Did anyone ever thought about it that, if Steve Jobs dies, what would happen to Apple? Steve manages about everything in the whole company right?? Every design, every major decision. He's 52 years now, and have had a form of cancer. What the hell would happen if we lost him? That would be the worst thing that can happen to the company right! I can imagine that shares drop to around 0$ afther this fact hit news.

Just something I thought about this morning....

"Retires" might replace "dies"...and I think that Ive would in a short time take over, after a temporary spill with someone (Shiller?)

Sell Sell Sell!!!!!!

Seriously though, something tells me that Apple is like the Corleone family with Jobs as the Don. He will pass the company to someone capable of handling it.

I personally think Apple is not all about Steve Jobs. There are many people working behind the scenes and if such a need arises I am sure they will take up the reins responsibly.

As much as I'd miss the guy, I don't think he's as completely responsible for every single decision, just he's the one who stands up and announces them. Jobs always has been the public face and the charisma behind Apple's following. When apple was formed, Steve Wozniak was the one making the computers, and Jobs was the one selling them. Jobs has a wonderful way with words, and he has the 'RDF'. It would take a HUGE personality to replace Jobs and in that sense, without Jobs, Apple loses its identity. Identity and reputation are the biggest things to any company, and Jobs knows that and tries his best to ensure Apple remains a maker of desirable products. The products may be the same after Jobs has left, but no-one can sell them the way he does!

I don't Philler is as capable as Steve is. However what Moviecutter said is something I think is a good one. If Steve Jobs is going to retire, he will find someone who is capable of running the company and everything else. I sure hope so. I don't even own a Mac YET. And when I do, I don't wan't the glory to be over, ever!

Well, Jobs had grown so rich, he wanted to retire. So he took me to his cabin and told me his secret. "I am not Steve Jobs," he said. "My name is Ryan. I inherited Apple from the previous Steve Jobs, just as you will inherit it from me. The man I inherited it from was not the real Steve Jobs, either. His name was Cummerbund. The real Jobs has been retired fifteen years and living like a king in Cupertino." Then he explained the name was the important thing for inspiring the necessary awe. You see, no one would buy anything from Bill Jobs.

I don't know. It won't be just the same. But if the company still performs there's nothing to it.

I laughed so hard on this one:p;):D

Stock can drop in price if the CEO sneezes.

Yes, I'd expect a short-term drop on the news if SJ were to bite it. It won't have an impact in the long run if the company can continue to perform.

there's something that i don't understand, who decides if the stock goes up or down?? analysts? and on what facts do they choose to let it up or down?

i'm only a teenager so that's why i don't know..

When he dies he'll rise again after 3 days. I know we've already had the second coming of Jobs. But 3rd times a charm!:)

If that's going to be the market reaction, maybe it'll be a good time to buy AAPL.

Certainly, a change of Apple leadership, and all those bios and obits would garner media attention week after week. Is there such a thing as "sympathy purchases" that might even spur sales?

I agree. I think Steve is the face of Apple, but definitely not the entire heart and soul of the company.
Sure the stock price might dip a bit. But I believe in Apple surviving just fine.

Apple stock would fall at least 25% the day he died, in upwards of 50%.

It's fallen that much in a day in the past for far less significant reasons.

It probably would bounce back a little, but not fully recover until they'd strung together several successful quarters without him.
