...the applecare I bought was right around 200 or so for my macbook, and I have had to call them on 2 seperate occasions and my isight camera burnt out as well. The computer came back fully fixed in a matter of DAYS, not weeks. It was an excellent experience. In fact, I really figure that over the course of 3 years, there will be at least 2 more occurances where I will need some sort of support. That's a pretty good deal for 200 dollars. Shoot, the shipping costs, etc would have easily been more than that by now. ...

since you say you have a macbook, it should be pointed out that ALL of the hardware issues you've had fixed were covered under your 1 year standard warranty and NOT by the applecare extended warranty for which you paid extra

the Applecare extended warranty only comes into the issue AFTER the 1 year standard warranty is over so you really havent been able to take advantage of your applecare purchase yet.....at least not for hardware repairs....but maybe you've been able to take advantage of the extra telephone support you get

I would have been screwed several times without AppleCare.

1) I have had my Logic board replaced 3 times, once due to a Rev. A problem (During my first 3 months of ownership), Once due to a M$ mouse breaking a USB port, and again after a 3rd Party Memory issue. The last one was done thanks to begging and pleading, as I was 4 months out of warrenty, but I had had my screen replaced at the end, so they covered it under a 180 day extension.

2) I have had my Screen Replaced 3 times, at the same time as the logic board, except for the last time when it was due to a burn in problem.

3) Keyboards and HDs.

The only thing they would not fix was a crack in the lower bezel due to a screen replacement hinge not being secured completely to the lower section.

It was also peace of mind when ever I had a problem that I couldn't fix I could call 24/7 and someone was available to walk me through the steps to fix it.

Applecare

I have bought Applecare on all my computers and iPods. Basically, it has come in handy from time to time, especially with flat panel display. My 15" powerbook had two screen replacements, no questions asked. I would never buy a flat display or a notebook without an extended warranty due to the level of abuse they take.My daughter replaced two iPods under warranty. Though iPods are a bit different and I had to argue to get things done.

Also, having access to tech support is useful. Basically, you get a treated better and there's a price tag that comes with it.

Also, if you own a notebook computer, put it on your home insurance policy. It's about $ 12 per thousand of valuem, per year. If you ever saw a notebook slide off the end of a table and fracture into pieces, that policy was worth every cent.
