The OP has a real defect with his laptop and he complains about it and you guys are asking him to shut up and quietly go get it exchanged?

The question of why the defect was there in the first place is a very valid one. What if they can't exchange it? What if I bought a Macbook Air and I shipped it to a friend in a different country. Why should I have to go through the hassle getting that shipped back and then exchanged and then reshipped? Forget about the other country. Even if the Apple store was right next door, why should I have to move a finger?

I had gone through 3 iPads before I settled on my current one. And the current one isn't without defect either. I just gave up. Every time, I had to go to the apple store and wait for 30 minutes until they could exchange it. I just didn't want to spend any more time on it. It just ruined the whole iPad experience for me.

I totally understand that defects do happen in mass production, and that a fraction of these defective units do get through QC. And this is why manufacturers have return policies and warranties. I am totally okay with that. What I am not okay with is the fact that some of you almost seem to say that the OP shouldn't be complaining about this at all. That is non-sense.

If your laptop is perfect, then good for you. But don't question the right of someone to complain if they got a defective product.

Again : Slab of solid aluminum. It's not fragile at all.

Do you even know what a "Slab of solid aluminum" is? This is a slab of solid of aluminum:

The Macbook Air is a complex machine with lots of moving parts. It is indeed far far more fragile than a "slab of solid aluminum". But you already know that. You just wanted to say something dramatic like "slab of solid aluminum" to support your (incorrect) argument.

Hey, nice picture of what a Macbook air looked liked before it went into the flow jet!

Lots of moving parts ? 2 hinges ?

Yes, that's exactly what we are saying. Defective electronics happen. Fact of life unfortunately and the proper response is not to whine about it, but to use the warranty.

...

No people are telling him to go get it exchanged. He has said he's just going to return it since Apple gave him a flawed product. That's the attitude everyone is responding to.
