It's great news they came out with a public statement again. Can't wait to see what the pro oriented iMac will be like.
It will have a kick ass GPU. Perhaps multicore processors or as many predict, a switch to AMD CPUs

Mac sales are higher now than they ever have been....

To highlight this, Apple just announced their Mac sales are a $25 billion business. Their Mac sales alone would nearly constitute a Fortune 100 company.

If you had AppleCare, it wouldn't matter since Apple would be picking up the tab, not you.
And the day after Applecare runs out, you want users to purchase machines older than the Applecare itself?

Not going to happen. Yet you think this is A-OK

That is the ONLY explanation. "Pro" being 8 cores/16 threads, while, also sticking it to intel for poor increases over the years, sounds perfect. Only issues will be the GPUs/thunderbolt/software APIs w/ Ryzen. Me thinks we are going to get the bottom feeder AMD gpus.

Very doub
Now that Apple has confirmed a new iMac is coming this year we need the rumor mill to start churning and get us some details.
I know thats not true for a couple of different reasons number one a rep from apple told me that they don't plan to release the next Imac till 2018, and 2 ill leave it at that because its the truth and if I had it id bet $1,000,000 on it.

Best thing they said was that Pros are more interested in performance and speed and expandability than in touchscreens. This may be all a good thing. Surprise announcements excite teenagers waiting for the next iPhone but don't matter a jot (just the opposite) to pros or prosumers who want to know how to plan for their next purchase or upgrade. It feels weird having Apple talk about future products, since they say they never do, but it might be a good thing all round. Clearly they've been caught napping somewhat and are a bit humiliated, but it might do them good. Looks like my 2009 iMac will have to manage for another few months.

Maybe so, but until we see a new machine roll out, its all lip service. Its not like that notion suddenly came to them the night before. People have long been complaining about that very thing since the new Mac Pro was introduced and since they virtually sealed the iMac. So if this is not a revelation on high, why is it going to take them more then a year to provide people with an upgradable Mac?

Because this is Apple, not Dell or HP. They're not just going to take a beige (well, black) box and slap some stuff in it and call it good. That is going to take time to design and validate. And if they do add nVidia into the mix, that requires their own Pro apps to be updated (Final Cut and Logic are designed for AMD - nVidia performance will be very disappointing without any optimization) along with macOS.

Plus there is a lot riding on this. Any mistake, no matter how little, is going to be pounced on by the community like a shark on a seal. They're going to wait to make sure they get it as right as they can.
