What was it like to get your first Mac in your life? Mine was a tangerine iBook 300mhz that was given to me by a friend back in Philadelphia when he upgraded to a Powerbook G4 15" back in 2003. Stories would be great!

My first Mac
My first Mac was the IIcx, the first Mac with a separate color CRT. It was a beauty and it had a huge hard drive at 100MB. I wondered at the time how I would ever fill it up!

My first Mac was a PowerBook 3400c I bought from eBay for $100 in late 2000. From then the old Mac bug bit me, mostly because I was a poor high-school student. Soon afterwards I bought a PowerMac 7300 from eBay.
In college, my freshman year (2002-2003) I owned a PowerMac G3 all-in-one. Holy crap that thing was a boat weighing in at 60 lbs.

I'm actually a pretty freshman in Mac world as the iMac in my sig is my first Mac. I got tired of Vista and its issues plus some of my friends had Macs and recommended them. I also found OS X being very nice. I haven't regretted the switch though Windows 7 is VERY nice. If I could choose now, I would probably build a PC for heavier stuff and get a MacBook with SSD for other stuff
The Bondi Blue iMac, the first iMac that came out. Still have it in the closet with its hockey puck mouse and keyboard. I plan to turn it into a fish tank one of these days.
First release of the Unibody line. I had the 15" Macbook Pro. After 14 months of looking into OS X and reviews etc. I finally purchased it. I will never go back on a PC (unless I use bootcamp to use windows!)
OS X means you can work so much efficiently and have a better UI to do so, but it's much more than eye candy... "It just works"

my first mac was the original Macintosh Plus. Man what a sweet computer... good old days with Carmen Sandiego and Oregon trail.. then got a performa and thought color on the mac was amazing... went awhile before getting an eMac and then in 2007 the first alum iMac and now using a MBP...
my very first was a mac classic hand me down, 8 Mhz 68k processor, 40Mb harddrive. then after that came the performa, clocking in at a whopping 75mhz and sporting a 800 Mb harddrive. i think that mac is still running somewhere... then, years later came the white ibook g3 @500 Mhz, next was the powerbook g4 at 1.25Ghz, then the dual 1.8Ghz G5, and now the dual 2.5Ghz macbook pro. as far as i know, all are still working
First was a Mac Plus. Over time, I upgraded it from the stock 1MB of memory to its 4MB maximum. After first buying a 20MB SCSI external drive for it, I eventually upgraded to a 100MB drive for only about $700 in early-90s dollars. I still turn it on occasionally.
Next came a first generation PPC machine - the 6100 in the "pizza box" enclosure. I remember over time upgrading its stock 240MB hard drive to a 1GB and then a 4.5GB drive. Who could ever need more than that?
A PowerBook 1400 came next for travel. Then a G4 Tower (Sawtooth), a G3 iBook, a "half-dome" G4 iMac, and then a G4 iBook. Finally, consolidated desktop and laptop on a mid-2007 MacBook Pro with external display when in desktop mode. The G4 iMac soldiers on as our household server (probably to be replaced by a new iMac this summer) and the G4 iBook is used by my son. The G4 Tower sits ready to go should something happen to the G4 iMac to meet our server needs.

I had a couple of second-hand 68K machines at one point (an LC III and a Colour Classic) but I don't consider them to be "real" machines because they were certainly outdated by the time I get them.
I bought an iBook (the one in the third column) online in early 2003, and it actually arrived on Valentine's Day, and that's the machine that I consider to be my first proper Mac.
I'm on my fifth Mac since then, a MacBook Pro (middle column).

I started my conversion by using a Mac as second machine... (Oh, and BTW, until my current MBP, all my machines were used purchases off of eBay. This MBP is my FIRST NEW MAC. )

