I've sold 2 iPhones and 2 iPads on Swappa with absolutely no problem. Trade-in's to Apple are a bit of a rip. AFAIK, you can always get more from selling verses trading in. That said, about 2-3 months ago I had an IP6S that was having some problems. My policy is to never sell any electronic item that has problems without full disclosure. At that time, the 6SE's were selling for $100-$150 on eBay. Instead, I took the phone to an Apple Store to trade in for the latest SE.

My salesmen looked the phone over pretty closely (I think he might have even taken it to the backroom) and then he offered me $70 on a trade-in which I took in a NYM.
Personally, I did not have issues with Swappa, but one thing I don't like is them low-balling the offer. So I tend not to use those places if I can avoid using them. Sure I still can get more then selling it via gazelle.

I was originally thinking Swappa for my XS Max, but I read some posts here where people had experienced issues with them, so this year I'm just gonna take the hit and trade it into Apple. I really am not in the mood in the middle of a pandemic to deal with asshats on Craigslist, FB Marketplace, etc. I know it's the best way to go but I don't think I can do it.

One year I just put up a flyer at work and had it sold in a day for a reasonable price, it was great. But these days we all work from home, so I don't really have that route right now, and no family members needed an XS Max I could hand down either.

An option instead of the shady Craigslist people, I use Offer Up - it make the buyer register their email, phone, social media, etc...

I have had zero problems with Offer Up since switching from CL.

For online, I use eBay - still the best for sellers and buyers.

Decluttr.com is giving me $639 for my 11pm 64gb. More than anywhere else I’ve found. Just traded in my  watch with them to test them. Quick payment through PayPal. Only pain is you provide your own box.
How are you getting that amount? They only offer $518 for 64gb 11pm when I look it up.

Ebay’s fees are ridiculous now. FB Marketplace is a good place to sell, but if you ship and use the FB pay, you will not get paid until 5 days after the device arrives in the customers hands. No biggie but for those wanting money ASAP, use a different pay method.

I second FB Marketplace. All buyers are tied to their Facebook profiles, so it's not anonymous. I've met up with dozens of people through FB marketplace over the years and never had a single issue with the exchange. You have to negotiate a little and deal with low-ballers, but it's worth it for the extra cash you get.

Never heard of Decluttr.com. Do you send your items directly to them and then they sell the item? Also, what box are you referring to?

I’ve never used them but I’m considering them for my iPhone X.
They give you a quote, you send them the phone, they evaluate it, and then they pay you.
They provide the shipping label but you have to find your own box and pack it yourself.
And they’ve got a 10% bonus for first time users.

Use code hello10 or 9to5mac for an extra 10%. Might also be quoting a little lower now since I got my offer. You have 28 days to send your phone/item in.

Yes send them directly to them. They email you a prepaid label. I’m not sure what they do with the device. I’d assume sell it. I’m not worried about it honestly. The box I’m referring to is the box you send the item your selling in.

Ebay is far from the best. Swappa is way more safe than Ebay. I stopped using Ebay 2 years ago as every thing I sold, seemed to hit a scammer.

I won't sell to individuals anymore, not worth the hassle. I sell all of my Apple stuff to macmeanoffer now, never had an issue or just trade in at Apple.
