First one I got was a Mac Plus the year it came out, 86 I think, and it was for free.
First one I spent my own money on was an LCII. Cost me around 1,000 bucks, no monitor.

My dads PowerBook 180 from when he was in college was my first, worked until I tried to update the OS :(

My first Mac was actually an Apple Classic that I used as a kid for school projects when my dad first married my step-mom. Incidentally, it was also my first computer period, after which we became PC people at my house and had a Win 98 machine and an XP desktop respectively, along with several XP/Vista laptops in the house. In high school I immersed myself in the PC side and never really thought much of Macs...I was that typical gamer who felt the only good computer was a Windows computer. This held true until I hit college where things started to change. I used Macs more at that point, and gradually came to love OS X...eventually I decided to field-test OS X, so I bought an install disc and built a hackintosh after having become very fed up with Windows Vista. That computer was so awesome, I actually trace my time as a Mac user back to when I first started using the hack as my primary laptop and OS, which would make me a 2 year old mac user. My current Mac is the one in my sig, and its my first purchased Mac! It's been a long road but I think its safe to say I'm here to stay! :)

mine would be an apple IIgs many moons ago. if i remember right i thought i was the man when i got 1mb of memory!

First was a dual 450Mhz Yikes, then a dual 500 sawtooth, then a 2Ghz PM G5, then a 2.16Ghz c2d MBP, then a 24" iMac to to a PC lol, only macs i own now are a dual 867 MDD G4 and a iMac G3 600Mhz lol

my first mac was the original Macintosh Plus. Man what a sweet computer... good old days with Carmen Sandiego and Oregon trail.. then got a performa and thought color on the mac was amazing... went awhile before getting an eMac and then in 2007 the first alum iMac and now using a MBP...

Wow, we had almost the same computers. I had a Classic and a Performa 6290CD.

1999 - iMac G3 333 MHz, 96 MB RAM (upgrade), 6 GB HDD: 1300 dollars :)
2004 - PowerBook G4, 1.25 GHz, 1 GB RAM, 80 GB HDD: 2700 dollars
2009 - MacBook Pro, C2D 2.80 GHz, 4 GB RAM, 500 GB HDD: 2400 dollars :eek::cool:
2014 - Future MacBook Pro, X GHz, Y GB RAM, Z TB HDD: 2500 dollars :D

In the market for a Mac Pro to do some video editing and serious computing... patiently waiting until upgrade... maybe even delay until next summer.

2.2GHz 13" White MacBook, October 2007. Greatest day of my life lol. I waited until Leopard dropped before I took the plunge on my very own personal Mac.

My family first had a Mac SE with 1 meg of ram, 20 meg HDD and a HD floppy drive. With the Image Writer II and an educational discount, I think it cost about three grand.

A few years later, after getting my first job, I purchased a floor demo Mac IIvx from CompUSA. It died the first night (power supply failed). We had to go back and trade it for another.

Since then, I personally have had a Performa 5200, Pismo Powerbook, G4 iMac (snowball), iBook and now a MacBook.

I look longingly at the 27 inch iMac every time I enter Best Buy...

I'm a new commer....
Started with an iPhone 2g..

Loved that so decided to see what else appe had to offer. So I installed tiger in a VM on my PC. That didn't give me the experience I hoped, so I turned my desk top pc into a leopard hackin-tosh..
The hackintosh was great, gave me a real taste of macs.... Although it was quite unstable.

So I got a macbook unibody aluminum 2.4ghz as my first real mac.

Since then I oicked up another iPhone, Mac mini for a server and home media center.
Convinced my brother to get a new macbook pro for his first school laptop... And then we double teamed my cousin to convert.

Hoping to oick up a new Mac pro and 2 apple cinema displays next ( depending on new specs) ... But this wont be for a little while as I am currently broke while skne projects take off.

So, one small phone and some tinkering to get os x on my pc turned me into a crazy apple fan :)

I started somewhat late at this. My first Mac was my neighbor's hand me down Quadra. I had a house full of windows boxes and a few linux boxes but I enjoyed tinkering with the Quadra. It was primitive and couldn't even run OS 9. I bought a Mac Mini on the first day it was available and that started the landslide of moving my stuff off of Windows. I willed the Quadra to a kid who wanted it for tinkering and gradually phased out all the windows boxes and now have only Mac minis, a Macbook, an iPad and a few linux boxes. My daughter still has a windows pc mandated by her school and it is the last thing running MS software allowed under our roof. ...Besides the xbox.

After I had tinkered with an Amiga 500 for a while and the first contacts with the Unix systems at university I got myself a Powerbook 5300 and convinced my dad to get into computing with a Performa 6200CD. I had collected a bunch of floppy disks from magazines (there were already three dedicated to the Mac back then in Germany) and spend all of delivery day installing and trying out - and the night, and the day after that and then the night and... Knowing the Amiga and having seen a friend's Mac there was no way I would endure the ugly and inadequate attempts at building an OS happening at Redmond. I used the Powerbook until around 2002 for writing and reading on the couch, in fact I just pulled it out and played a few levels of Oxyd on it :D (and ,wow, does going from the 9.5" Powerbook back to the 15" MBP feel puzzling for a moment...).

