No it will not reboot when connected to something. It reboots when i try to download that Coconut app and a few other times but i haven't noticed why... in any case it does not reboot when being connected.

Download that coconut app where?
That is a mac computer application only. Do you know that?
Coconut does not run on the iPad, only on a MAC computer.
There's probably nothing wrong with your iPad, you just don't know what you're doing.

I know that its an OSX application the one im downloading, even so is it normal to make the iPad to reboot when downloading it? Try it your self if you want.

Why would I download and try to run an OS X program on my iPad when it's not made for that?
And then think something is wrong wth the iPad and needs to a dfu restore?

Im not trying to run it, just to download it. Shouldnt i be able to do that, is it forbidden for the iPad to download files?

Correct.
You need to download it on your mac computer.
Dont download a mac osx install file or an .exe windows program or similar files that do not run on the iPad, cause it will cause it to crush.

So this is something that can happen to anyone? Is that what your saying? Anyone who downloads the file im talking about will cause its iPad to Reboot? This is hard for me to believe that there is such a case... can anyone else confirm this please?

AJ, it's just a ZIP file. All he's trying to do is download it, not uncompress it and run it.

I imagine it's much the same as using one computer with a different OS to download a file (zip) you intend to run on a different computer. I do that all the time with my Intel Mac at work for files to run on my Windows PC or older PowerPC Macs at home. Or vice versa.

There's nothing executable about the file, it's just a compressed file.

For whatever reason it might cause that.
I'm not willing to test it because I have no reason to download an OS X install program file on my iPad.
Why don't you try to download Norton antivirus too and see what happens?
There's nothing wrong with your iPad and you do not need a dfu restore. Just stop trying to download files that do not run on iOS.

It's a zip file with the install folders inside for Mac OS.
So you're telling him to keep doing it and there's something wrong with his iPad? It's not the same as downloading it on a computer cause the computer doesn't crash when you download files for another OS.
Do whatever you want op.
I tried to help but obviously you got this. Keep doing it.

Obviously it's causing issues with the iPad and he should stop doing it cause it causes it to crash.
What's your suggestion?
Try it out for him Erik.

What I am saying is that downloading it shouldn't be causing this.

If OP was trying to install and run the files inside the compressed file than yes, you'd be absolutely correct.

But that isn't what he's doing.

I download zip files intended for PCs on my Mac, iPad or iPhone all the time. I don't try to run them. I put them on Dropbox or transfer them to a USB stick. It's easier and faster to do that.

This is probably what OP's friend is trying to do. It's just using the iPad as temporary storage for a compressed file intended to go to a Mac.

Now, if the download app is trying to uncompress and run the install files then that's a different story and COULD be why the iPad is restarting.

It does nothing in Safari. I go to the link and nothing happens. But I don't use Safari for web browsing. Maybe it's a setting or something, IDK.

But going to the file in Dolphin (the browser I use normally) results in a download.

Since when was the ipad a temporary storage like a usb drive to run the install files later on a computer?
You download and save install programs for windows or mac on your ipad or iphone?
If the particular download causes it to crush simply you just stop doing it, not DFU restore the ipad.
Judging from the particular users posts he probably thought he could run Coconut battery on the ipad and was thinking something is wrong with the ipad.
He doesnt even know how to use itunes backup, restore from backup or do a restore.

That is false.
Apple’s iOS actually has had support, albeit limited, for zip files since iOS 7.
You can open a zipped file to view its contents. iOS does a pretty good job of displaying text files, pdf, images, Word documents, and even Excel spreadsheets. You can also print it or Airdrop it.
So iOS is opening it and then causes the device to crash.
What is your suggest, to keep doing it and there's something wrong with his ipad?

I've used my iPads and iPhones as temporary storage before simply because it's what I had at the time and I didn't want to try and find the download again when getting back to the computer I intended to run the file on. Of course being jailbroken this is easier for me than others, but I have done it.

All I was saying was that as a compressed file it should not have caused the iPad to restart because as a compressed file there's nothing to run/install. At minimum with Safari it should have done what it did with my iPad. Nothing.

If that is the case, then this is probably what's happening.

Curious to know why it's not doing it under Safari with my iPad though as it's running 8.1.

With JB devices you can do that, ipads and iphones or other stock ios devices are not meant to be used as usb drives.
And yes ios has some un-compressing functions built in and allows opening of zip files.
