I'm happy I made the move to the a7iii in December. It's amazing how much easier it is to take and edit pictures with a better sensor.
Welcome back, Ish! I went through that "losing the mojo" for a while, too, and actually, that RX10 IV that I mentioned in another post is one thing which slowly brought me out of the funk and back into photography again. Since then, and especially since I bought the A7R IV, I've been shooting on nearly a daily basis and loving it as much, if not more, as I ever did!
Hi DNJ, agreed. I'm a bit remote from my favourite spots at the moment so I'm going to have to learn to look at things a bit differently if I want to keep going. What do you like to shoot?I think it’s hard when you run out of interesting things to photograph, especially right now when life is upside-down. I think many folks are rediscovering the craft, as it is still something you can do for recreation, so long as you have some sort of subject matter to work with.
I have the 25 1.8, and it is a great indoor “whatever” lens. Not yet tried the 17mm, but it’s a bit more expensive. I have the Panny 14 2.5, so I wanted a little more distance between focal lengths. I do like the 45mm, too. Amazingly sharp little bugger. I suspect if you just plan to have 2 primes, the 17 might be the better option to get you more width. If you want to have a little fun, the 9mm BCL is cheap and punches above its weight. Fits in your pocket too.
Hi Clix Pix, a sincere thanks for your post. I think it's something we all go through from time to time, maybe equivalent to writer's block, but it's been quite a long one this time. I'm just dipping my toe in the water at the moment.

These days, lots of nature. Bugs, butterflies, birds. The kids, too, but I don’t post those online.Hi Clix Pix, a sincere thanks for your post. Here are 91 pages of user samples of the 17mm 1.8. I think you’ll like it. I believe it has the manual clutch on the focus ring, where you pull it toward the camera to engage manual focus mode. Push it forward to drop into auto/focus by wire mode. My 40-150 2.8 has that feature, and it can be really handy. The Oly primes all seem to be really good.At the moment there's only 40 Eur between them in one of the local shops, so I might get the 17. I'm just hoping it's as good quality as the 45.
Thanks for this. I shall have a look for your pictures!I think you're right that it's akin to writer's block or burnout..... It was a fairly long time for me, too, and then I gradually stuck my toes in, and the POTD thread here helped enormously, because I could put in older images or I could put in something new that I'd just shot, and at first I was sharing mostly older images, but then as the old mojo started kicking back in again I began shooting more and more and sharing the results here..... One day I realized that I was actually almost doing a POTD. Once I got the new camera and lenses I definitely was shooting on a daily basis, even if it wasn't always with the new camera. Just something satisfying about taking a photo or two or three every day!
I will say, too, that my timing was pretty good, as when we were suddenly confronted with the pandemic and lockdown, everyone needing to stay at home, I had my camera and lenses (especially that 90mm macro) to keep me happily preoccupied and busy. As nice weather came along and restrictions eased up, even though I was (and am) still staying near home most of the time, again, my camera gear provided me with plenty to do, whether it is shooting photos, editing photos or backing them up, sorting my archived files, etc., etc. A real sanity saver!
Haha, love it! ?I shoot almost everyday. It’s a bit like hunting, some days you go out with the rifle and come back with nothing for dinner.
Using the original Sony A7 for now. Thinking of upgrading to the A7iii. It is better in every aspect.

The new a7c is looking very tempting too.
That must have been one expensive wide-angle lens you were considering! Was thinking I'd be buying a wide-angle lens this fall but instead, a new car took priority, so the wide angle perspective will just have to wait a while longer.....
It was more a joke about how it was either a new lens or a new car!Yeah, it is...... the Sony 12-24mm f/2.8 GM. That's the lens I really want and it's worth waiting a little longer for!
At least you can enjoy driving the new car. I bought a Canon R6, and haven't been able to use it because all the US stores have the lens adapter I need ( Canon EF to RF adaptor) on backorder. It seems that there is a high demand for the adapter since it allows for all the EF and EF-S lenses to be mounted on all Canon mirrorless cameras with R mounts (R5, R6, R, and so on).Hee, hee!!! Well, I came to the realization that this autumn would be a really good time to replace my fifteen-year-old Acura RSX before anything major went wrong with her and before winter sets in..... I decided I actually needed a new car, whereas I really could put off purchasing another new lens for a little while, anyway. I'm loving the new car, a Honda Civic Sport Hatchback that is a lot of fun to drive!
