally enjoy :)

I’ll say to each his/her own. :) The key here is personal enjoyment. For myself I don’t want a game to feel like a job, and the biggest turn off is to have to repeat a scenario 10 times getting your ass kicked because it tends to reduce immersion. :D
I usually start games on normal and if I like them, play through a second time, I might up the difficulty to hard, but sometimes I pick easy because I want to cruise though the game without serious pushback. The thing about easy, is that it might make you feel like a bad ass, which is good if you are having fun. In Cyberpunk 2077 I managed to feel like a bad ass on hard difficulty. :D

That's it exactly. I'm enjoying a game on easy level, so be it. I don't want the level of challenge that would turn me into a navy seal or something crazy like that. I'm happy with just spending a little time each day playing a game

Update on my Dead by Daylight torture. I have been informed by this survivor I defeated hard that I “have the IQ of a Cheez-It.”

This revelation has shocked me to my core. I must update all my bios to reflect this

Done and dusted Prey (2017)

What a game, what a playthrough. Seriously recommended, dont look, dont peek, dont research just go in blind, play first run on normal. The less you know the better with this one  Seriously such a good game, if you've not played you owe it to yourself to do so...

I'm the opposite as I enjoy the challenge. There's a certain satisfaction to beating the game as the dev team intended and if the game bites I'll go at it on a harder level

I simply like the challenge, no rhyme no reason just want to do so...

Never used a med pack, not a single one. Outrageously good imersive SIM, it's narrative really hits home. Prey (2017) is a must play...

I guess my save game for Atomic Heart didn’t actually save. I got all the way to the light house and died and the game sent me back to giving dudes head up. Sigh.

I always seek out the save game files and backup as this is all too frequent these days. If I cant save at will I generally avoid. Forcing the player to replay the same section of the game over and over is just a cheap shot...

Yeah, I am not sure if it is my own fault for leaving the game on for the past couple days paused. I made a stupid error thinking I could run through a section and got killed. I am just annoyed that I did one of the test locations and killed 2 mini bosses. I guess I will check to make sure the saves are actually saving now (this is the first time this happened).

March 2023-
  • Dragon’s Dogma Darkness Arisen- Playing on Steam. I like the combat mechanics, crafting is reasonable, a large world to explore. Yet the save mechanics suck, when you manually save the game it writes over the current save, and when it hiccups which for me has not been that infrequent, you may lose a substantial amount of progress. My advice is after every major event make a copy of the active save. (Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\548xxx\36xxx\remote\DDDA.sav) Your user number maybe different, but DDDA saves folder will start with 36. I save both the files in the 36xxx folder. Not sure how things are handled if you have cloud saves turned on, but I have Cloud saves on and I can substitute my own saves and it works.
  • World of Warships- Still playing exclusively Random Battles.
  • Grounded- Has slid more or less back into queue status. Still regard it as a good game, but too much on my plate.
  • Dying Light - Has slid back into queue status. Anticipate returning to it.

Dragon’s Dogma let’s you save at will unless you are in an active fight, but it still has a crappy save system requiring extra effort. We’ve discussed it, see my previous post. :)

As said I think it's due to the publisher being very console focused. To me you should be able to save at any point in time on a PC as it's a game, not a job.

Still with Prey (2017), New Game Plus having a blast. Think once done I'll replay on the hardest level from scratch as this one has absolutely got under the skin.
prey_2017-10.jpg

If you've never played Prey, you absolutely should do so, as it's a hell of a game. Some of Arkane's Studios very best work...

Trust me, just pick it up on GOG or Steam on a deal for buttons. You can easily put way past 200 hours into this game. Every playthrough for me is easily 40 hours and I'm still learning. Game never gets old as it's so very dynamic. So every run is unique and the game is so beautifully optimised, 100 FPS on low power mode, full fat hitting well over 200 FPS at the highest settings. Game and a half

I finally finished Atomic Heart. Ending was meh, and with no real reason to replay I've uninstalled it. Guess I have to finish playing Forspoken now.

Yeah, it does leave things open for a sequel. Technically there are two endings, one basically "closing the door" to a sequel, the other leaving the door open, but in an unsatisfying way.
Was hoping for a little more sprit, but first game out the stable. Still hooked on Prey (2017). Might roll all the way back to System Shock 2, or likely better the Bioshock franchise as across the three games is an interesting and engaging play.

Prey has at least a dozen endings. Mostly rather samey, but that's not what Prey is about. It's all in the gameplay and what a game to play it is...

  • I’ve been trying to figure out if there is an inexpensive way to play Mario Karts on my PC. I know there are emulators out there, and play in your browser versions, I just don’t want to spend $300 on a Nintendo Switch. Suggestions for a good experience? I love The 64 version, and I actually have an original 64 and Mario Karts, but when I hooked it up to a modern large TV, it looks like crap…
  • X4 Foundations- I played this on release, got tired of feeling the need to constantly deal with Xenon incursions, then over time forgot how I got my fleet of corvettes so I’m watching some tutorials and plan on giving this another shot. Just not sure if I‘ll ignore the Xenon letting the Galaxy deal with them or not.
  • Farcry 5- This is fun, playing coop.
  • World of Warships- Still playing.

Brutal Wolfenstein 3D fan remake is so good if you've ever played the classic.

To get it running on MacOS:
- Download GZDoom for MacOS and double-click to extract to folder ./GZDoom.app
- Google search for and download DOOM2.WAD
- Right click on GZDoom app, select 'show package contents', move DOOM2.WAD to ./GZDoom.app/Contents/MacOS
- Download Brutal Wolfenstein 3D, extract file ZMC-BW6.0.pk3 and move it to ./GZDoom.app folder
- Drag ZMC-BW6.0.pk3 on top of GZDoom app to play, if it prompts with a list select 'Doom 2: Hell on Earth (DOOM2)' and OpenGL renderer

For PC:
- Similar to above but get Windows GZDoom version, put DOOM2.WAD and ZMC-BW6.0.pk3 in the same GZDoom folder and select Vulkan renderer
