I actually really love this right now...works beautifully.

Source Song: Check Yes Juliet-We the Kings

Dear Maria, Count me in-All time Low

I love this song and i found out about it from looking at what others bought on itunes from check yes juliet by we the kings lol
i'll post mine when/if i ever get home :rolleyes::eek:

Thus far it has really frustrated me because it isn't working! I have tried about 30 times, and all I get is the 4010 error....

i'm actually really liking the genius thing. it's not god sent but puts together good playlists in a few seconds

Honestly, nothing.

I'm hoping that as more people add their libraries to the database, things improve.
Thing is, there are plenty of windows apps that base their selections on BPM/Genre/Artist etc, which is a lot more reliable. Genius doesn't really do this, and therefore doesn't do what it says on the tin.

I made an alarm out of softer music for Alarm Clock 2 based on Shine by Collective Soul. It worked decently. I had to delete a few harder tracks though. It even worked with my non-iTunes albums! (Pearl Jam- Live at the Gorge 2006)

Wow!

I really REALLY think the genius is going to be a Killer feature in iTunes. It really does work well. In my experience it does very nice associations and develops appropriate playlists. I also think that Genius is going to sell a ****load of songs for Apple. Nice work iTunes team!

Original : Great Balls of Fire - Jerry Lee Lewis
Really good list.

and this one's kind of interesting. I wouldn't necessarily have thought of putting these together in a playlist, but they do fit. The two outliers IMO are the Sophie B. Hawkins songs.

Sorry if this has been asked before, so many new posts over the last few days I am losing track a bit.

What does Genius actually do, as far as I can see it just creates a playlist of random songs, there must be some logic but I fail to see it.

I selected Katy Perry - I kissed a Girl, and it gives me a playlist of Nirvana and Foo Fighters (plus others)

I am failing to see the link between these songs

I fail to see the link between those songs too. :p

If you look over the lists we've posted here, you'll see that sometimes it works better than other times. But for a song as popular (ick) as that one, I'm really surprised.

How big is your library? Do you have a lot of pop songs that would make more sense than Nirvana and Foo Fighters? Have you updated Genius since you first installed 8? Are your songs properly tagges (with at least song and artist, if nothing else)? All of those factors play into how well the Genius compiles the playlist.

I have a variety of all type of songs (dont laugh at some)

Kylie, Britney, Morrissey, Smiths, Sex Pistols, some Classical, REM etc

I have about 16.5 Gig of songs and I was just trying different ones out to see what it gives

I updated genius when I first installed 8 (nothing has been added since)

Could be a tagging issue, Nirvana was ripped from CD, however Foo Fighters was bought from iTunes store

Currently its playing Everybody Hurts by REM, still fail to see the link between this and Katy Perry, now its another FooFighters called My Hero

There must be some link, I just fail to see it

Nah, I have music from all sources, and mine works.

Try updated it again. As more and more people update, it gets better matching info, so it's not just your songs that matter.

Here's my genius list for Everybody Hurts:

Source Song: Everybody Hurts R.E.M.
Linger The Cranberries
Name The Goo Goo Dolls
Streets Of Philadelphia Bruce Springsteen
Imagine John Lennon
Run-Around Blues Traveler
Faith George Michael
Fire And Rain James Taylor
Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm Crash Test Dummies
Born To Be Wild Steppenwolf
Knockin' On Heaven's Door Bob Dylan
Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me George Michael & Elton John
I'm Like a Bird Nelly Furtado
Wicked Game Chris Isaak
Walking in Memphis Marc Cohn
Son of a Preacher Man Dusty Springfield
Desert Rose (with Cheb Mami) Sting
Mrs. Robinson (Live) Simon & Garfunkel
Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go (Remastered 2006) Wham!
Eternal Flame The Bangles
Here Comes The Rain Again Eurythmics
True Colors Cyndi Lauper
The One I Love (Live & Acoustic - MTV Unplugged) R.E.M.
I Will Remember You Sarah McLachlan
Tears In Heaven Eric Clapton

That makes sense to me. Not all of the songs fit perfectly, but as a whole it does. How does your list look from the same song?

'snip'

Just updated genius and then ran it on Everybody Hurts

Torn,Natalie imbruglia
Every Little Thing She Does, The Police
Rocket Man, Elton John
Wild World, Cat Stevens
Video Killed The Radio Star, Buggles
Heart of Glass, Blondie
Talk, Coldplay
Relax, Frankie Goes to Hollywood
Another Brick in the Wall, Pink Floyd
My Hero, Foo Fighters
Take a Chance on Me, Abba
Dont Let The Sun Go Down on Me, Elton John
Nightswimming, REM
Lithium, Nirvana
Somebody to Love, queen
Mad World, Tears for Fears
Vincent, Don Mclean
Patience, Take That
Roxanne, The Police
Peace Train, Cat Stevens
Run, Snow Patrol
Suspicious Minds, Elvis Presley
Killer Queen, Queen
We Didnt Start The Fire, Billy Joel

That makes more sense than before, don't you think? We even have a couple of songs in common.

Definitely room for improvement, though.

It does look better, they do sound all right together

Be nice to know how it links them together though

Shame its brought Take That into it:(, I use recently played as a means to get my songs on my iPhone/Touch and didnt really want that on there:eek:

The Genius lists in my iPhone are definitely not as good as the one in iTunes. I have less than 1000 in my phone, but close to 5000 in iTunes, so it only makes sense.

And I'm more prone to get the "can't make a list" error on my phone, because it's full of songs and genres that the Genius doesn't look at. :(

Like I said, room for improvement, but still a lot of fun and really impressive.
