The Apple Store
Looking at the rumored feature set this year, it seems like a pretty minor jump from the 15 to the 16. Just looking at the last few years, there have still been features meaningful enough for me to upgrade.

13 Pro- 120hz screen, much bigger camera sensor, smaller notch
14 Pro - Always On display, 48mp main camera, Dynamic Island
15 pro - lighter design, usb c, action button

I can’t think of a headlining feature this year that would compel me to upgrade. It seems the biggest changes are from Apple Intelligence, which the 15 pro has. Beyond that it seems like slightly larger display and the capture button are the only major changes for the pro models (I guess also the longer telephoto in the smaller pro). This honestly feels like the X -> XS upgrade (which was the only one I regret doing). I know I’m a minority that still upgrades their phones yearly but just wondering if anyone else has similar feelings?

I do think it’s getting more and more iterative, they’re all about lowering the “barrier of entry” for Apple Intelligence this year but other than that it’s basically faster with a better camera from the outside

* Built in taser?

Name of the event will be "Electric Boogie" or "Watts up?"

I’m right there with you. I upgraded to the XS and it was fine, but nothing groundbreaking. The rumored features this year do look like more of an incremental upgrade—like, a slightly bigger screen and a new capture button. If you’re satisfied with your 15 Pro, it might be worth holding off this year and seeing what comes next. I’m also one of those people who upgrades every year, but this time it doesn’t feel like there’s enough to make it worth it.

Everyone is different. Let's actually see the 16s (and pricing) before we decide what is or is not value add for each of us.

I wasn't going to upgrade and still likely won't but I am actually thinking of going back down to the regular Pro, non-Max size. Don't care about the extras of the camera or battery life as I am always close to a charger if needed. Really like the portability of the smaller size and the new Pro is 6.3" so not giving up too much screen real-estate.

How did Apple advertise iPhone 12 Pro Max?

How about iPhone 14/Plus?

Given iPhone 16 Pro/Max will have the largest displays ever on iPhone, it's pretty obvious how Apple will sell them. Larger displays are almost universally liked. They'll obviously pair that with AI.

  • 11 Pro - 3rd camera [ultrawide], bigger battery [end of 3D Touch]
  • 12 Pro - frame redesign, ProRAW, MagSafe, 5G [smaller battery for whatever reason]
  • 13 Pro - 120Hz refresh rate that could go as low as 10Hz [ProMotion], 1080p 30fps Cinematic mode, 3x telephoto, ProRes video
  • 14 Pro - 120 Hz refresh rate that could go as low as 1Hz [ProMotion with Always On Display] 48MP main sensor, Dynamic Island, 2x optical quality zoom, 4K 30fps Cinematic mode, Action mode [OIS + EIS]
  • 15 Pro - Titanium frame, USB Type C 3.0, 4K 60fps Cinematic mode when recording on external media

@UKapple73 It's 0.2 inches. That's 5mm or 0.5 centimeters. ;)

And that's exactely the size increase as it was from 11 Pro Max (6.5 inches) to 12 Pro Max (6.7 inches):

Yes my bad. Issue of us Brits always dealing in mm lol
Even so I think it’s less than a 3% increase so not worthy of a headline feature as it’s barely noticeable to most

I honestly see this as a negative. The 15 Pro is big enough, honestly the 11 Pro was the perfect screen size, but I eventually adapted to 6.1, I don't know how much bigger the screens can go without being completely unusable one handed.

Totally agree. The larger displays will actually keep me away from these phones. Current displays of Plus and Max are already too big for my pocket.

Was anyone asking for larger displays? Who wants to carry around these huge phones?
I don't know, apparently a lot of people on this planet prefer carrying a bathroom tile in their pocket. It's ridiculous.
The only way it's comfortable to sit down with my 14 Pro in my pocket is when it's caseless, even that is cutting it close.

Maybe it would become less of a problem if I lacked any sort of self-discipline to put my phone away and notice life happening. Then it'd just be constantly glued to my hands and the pocketability aspect becomes moot??

I have been asking for an increase from 6.1". I have felt that 6.1" was a little too small so the 6.3" should be great. What I didn't ask for was the flat sides, we need rounded sides again.

Apple needs to offer like six different phones between all the sizes and sides. It is impossible for any company to make all their customers happy with limited choices like we have now.
