Part of me wonders if they plan a smaller XC later (~5.1”, so smaller than a X but larger than the SE) so they reserved the name.
If they do release a sub 5.8 then that should’ve been XE if it has face recognition and SE without.

Refurbished. Apple put together the iPhone X and X plus leftovers and cretated a new "budget" phone off them.

I think it's supposed to be Liquid Retina, but I honestly think that's marketing speak and internally the real reason is:

it's less advanced than the XS, and R comes before S in the alphabet. The S is the next step after the R.

I’m confused... why didn’t they name XC? I know marketing it isn’t logical to name it after a less than stellar nominer but still...

R for Regular?

I’m almost inclined to say it should’ve been called... XB, B for basic. Or XP, P for peasant.

Lmao

Remanufactured? Revolutionary?

They talked about the LCD panel during the keynote being a ‘liquid retina’ display, which I can only imagine the ‘R’ stands for Liquid Retina.

Which perhaps apple could a labeled the iPhone instead of XR, ‘LR’? Just a theory.

R is literally the letter before S. Things that come before something else usually aren't as advanced as the next thing. iPhone 8 was the next step, the more advanced product after iPhone 7. iPhone XS is the next step, the more advanced product after XR.

Ummm....
But it’s just below the X as well, which also has dual cameras & OLED.