From then on:
- A used Power Mac 6100/60 AV in 1998.
- A Power Mac 6500/300 also in 1998.
- A self built Pentium 4 Northwood PC with Windows XP in 2002.
- A last revision iBook G4 12" in 2005.
- A Santa Rosa Macbook Pro 15" in late 2007, which I'm writing this post on.

Well, I assume by 'Mac' you mean Apple Computer.

My mom was a high school librarian and brought home an Apple IIe when I was in elementary school. It was on loan from the school.

My very first Apple of my very own came in about 4th grade (1988): the amazing Apple IIgs. GS stands for graphics and sound and boy could that baby knock the socks off anything else on the block with that 16 color screen (hackable to "3200") and Ensoniq sound card. God I was in love.

Fast forward a few years... I became a hacker/gamer and hackers were MSDOS heads. I ran my own BBS off an extra PC and phone line in my mom's high school library, offering mostly European graphics demos.

It wasn't until 2005 that I made the switch to Mac (Powerbook G4) and have never looked back.
:apple::apple::apple:

My first Mac was also my first computer. About 1985. A Macintosh 512 Enhanced. It may have been the first Mac, but not the first Apple.

No hard drive. You used a floppy to load the OS, then removed it and loaded a second floppy with your app. Replaced a secretary and a typewriter and played Dark Castle. 9" B & W screen. Also maybe the first 'all in one.' 128kb RAM. The non 'enhanced' had only 64kb. Weird today to realize we are well in to gigabyte hard drives, not to mention tera byte flash drives

Later I had a Mac LC, then a G3... can't remember exactly. This was back in the day when PC's had no GUI, just DOS. Early Windows programs were awful.

Later when Windows evolved I built a PC just to see if I could. Ran Me and Xp if I recall. Finally, after 10 or so years without using a Mac, I've ordered an imac. Arrives this Friday. Can't wait. The new macs are the best looking computers in the business.

Mac 512, baby. Upgraded to a 20 Meg external drive. Wrote many papers for school on it. Damn, I miss it. RIP, old friend.

Bought a MacBook in early 2008 after playing around with my friends eMac. In early 2009, a friend found an old iBook G3 in a garage sale and he gave it to me. Wasn't working so I fixed it. Then a few months later my ex girlfriend gave me her old eMac that wasn't working but I managed to fix it too. Sold eMac to another friend in late 2009. Sold the iBook at the start of this year. Bought my mum a iBook G4 in May. Sold my MacBook to her to a couple of months ago and now I have a Core i5 MacBook Pro :) I really miss my old MacBook tho.

Only one...

I bought a refurb Macbook Pro March of 2010...

It's my baby! And I Love It!

I guess I'm a bit older than most of you.

My first Apple was an Apple ][, then an Apple ][+, then an Apple ][e.

As I recall, my first Mac was a 125K B&W beige, then a 512K, then a 512Ke, etc. on up to my present day MacBookPro, MacAir and iPad.

Likewise...my first Apple was an Apple ][+. Then a ][GS. I never liked the original Mac OS. So then I bought my first Color NeXTStation (with 21" color monitor") in 1992. So that was my first OS/X box and it was awesome for the time.

I was a Comp Sci major in college and supported many Apple hardware flavors in the computer labs but had no contact with them since.

I purchased my very first MBP last week - after 10 years of Windows and Unix machines (needed for the software development I did). And every 2 years those machines slowly died a slow, painful death.

I love everything about the MBP - from the OS to the hardware. Solid and beautiful. It truly is an amazing intersection between technology and art.

Glad to see a couple of other greybeards who have admitted to pre-Mac Apples.

My first Apple was a ][+. Motherboard revision "G", dated 1977. Had the full 64K of RAM.

Did some projects for work on it, which convinced management to start to invest in PCs for our office. After suffering with a $5K touchscreen HP150, I was able to swap it with a coworker for a Mac Plus.

At home, kept the ][+ until I replaced it with a Mac IIcx.

That got replaced with a 7600...I happened to have found the receipt for it the other day: $2900, as I had bumped the RAM up to 16MB...

Macintosh SE with a Floppy Drive and 9" Black and White Screen with a Whopping 20MB SCSI HDD.

1 MB of ram with MacPaint OS 6.7.1, Macintosh Keyboard and Mouse in the Platinum Grey Color.

What a great Machine, and never gave me trouble, until I upgraded to a Macintosh SE30 with the new CPU and everything else was much better.

This was my first Mac and computer my parents bought me. As a kid, I researched and shopped for a computer and chose this one.

Mac LC 475 with external CD-ROM drive.

If you thought macs are expensive today, this one cost over $4000 back then!

I should have Steve J.'s phone number, I'm sure he has mine.
Original 128K Mac-still have the neat bag that came with it and the Apple logo
Mac Plus
Fat Mac-I think that was an upgraded Mac Plus
Mac Se
Apple LaserWriter about $6K if memory serves
several assorted imacs

2MBPs using one – son said "as long as you aren't using this Dad" just before I sold the other one
Using Imac 5 now and having stretched its life, looking hard at Imac 27" 7
