there is no way I could dial a phone with gloves on with my current cell phone, or any other phones that I have!

agreed. i dont' think this will be much different. already have to take gloves off to use pretty much any device requiring fingers.

Uh - It just occurred to me. What about those in colder climates? Gloves?

It's 10 degrees outside, you get into your car to make a call. Or outside Christmas shopping. Standing in line for a concert, etc. etc.. Will flicking the screen/scrolling for a number be possible with gloves? I mean, people are even speculating whether screen protectors would work. Umm..... I would hate to take my gloves off in nasty weather. Though I suppose it would be only for an instant. But still - might be inconvenient depending on what one's doing at the time.

Use your tongue/nose? ;)

I'm glad I live in Cali, no gloves for me.;)

I would like to know this too. Or in the rain? Or if your fingers are dirty/greasy/wet?

For me, the worry isn't the touch aspect of the keyboard, it's the width/size.
But I've gotten myself fully convinced it'll now or soon do widescreen mode for more extensive typeing. :)

careful. landscape typing wasn't built into the prototype iphones that were displayed following macworld. it remains to be seen whether it will be an option at all.

I know Steve Jobs said that keyboards don't work because the buttons and controls can't change. That's great, but what's the point when they don't offer 3rd party apps? I'm sure Apple could make an amazing keyboard that wasn't touchscreen.

He didn't only mean the on screen keyboard, he means that touch controls allows for actual graphical buttons with functions instead of accessing those same functions through some menu or remember that pressing 1 on this screen does this or that.

Dammit Jim, I'm a doctor, not a phone! Oh wait, wrong forum.

Why, just like with all other phones... you press your speed dial number and the Send key. Or just press Send when someone calls you, to answer them.

Ooops. iPhone is the only phone in the world that doesn't have dedicated phone keys. Guess you'll just have to wait until you get inside someplace. That's why its voice mail functions are so important.

Look, it was designed for use in California coffee shops with WiFi, okay? Get with the program :D

Except, since it's an iPod, you'll probably have your earbuds in anyway when you get a call, so just click the little microphone to answer. Or use your Bluetooth earpiece, which also has a physical click to answer.

Who holds their phone up to their heads anymore? Get with the program. ;)

A question -- How does the touch calibration work? Does it come calibrated? Do you have to calibrate it to your touch? Any info out there about this?
I'm sick of going to Touch Screen ATMs that take 15 touches to do anything and then you touch the wrong button because you're mad and just go crazy on the screen. Am I all alone on this?

I'm expecting Apple's to be better, but seeing as how I've never used one...hmmm dilemma.

The thing that bothers me about the iPhone, is the iPod controls.

I know we lost the click wheel, but I would have like to see a virtual click wheel.

In my opinion, the circular control system was the best ever. But this setup it now has feels so...mp3 playerish. Its disgusting.

multitouch has superceded clickwheel. Which other mp3 player has a multi-touch, or even a decent touchscreen control system that even comes close to the iPhone?

if it does require calibration (i'm guessing it won't), i figure it'll work something like the nintendo ds, where you press a series of boxes. it shouldn't be a concern.

Good point. But who's gonna wear an earpiece, instead of showing off their iPhone? :D

That brings up the same problem with the camera, though. No one's mentioned yet that there's not even a camera shutter button, so it must be via touch as well. I can see it now...

"I swear, it was a UFO and it landed right in front of me!!"

"Well, I see you have a phone with a camera lens, where's the pictures of it? Didn't you just hit the dedicated camera button and click away?"

"I tried to take a picture, but not even the Main Menu button would work. I couldn't get the darned thing to even turn on!!"

Note: previous released info hints that the main menu button is capacitive like the screen. It's not a push button, as you can tell from videos. So it shouldn't work either with gloves.

I think it will work just fine. If there are any problems they will make improvements in the future. Eventually, if not now, I believe it will work fine and, everyone will look back at this and laugh because some don't think it will work at all.

The iPhone is thinner than the BlackJack if they were to add a sliding keyboard it would probably be the same size as the BlackJack.

The difference in the BlackJack and iPhone is very small, no keyboard could be that thin.

The iPhone is 11.6MM, the BlackJack is 11.7....if Apple added a keyboard, the iPhone would be thicker then BlackJack.

I'm amazed on how thin the iPhone is...I got a BlackJack because it so thin, and a smartphone. I plan to use both with my iPhone, and thought the BlackJack would be the smaller of the too
