An open Question to the Forum if you are considering a Pixel Phone ? What makes you want it ? What can it do better ? Than a 7 Plus or a Note 5 or a 7 Edge ?

Here's the Thing the 7 Plus has a great camera and has the Apple community to back it up Apple stores are an incalculable resource, And Apps on iOS will not let you down.

In my case owning a Samsung Note 5 Android looks Amazing and ALL Content does on the OLED 1440p Display and the Stylus is useful and at 5.7" it's a mini tablet.

Both devices have Marketable Features I fail to see what Beneficial Feature a Pixel Device offers ?

I'd buy one knowing i will get at least 2 more major OS versions and if design wasn't so ugly.

Hardwarewise, it doesn't have one. For software it has the Google Assistant as well as Android 7.1 I guess.

I'd want it for the larger screen alone. It's why I go with the Plus model iPhones over the regular ones. While it doesn't fit as nicely in my pocket, it makes a large difference for my day-to-day use and my poor eyes. (videos, pictures, social media, reading news, etc)

Stand out features for the Pixel line will be the Google Assistant and its system wide integration, timely updates, and maybe to a lesser extent, the unlimited full resolution uploads to Google Photos.

The allure of the XL will be its larger, higher resolution display, especially if you have any interest in Daydream VR. I'd wager battery life will probably be a bit better as well.

The battle for the next information age supremacy will be won by the company with the greatest AI. Most people don't grasp it yet since they're still used to the old way of interacting with their phone by physically poking at it but the future benchmark is how less often you have to touch your device to accomplish what you want. This is where the Pixel and Google's supremacy in AI rise above others like OpenAI (Tesla), IBM, Microsoft, Amazon and Facebook. And, if you're wondering why Apple isn't listed it's because it's not considered a competitor to others listed.

AI.

Let's be honest here, if you're interested in privacy, this phone has little or nothing to offer.
Actually being paranoid is a needless fear.

The Google hating fear mongers have gotten to you.

If however you're worried, dump your smartphone, quit Facebook, get off the internet NOW!

My Nexus 6P has been stellar.

I'll be enjoying the Pixel XL with Google Assistant very soon. Already preordered, it'll be fun.

So very true. AI and also integration with our other devices. That is where Apple can join the conversation.

Way to totally miss the point.

Basically, if you disable everything Google in the name of privacy, this phone is extremely overpriced.

And welcome to real life. Everything you put on Google/Apple/etc that's not encrypted is no longer yours.

From what I gather the ONLY thing it really has on other phones is the Google Assistant, which is just software baked into Nougat 7.1 and nothing else. There may be other things which I'm not aware of though, I'm not sure. It's not something I find particularly useful, but I know many others do love it.

Short answer: I have no idea. I guess I'll find out when I get it. I just count it as an adventure. Google's trying a new paradigm here to match what Apple offers. It could fall flat and they could abandon it, as their dreadful history indicates they probably will do. Whatever. I'm just experimenting, myself.

Long ramble:
It's kind of weird because the smaller IPhone 7 is mostly what I've been wanting since the IPhone 6 and 6 Plus were released. Meaning it finally has OIS in the smaller form factor. It has better battery life (I think) along with the option for a ugly but low profile battery case. It has 256 GBs of storage. Wow! It is water resistant. It's got beautiful screen colors.

But it's got yet more things missing that I've come to view as important. First thing missing is the higher resolution...and I have weird vision so yes, I can perceive it as grainy or dotted at times. My SE also has a low res display but it's a tiny display so I don't really mind it as much. I mind it more on a larger display, especially one that is so much improved in terms of color gamut as the 7's.

And the headphone jack is missing. I won't harp on all the reasons why I'm so annoyed. :D That's been covered in other threads. It's not a deal breaker but it's enough of a change on top of my already having to adapt to iOS 10 and retraining myself to adjust to the changes.

The other thing missing is something I only discovered from having a Samsung: IPhones record video with very flat monoaural sound. Samsungs use a more sensitive mic that give videos more life with immersive directional sound. You hear back the sounds as you did live, meaning you hear the directions all the sounds came from if you play back the video on a device that lets you hear stereo sound. It was a real revelation to me to discover what I've been missing all these years recording flat sound on an iPhone. It's not a total deal breaker because I can buy an external stereo mic. But that would be another thing to keep track of.

So it's kind of weird that I'm not jumping on the IPhone 7 bandwagon when it finally got so close to what I wanted the smaller iPhone to be. And I did come so close to getting one. It was a quirk of fate in that the AT&T account management crew went home just as my AT&T rep was trying to get me switched over from my Note 7 to the IPhone 7. I went home thought it all over and thought about how IOS 10 and I aren't getting along.

So I went to the Google site and text chatted with one of the reps and asked about the stereo sound recording capabilities of the Pixel for videos and she made an inquiry for me. While she waited for an answer, she made polite conversation rather than leave me hanging. And she said that yes, the Pixel could provide the feature I sought.

As to why I'm trying a Pixel when I already have an S7 Edge I'm cautiously becoming very fond of, well the S7 Edge is all glass. I've seen enough broken and chipped Edge phones now to know this is going to remain my pampered pocket computer that doesn't actually reside in my pockets.

The Pixel looks rugged. It's splash resistant which will suffice for surviving my outdoor landscaping and gardening hobby. In a proper case it will survive my life in my larger work jeans pockets. And it's sized just about right for that. Not as good as my SE, but close enough.

I anticipate popping my sim between my SE and the Pixel. I think the SE will see more use in the spring and summer when my pocket space shrinks a bit on those summer clothes.

Losing iMessage might be a problem because of how messages sometimes don't come to you even after you try to disassociate your phone number from iMessage. I'll have to work my way through that with my friends and family.

I'd go with Assistant, too. However, it's already available on the 6P and plenty of other devices with a bit of modding (not for the masses, I accept that).

Decided to root my 6P and see what's its all about. Problem is, now I've got Assistant on the 6P, it's less reason to get the Pixel.

I'm getting a Pixel because of the integrated Google services. That's the selling point for me. I'm sick and tired of my iPhone not working the way it is supposed to. For goodness sake, let me set my default apps. And over the past year I've gotten to where I use Siri a lot more--it would be really nice if she gave me accurate information. While I could get the aforementioned benefits from ANY Android phone--I am only interested in stock Android and timely updates.

End rant. That's my reasoning. :)

Signature feature is not having to deal with the frustration of Siri that just doesn't get it versus Google AI that works on the first try.

Siri

So wait. What features does the iPhone has that make it not over priced over the pixel?

Water resistance, OIS

Don't get me wrong, it's closer than it has been, but iPhone is still a better value for now. The initial consensus is that the Pixel is a good effort and a great first step, but it is almost certainly a first step.

Google assistant is already available through Xposed. This phone really is nothing stellar.I hate to say it but despite being a Android fan,I can never recommend this phone over an iPhone
