I'm not an Android user

Well that says it all right there. Commenting on something you havent even used before is just absurd, I shouldnt even bother replying to it. Go play with a G1 and then a Nexus One, then try to tell me it doesnt feel like a huge leap forward.

Really? Look at a list of what both phones have side by side and it's not even close. The nexus one wins every category. Just the ability to be able to upgrade the memory with a larger SD card is a huge plus. RAM is another issue. Even the iPad I am typing on only has 256MB while my HTC Hero has 288. That's ridiculous. I mean seriously, the iPhone wasn't even able to do MMS messaging until recently without a jailbreak. Even basic phones could do that. Apple really needs to step it up.

That's the problem when you compare on paper. In reality,.....

1. The Nexus screen is unresponsive. Sometimes I have to click things a few tines to register
2. I do not like the email client
3. The onscreen keyboard is terrible (I mean really bad)
4. Music player is plain bad
5. Way to many menus
6. Apps stink. You will really miss the apps if you switch

Ok, I will play. I own a Nexus One and it DOES NOT FEEL LIKE A HUGE LEAP FORWARD. The screen sure is pretty though.

2, 4, 5 and 6 are all subjective really. You cant compare apps just yet, iPhone had a 3 year head start. It still baffles me that even with that head start, the phone is still not as functional as it should be. I will live with all that for the ability to have true multi tasking. Whats the point of having a ton of great apps when you can only use 1 at a time?

Unlike most of the zombies and also loving apple I have to agree, they are playing catch up and losing on the iPhone. The thing keeping them in them game is the app store and devs, and that's a big big thing.

Huh? I cant compare apps? Please don't use this crazy excuse anymore. Android devices have been available for years now.

I would rather use 1 great app at a time, then a bunch of mediocre apps running at the same time.

Hmmm. Well the only advantage the iPhone and it's os has over android and a phone like the nexus one for instance, was a larger app store. It ends there.

Wrong. You forget why the mass buys apple products. Service, support and ease of use is a huge reason.

You are simply looking at specs and saying that Apple is in trouble.

Apple succeeds because they have multiple layers of products that are easy to use and beautiful, coupled with great stores, great support, and great customer satisfaction.

You should ask the 50 million users that ;)

I am extremely disappointed with Apple's new 4.0 announcements.

Have you even used 4.0? I'm guessing the answer to that is no. They only mentioned seven of the larger features. Use it and you should (unless you're determined to dislike it) start to feel different I think.

Also, perhaps wait until summer and see what the new hardware brings. You obviously seem to think that hardware is the most important thing ever (vis-a-vis your comparison between 256mb ram vs 288mb ram). Hardware is only as good as it's software in my opinion so I think looking at these numbers on a specsheet is the same as looking at megapixel counts in camera advertisements. If you don't like your products then sell them and buy the competition.

What great app can you get on the iphone I cant in the Android market? I can even get Wobble :D

Decimate is sheer hyperbole as Apple has barely met the bar and not by much. The iPhone OS still has the same antiquated home screen, blank lock screen, limited customization, no direct printing, no widgets, a horrible notification system, and no built in turn by turn GPS. With the sheer ferocity Google is going at Apple with Android, the iPhone could really lose the top spot if it doesn't stay at the forefront of technology. Right now the iPhone is resembling the RAZR with it's constant incremental updates while the competition keeps raising the bar.

Apple is on no way shape or form even remotely close to losing the top spot. Not even a little bit. Not even a pinch.

None of you get the point of android. It's about making your own experience. If you don't like the home screen, thats fine, download one of the others on the marketplace. Put on a custom skin and it feels like a whole new phone. If you dont like the music app they give you, download the 3 player (pronounced cubed). They don't tell you what you can and cannot have on your phone, yeah the app store is a mess thats true. It needs reorganized bad. But its not like the apple app store is perfect either. You can find the top and most popular apps, anything else i lost unless you want to get on a computer or search for a specific app.
I haven't tried the nexus one, but i love the droid. The only thing i hate about it is there is no music app on your computer to sync to, and its a little bulky. The screen looks awesome and i haven't had any problems with the phone. I usually buy a new phone every couple of months cause i end up hating the phone i have, i had the BB storm and the LG dare for like 3 months each, and sold them cause they sucked. I was looking to upgrade to the iphone later in the year or a new windows phone cause i am looking for a phone that focuses on music too. OS 4 looks decent, but android is still a little better. If they don't make a drastically different OS 4 for ipad though, i am gonna be pissed.

My goodness, do I really need to start listing apps? Do you use an iPhone?

No, the HTC Hero. I have enough friend who have iphones though and I can download pretty much any popular app they have. But they cant multi task or get voice guided GPS directions like I can. Two hugely important things IMO.

Ok, I buy that, but what happens if you find out that while customizing you home screen is a nice way to spend some time, in the end (to some) its not nearly as important as a usable keyboard.

Or if you go to download a replacement music app, but find that none of them are any good?

I do get the point of android and all the rest. I also get the point of the iPhone, which is turn it on and it works. Average Joe can use it, and not go look in multiple places and wonder if an app will work with the new phone they just bought.

What is Apple doing with OS 4? They are moving one step closer, to wiping every other phone, and slate off the face of the planet.
They are filling the gaps, refining. Doing things slowly, but making sure they are done right.

I saw the Keynote, and the multi-tasking is amazing. I can't wait until we get to know the other 93+ features in OS 4.

What is "true" multi tasking? What is fake multi tasking?

Well for instance. On my Hero, I can be online and have MSN as well as Yahoo messenger open. I can be browsing websites and if I get messaged, it shows up in my notification bar. I can drag it down, tap it and reply and then go back into the web page. You cannot do that with an iPhone currently. I am not even sure 4.0 will allow that. That would be multi tasking.

This may have been mentioned above sorry tired and didn't feel like reading all the posts, but is it just me or do you all think that the iPad version of 4.0 is going to be a little different then the iPhone 4.0. Idk why I feel this but I just do the way Jobs talked today it was all iPhone then mentioned of the iPad at the end with a later release date that maybe it's pushed back because there are some features that they want to include that just aren't ready for a June or summer launch. Let me know what ya all think it was just a little thing that I felt based off the way he presented the os and related to the iPad.

So on my current iPhone, I can be logged into MSN. While browsing the internet, I will get messaged and get a notification. I can choose to respond to it. When I'm finished, I can go back to my web page.

Please explain the difference.

How do you do this? I cant figure out how to keep my MSN or Yahoo open while I browse on Safari.

The android keyboard is actually really good, I havent ever had a problem with it. But if you don't like it, you can download a new keyboard if you want. A lot of people don't like the iPhones, but they don't have that choice. Also, some android phones have physical keyboard, which is a big plus for some people.

And if you can't find a music app you like, at least you have the choice to pick the best one. I hate apples music app, the zune HD has a really good music app in my opinion. I like just swiping the picture to change songs, you don't have to constantly look down. And the shuffling is better. But I think the cube is the best one available on a phone right now next to iphone's. And the stock app isn't horrible, it's just not great either.

This is true. The customization on an Android phone is awesome. Dont like the keyboard? Download a different one. Dont like your battery icon? Donwload a different one etc...I didnt like the default messenger, so I downloaded a new one. It also has the iPhone skin so my text messages look just like they would on an iPhone :)
