I got my iPhone SE.2 right before Covid, and I was glad to have Touch ID while wearing a mask (and yes I know Face ID was modded to look more at the eyes, soon after). It didn’t bother me.
I’m also old enough to remember having to start Dad’s Allis-Chalmers with the crank at the front of the tractor, because the battery was too weak when eastern South Dakota hit -10º F. To read all these “Eww-eww-I-don’t-wanna-have-to-touch-a-button” posts, OMGWTFBBQ.

And Get Off my lawn, dammit! :p

Crank? I wish we had a crank! We had to use our bare fingers! And when they froze off, we had to use our teeth! (reference - Monty Python Four Yorkshiremen)

For whatever reason people don't like TouchID, but as long as there is an option, i’ll always choose it over FaceID.

I wouldn't imagine it's a technical limitation more so Apple wanting to keep the price down. If they add in Face ID they would have to charge several hundreds of pounds more. They want an entry level iPad in their line up.

I used to be in that camp until i started using faceID.

I'm a convert. It truly feels like magic to have the device just unlock when i pick it up and look at it. I really miss it when using my ipad air. Macbook not so much as i have unlock with watch on that, but the ipad can't make use of that (yet?).

I think it's manageable on the iPad mini because of the size. However, I would still prefer Face ID. On my iPad Pro Face ID is really nice. I think it would be awkward having to find the power button all the time. Unlocking my Mac with my Apple Watch has always worked intermittently for me. Same thing since the feature debuted. It works for a while and then it stops. So sometimes I have to resort to using Touch ID.

Pretty much same experience, but most of the time i'm reaching for the keyboard anyway (i never use an external keyboard with it) so its not so much of a distraction on the macbook if watch does not unlock.

Agreed on ipad mini (gf has one), but i really do have a little buyers remorse not stepping to the 11" Pro instead of the Air this time around. I am a bit disappointed with the Air's screen and didn't think i'd miss faceid as much as i do.

I don't care about the cameras on the Pro, and figured if i wanted to go pro i'd go for the 12.9 but that's just too big a leap and i had to cut the budget off somewhere (otherwise where does it end, Apple are masters of the "just a little bit more pain than you want for the feature set" pricing structure). Until the 12.9" pro can properly replace a macbook, i'm not spending about 2 grand aussie on a tablet!
