Yeah. The 780 and 780ti are both nice. I would have likely gotten a 780 but I really needed the 6GB of VRAM. But I figured I should get the card for what I want to do first (rendering/gaming) then folding second.

Damn, I got the 660TI short before it discontinued, I just got my second 780 short before it discontinued ... I should start reading nvidiarumors.com :p

But hey, I'm happy with them, except they fold already quite some numbers on my power bill

What I read the 780TI will even have a higher watt (270W); better for a long & cold winter :)

I am hoping for good news regarding GPU support in future versions of FCPx . This system boots into OS X quite often, so the trifecta of rendering, gaming, and FCP make me lean more to Nvidia for my GPU rather than ATI. The new ATI card is tempting, yet it has mixed support in hacintosh systems, where then nvidia will likely work without a hitch!

For me, folding is important again, but after my main uses. The extra heat it will give me may not be as noticeable, as I plan on turning off folding in my i7 when I get a new GPU :) .

Still can't believe the leaked bench of the 780 ti. If it has 4 or 6gb of memory I will be in my own tiny bit of heaven :) .

Christian, are you using the SLI feature of your two cards?

In 30 years I can read the news reports...

"BREAKING: Sitting in rooms with CPUs and GPUs running at full blast for long periods of time has been found to cause cancer, alzheimers, parkinsons, and huntingtons disease studies have shown." :(

But in good news, there is a cure for cancer, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and huntingtons disease now.

HECK YEAH! Glad I waited!

First and foremost, both GeForce GTX 780 and GeForce GTX 770 are getting price cuts, effective tomorrow (October 29th). GTX 780 will be reduced by $150 to $499, and meanwhile GTX 770 will be getting smaller $70 trim, bringing the price of that card down to $329.

Or..

Finally, along with the announcement of tomorrow’s price cuts NVIDIA has also announced the launch date for the previously announced GeForce GTX 780 Ti: November 7th (next Thursday). Furthermore NVIDIA has also announced that it will be priced at $699, placing it $200 above the GTX 780 and $150 above the 290X.

Our team which goes under costabunny's ID has our Mac pro running at some level 24 /27, we turn it up when it's not in use for anything heavy duty.

It's a 5.1 Hex with 32GB of RAM, but we need to upgrade the graphics board, just have a 5770 in there now.

My 27" iMac with the 2GB 780M and 32GB RAM joins in when I'm not doing any heavy dug work too.

I have yet to set my rMBP up but will do that shortly too. It's a great cause, and a fine acheivement by all contributors, even if you only have a few spare hours, it's worth join in in!

thanks for sharing that!

Actually the Hex that is doing over 20kppd on its own even factoring my daily use of the system and its media serving tasks; is going to be sold. :( and :)

I wanna get a brand new iMac (I really want that screen and a bigger SSD and a 780 series GPU) - selling off the Hex and buying an iMac with my student discount is a no-brainer as it will cost me £0 for the difference.

So the hex will go, and the 3.5 i7 with 780 will take its place (can't say when as all depends on the various places I have listed the MP setup).....

watch this space as we shall have 2 x iMac running (tho Macmans is CPU only as he will not allow windows on his setup) ;)

you'll have to let us know how the iMac folds

Really curious how the temps will be on a GPU folding iMac. If I see the fan on my regular 780 I wonder how the thermal design in that thin iMac can manage the heat.

I see that in the marketplace. I wish I could just buy that CPU :D

I took my 670 out (just have the Titan now) to give to a friend that has an older video card. Figured he could use the upgrade more than I could use the Folding (and heat and energy bill!). So my PPD will go down now but hopefully I have a large enough lead on costa for a while. :D

"just" a Titan? uh huh...

Well it does drop my overall PPD.

The bigger problem: it will get cold in winter. Make sure to ware some additional socks and some muffler :p

But hey: I'm still thinking similar to remove my 660Ti; but right now I still keep it in and have it mostly idle. Only weekend or sometime in between it get fired up (when it get cold ;) )
