Wow… that looks like the solution I was hoping for. Do you need to run a separate cable for "power" to the drive?

I guess this would also work in the 2010-2012 Mac Pros also.. right?

No, it does not require any additional power cables.

Yes, it works in 2008-2012 Mac Pros.

Thanks! Time to pull out the Credit Card!

Any tips for how to transfer everything from my Internal Boot Drive over to the SSD to make it the new Boot Drive? Would Carbon Copy Cloner work? Right now I have a dedicated boot drive in Bay One that is 1TB with 600-GB free space.

By "Quite a Tad" - how much are we talking about?

Do we know why? Is this something that the OS may remedy in the future or is it maybe some kind of SSD Drive or Card firmware issue?

It's about 10-15 seconds slower than it was on Mountain Lion, and it seems to be just Mavericks.

It's to be noted that a PCIe SSD is already 10 seconds slower on boot than a SATA one, as it takes longer for the system during boot to scan and recognise drives on PCIe bus.

Although I rarely restart, or do a cold boot these days unless I've been changing hardware or drivers.

Samsung EVO is the best SSD right now as price/performance. It costs much less than OCZ offerings and is as fast. Buying anything else is nonsense right now.

Just received my SamSung EVO and a Velocity 2x card today - getting ready to install.

The Velocity Solo Card instructions say to just use Disk Utility's RESTORE operation to clone my boot partition onto the SSD. Will this work or is it better to use Carbon Copy Cloner?

Also, what about software licenses like Adobe Creative Cloud, Astute Illustrator Plugins, etc.? Will all my applications work if cloned like this to another boot drive? I don't know if the licenses are attached to the "computer" somehow or to the "hard drive"? In other words, Do I need to deactivate ALL my apps, clone the drive and then reactivate all my apps?

Either will work. Just different methods of achieving the same goal.

All your apps will continue to work after cloning. You do not need to deactivate anything.

Got everything installed tonight and transferred over - so far so good.

I was not able to use the RESTORE function in Disk Utility the way the Apricorn instructions stated - it gave me an error saying there was not enough room to do a transfer? So I used CCC and everything copied over in about an hour with no problems.

Only had one issue so far, I have 2 Video cards that drive 3 monitors and a Wacom Tablet. The Mac saw all 3 monitors, but for some reason the Wacom tablet would not let me move the cursor to the far left screen. The tablet software again would "see" all 3 monitors, just would not engage on that 3rd monitor. Zapping the PRAM apparently solved that issue (maybe it got confused from a new PCI card being installed)?

Also Dropbox apparently noticed the change and had me re-register the software to my MacPro?

I have not noticed any "blistering" speed gains yet, but I will know more after I have some time working with the new SSD set-up. I tried launching several of my Adobe CC apps and the first time they launched they seemed to take about the same amount of time as before, but when I re-launched those apps they averaged about 11 seconds to load, which does seem a bit faster. Does that sound about right?

Thanks for all the guidance and assistance!