Even though my PC was much faster, I was always using the Dual G4. And then, one sad and rainy day, my good friend refused to turn on... and thus I learned Mac troubleshooting... But his days were numbered, and he died for good a few weeks later. It was a sad day indeed, but a good excuse to switch to the newly announced Intel processors!
#3.5 - iMac G4 - Bought on a whim while I still had the G4 (but it was acting up), it was an 800MHz G4, 768MB RAM, 80GB HD, and OS X 10.3. I loved the looks of it, but the 800MHz G4 was just too slow... sold it within a month.
#4 - Mac Mini Core Solo - Yes, I bought a Core Solo Mini... I found a good deal ($425 brand new!) and I later upgraded it to a 2.0GHz Core Duo. I used this machine for almost 3 years until I couldn't handle the GMA950 any more...
#5 - iMac Core 2 Duo - 17" iMac, 2.0GHz Core 2, 3GB RAM, upgraded to 500GB hard drive, eventually upgraded to Snow Leopard. Sold only because I decided I'd rather have a laptop...
#6 (and current) - 2010 13" Macbook Pro. Base model, but I've upgraded the hard drive to 640GB and I'm connected to a 24" LCD. I LOVE this setup. Got a couple more things I want (want an aluminum keyboard to replace my white one, and I want a Henge Dock to quickly connect and disconnect everything), but I love everything about it. That is, until the bug bites me again...

I bought my first Mac, a Quadra 605, after my brother moved out and took his IIsi with him.
The 605 had a whopping 25MHz processor, 160 MB hard drive, and a whole 8MB of RAM. I also had Apple's B/W SCSI OneScanner and 2x external CDROM drive, as well as a iomega Jaz cartridge drive. (I believe each Jaz cartridge held 1GB) Ahh... memories
Since then there was a (often upgraded) PowerMac 6500, a 733MHz Quicksilver G4 (eventually upgraded to 1.3 GHz and still seeing some use by my Mom), a 14" iBook (still being used by my stepmother), a 17" CoreDuo MacBook Pro (the first 17" after the Intel switch, and still in use by one of my old employees), a MacPro 1,1, and most recently a 2009 Unibody 15" MBP (You can have my ExpressCard slot when you pry it from my cold dead fingers).

First Mac in October 1988 was
a MacII. 100 meg HD, can't remember if it was 2 or 4 megs of RAM.
Never used a computer until then. In fact, I did not know even how to turn it on, never mind use the programs I needed.
Between the MacII, a flatbed scanner, NEC monitor, and all the software I spent $12,000.00.

Oregon Trail FTW! I remember playing that on an LC of some sort, I believe an LCIII, although sadly it was not mine. My first Mac is the aluminum MB that I am typing on now, I love it and will not be switching back
Mac IIsi 20MHz 68030, 4MB Ram, 80MB HD, Apple 640x480 256 color Monitor. Paid about 6800 german Mark for it. Was about 3000-4000 dollar at the time I guess. It had OS 6.1.7 on it. It was a great machine for easy stuff but dog slow on heavvy graphics. Forget Video.
After 4 years it died. Just wouldn't turn on anymore. Probably powersupply. It got replaced by a Powermac with 266 MHz. That was my favorite Mac because it was lightning fast at the time.

I first got interested in Macs in high school. I got my first job at a deli, saved up the whole summer and bought myself a 14" iBook G4. It died in college and I replaced it with a 15" Macbook Pro.
Mine was a Mac SE/30 that I bought when I went to college. Before that, I used an Apple IIc at home (family computer) and the couple of Apple IIe's we had at high school.
I used that trusty old SE/30 well into grad school before getting a 5300c laptop, then a Sawtooth G4 (still running!), a G4 TiBook, a 12" 1 GHz PowerBook, an iSight G5 iMac, a 15" MacBook Pro, and a 27" Core i7 iMac.

My first Mac was a second-hand Blue & White PowerMac G3. I also had a Windows ME machine at the time, and Mac OS 9 was a world of difference. I still have the old B&W around somewhere, I think my nephew is using it to mess around in linux.
After that I got the original 15" Al PowerBook for college, later upgraded to the final model 15" Al PowerBook. I added a C2D Mac mini to test the waters after the Intel switch, then sold the PB and mini to buy a 15" Penryn MacBook Pro. Then I gave away my Windows desktop to my brother and bought another mini, which I used for a year and then sold to build a Core i5 Hackintosh a mere six weeks before the Core i-series iMacs were released. Maintaining the Hackintosh is proving to be more trouble than it's worth, so I'll be giving it to my brother as a gaming PC once the iMacs get a refresh. I also recently traded my MBP for the top model Air, and now I'm completely spoiled as far as laptops are concerned. This Air is just as capable as the Pro it replaced, and it's so small and light carry it everywhere. I'll never buy a big laptop again.
