What is considered to be a creak?

What exactly does everyone consider to be a "creak" on the MBA? I just got mine and it doesn't creak when I open or shut the lid, but I notice when I am typing and I press on the right side of the trackpad with my right palm that it sometimes seems to stick and I can hear a click when I lift my palm. I also can reproduce the this by just pressing with one finger both on the area to the right of the trackpad and also on the top right corner near the power button and down the right side.

It doesn't always do this, but when it does it is noticeable. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Remember how tightly packed the parts inside are.
Push down hard, and you are hitting something.

Yeah, so should every other company, but you know what, defects happens. That's what warranties are for. Good luck in life with that frame of thinking.

BTW, not to piss you off, but my MBA is perfect. No screen issues, no creaks, just a nice old product without a defect.

Why do you have to be so defensive? Be happy with your perfect product. I am so happy for you.

For me, I'm not happy with defects, so I will return it. I still like Apple, but not the laptops. They are too fragile for me.

Fragile ? A solid slab of aluminum is fragile ? Again, I'm not happy with defects either but my solution is not to just return a product I want and make do without it, it's to use the warranty to get a perfect product.

Your thinking is seriously flawed on this. Instead of posting a victim thread to MacRumors, if you had went to the Apple Store to get an exchange, you would have a new MacBook Air right now and it would in all probability be perfect. But instead you're here building up frustration...

I'm not frustrated at all. I will return it when the Apple Stores are open Can't really do it on Thanksgiving Day now can you?

Maybe I'll go for an iMac. Who knows...maybe I'll just stick with my PowerBook G4...we shall see...

Its called edge dislocation.

Its when a row of atoms in a materials crystal structure are arranged in such a way that they align with the previous row of atoms. The direction of the applied stress is parallel to the dislocation. If the dislocation is perpendicular to the direction of the applied stress, then it is knows as screw dislocation.

Just explain that to the Apple Rep and they'll replace it for you in no time.

It's only fragile in your opinion. The MBA is no more fragile than other Apple laptops. If I drop both the MBA and the MBP they will break. The creak isn't a sign of it being fragile. It's a sign that the screws on the bottom are tightened improperly. Unscrewing them and retightening correctly would like fix it. But it's clear you're not interested in fixing the problem, merely complaining about it.

With all due respect, I believe that's utterly silly .

It creaks a little because case parts and components are flexible; no big deal for me, just another price you pay for the size and weight.
There simply is no room for proper support of the case uppers.

Look at the images on iFixit - I'd be worried if she didn't moan a little, might be empty. .

On the 13" I had it was clear one screw was fully tight causing the sound. I took it to the genius bar and they agreed. However they didn't have the tools yet at that time so they exchanged it. And the exchanged didn't make the sound. If it was due to flex the new one would have had the sound too, now wouldn't it?

I eventually exchanged the 13" for the 11" for better portability. And it doesn't make any sound either. So I disagree with the idea that it's just flex.
