Because that is the ONLY explanation for that trend. Remember kids, correlation does NOT imply causation. There could be any number of reasons for this trend, so let's not jump to any conclusions.

Clearly, you are unaware of laws of fanboism.

From time to time companies switch up their ad campaigns. Apple always seems to take their sweet time with it, over playing ads until they are boring, somehow Apple is still able to make these successful.

However with MS, like a lot of other ad campaigns you may see switch up to keep their message fresh.

There is only so many times you can watch different laptop hunter ads until you say to yourself "Well I know they wont be getting the Mac". Same thing is happening with the I'm a Mac ads. You know that PC will always loose the debate. I think the Get a Mac ads have a longer shelf life because we know PC will be out done by Mac, but exactly how is still a mystery.

That said, I am sick and tired of the I'm a Mac ads, their old and Apple needs a new campaign.

So when a company moves on to a new series of advertisements, that makes their previous series a failure?

Your logic is distorted.

Exactly.

Perhaps Microsoft knows when an advertising idea is played out. That was within a few months.

Apple on the other hand, have been embarrassing themselves for YEARS running the same Mac vs PC Guy ads. They're like the Windows XP of the advertising world. How utterly embarrassing.

Give the MS ad creators a raise for knowing when to move on. Fire Apple's.

I change channels now when I see an Apple ad. It wasn't like this 2-3 years ago when they first started airing.

MS doesn't "get" advertising. Just like they flat out don't get the consumer.

Apple's ads WORK. They aren't hurting Apple. In fact, given Apple's overall strategy and their ridiculous success, it would be foolish to assume their ads are an aberration. How can anyone forget Hodgman and Long, the beloved Odd Coupe of the tech world? Always good for a chuckle. Apple does their ads with style and humour. Tongue-in-cheek beauty.

Record quarter after record quarter. Record Mac sales . . . in a recession! Unheard-of mindshare. Apple rips on MS (or "PC") in the most delicious, clever fashion. They're just plain smart and show a deep understanding of how to get the message across. And Apple's numbers bear all this out, easily.

Yep. Really embarrassing.

Apple's popularity and sales were increasing exponentially years before these ads ever hit the air. I'd say it started around half a decade before these ads were out (i.e. around 2002 or 2003).

I think the ads started off popular, but to say that these ads, which started a couple of years ago, are proof of the effectiveness or popularity of the ads, or proof that the ads helped launch Apple's success to another level is like telling me that you help make the Shinkansen go faster by pushing on it from behind. The Apple train was already immovable by 2007.

So while I don't think correlation between the ads and Apple's success proves causation, perhaps you are right about the ads. However, I haven't found any of them memorable. In a few years, I may be able to describe 1 or 2 out of the dozens they have done. What I DO remember is the Ellen Feiss ads from 2002, and of course, Jeff Goldblum's. ;)

The "Windows 7 was my idea" and "I'm a PC" adverts were very good.

Apple's ads work, that's obvious. I think the return is getting a bit marginal now and they need to consider a different approach though.

I didn't liket he Windows 7 was my idea commercial, to me it felt like "We don't know how to make an OS, so we asked these people" made no sense imho.

It seemed like a strange ad -- at least the one with the European who was flown to LA to test an HP -- also in the sense that it begins by saying that HP wanted to prove it could build him a better PC notebook, and then his request was purely software, and his request was something that was in Windows 7.

So what is the message here...

Did they really add this feature to Windows 7 because of him? Are Windows users really so unfamiliar with their own products that they complain about how they don't work because they don't use them (shades of Mojave)? Does anyone really think that the lack of easy connection to hot spots is the dominant issue that separates HP's notebooks from the realm of quality products? :p

Has any one seen the new Im a pc and fast wake up was my idea?

Fixed : Hi, I'm a PC and fast wake up was APPLE's IDEA.

I was going to say the same thing. I see a lot of the "ideas" in these ads and think, "Wow, I've been doing that for some time. With my Macs". Not all the things they talk about, but a lot.

Sorry, I'd love to see the evidence you have that the adverts were a failure. As far as I can see they were relatively inexpensive to produce - they didn't use any flashy effects, nor did they require celebrities or other highly paid actors.

That's the cheap part of a commercial (by far). What costs money is air time.

It felt more like "we messed up Vista and asked people what they wanted" to me.
