Google assistant is already available through Xposed. This phone really is nothing stellar.I hate to say it but despite being a Android fan,I can never recommend this phone over an iPhone
I'm skeptical of Android phones with software as "killer feature". Usually that advantage is temporary in the android environment.

Water resistance, OIS

Don't get me wrong, it's closer than it has been, but iPhone is still a better value for now. The initial consensus is that the Pixel is a good effort and a great first step, but it is almost certainly a first step.
What's weird, a year ago when persons said iPhone was over priced they got crucified. They lacked ois (smaller version), waterproof, wireless charging, fast charging, 2k display.

Now that the iPhone has some of these features it is being used against the pixel that doesnt.

If others say the iPhone is currently over priced because no 2k screen or wireless charging you and others would disagree. If I asked if Samsung s7 is a better value now would you agree?

My personal opinion the 600+ phones are over priced. Whether it be apple, Samsung, Google, etc. But people are buying them and they run a business so can't blame them.

Note: I don't think the s7 is a better value because it has more features than the iPhone. I guess it all depends on how each individual value those features. But a year ago it didn't seem iPhone users put much value in ois or waterproofing. So I am not sure why the sudden change of these features becoming a make or break feature.

As someone who didn't excuse Apple for a lack of those festures, I can't excuse Google either. Don't disagree with what you're saying, but it still doesn't excuse Google. They should have made it waterproof.

Well I know you're critical of both apple and android side of things. But its funny when the iPhone finally gets waterproofing when androids has had it for 4+ years it is now frown upon by apple users if a phone doesn't have waterproofing. When before it wasn't anything earth shattering.

Sadly, this stereotype too often is the truth. Many blindly loyal Apple fans only see something as valuable or worthwhile when it's now a feature they have.

I can certainly understand the criticism of the Pixel for not having a few features found on other flagship level phones. I personally don't find as much value in some of them (wireless charging and waterproofing) as other aspects like the software experience and how frequently it's updated. I'll certainly be critical of he lack of OIS if the camera performance doesn't match the competition because of its omission but doing so now is pointless since we have no real world experience. If it turns out to be every bit as good as other cameras with OIS, why does it matter?

The iPhone is definitely overpriced, no doubt about it. But Apple's customers will pay that price (including myself), it remains to be seen if Google can retain customers like that. Personally I doubt it, they can't even sell a significant amount of Nexus devices at far lower prices. With the absolutely only unique "feature" being google assistant, which currently is about the same thing as Google Now, I just can't see that really be a deciding factor.

But then again it's not like the huge bezels of the Pixel will look worse when compared to the huge bezels of the iPhone, so maybe in store consumers comparing the 2 will end up picking the pixel.

I know the audience per se are those interested in Google smartphone's so they can get them from that store but what Joe/Jane is going to look at the Pixels at Verizon or BB? Some spillage of folks not buying from Google directly but I just do not see a large customer base.

The Nexus 6 did nothing nor did the 6p at retailers, T-mobile carried the 6 and BB the 6p but pretty much that was it.

A year is a really long time in smartphone development. Fingerprint reader became an automatic feature in under a year. Sorry, that's the market Google is in. The Pixel is a nice first step, but it's not a serious iPhone replacement. Not yet.

Also, the GS7 runs Touchwiz. If the GS7 ran Google skinned or pure Android, it would be the best phone on the market. it doesn't.

Yeah I was trying to sugar coat it a bit instead of just saying it will flop.

My S7Edge is gorgeous and has all the bells and whistles and is a lot of fun and runs well so far.

But I'm still excited about the Pixel. I'm going to stick the VR Goggles on and have fun with it. Basically for me the next product year is all about getting a feel for the three ecosystems avalaible to me: Apple's, Samsung's and now Google's.

I hope Apple has something nice for 2017, because if it weren't for the fabulousness of my SE, and the promise of a nice IPad update, I'd have a hard time sticking with them after they got rid of the headphone jack so they could market those horrid airpod things that make our ears look like they're smoking cigarettes. They should just at least have made them black or silver. I don't object to the technology, itself, which actually sounds clever. It's the design, my goodness, they would make hottest woman or the coolest man look derpy. And I'm far from hot or cool and already preloaded with derp. I don't need accessories to accentuate my inherent derpyness. I just think they could have managed better than taking earbuds and cutting the cords off. Whew, hard work there.
