I find most cuts I get are due to the leading edges of something that isn't too kind for soft human flesh.

In a coffee shop.
My daughter put bandaids on (and lamented) everything from paper cuts to mosquito bites. She cracked me up.

She has my full sympathy on the topic of mosquito bites.

This is one of those - ah, asymmetrical - relationships, as far as I am concerned: Namely, they love me and I hate them.

And worse, mosquito bites trigger a violent allergic reaction from me - in the form of massive boils, which manage to be that disquieting combination of both itchy and sore.

Environmental friendliness, awareness and empathy be damned, on this occasion: DDT, here I come.

I am not allergic but find those bugs extremely annoying. In lieu of sprays, flamethrowers or tactical nuclear weapons I wonder if those electric bug zapping lamps really do work or not?

Mosquitoes love her too, and she puffs up like Fuji from their bite. And somehow I was always to blame for them. Lol! I was on-call 24/7 to dash into her bedroom for mosquito patrol.

They do. They're excellent. The "zzzp" noise you'll hear in the summer is most satisfying knowing they just burnt to a crisp and only a moment ago they were whizzing around.

While the "zzzp" sound is deeply satisfying at a primeval level, that high pitched whine is one of the most evil sounds I know.

However, I must say that citronella works very well in deterring and discouraging the winged horrors - there is a superb British company called Al Fresco that produces entirely natural and organic citronella products, (designed to discourage winged visitors) and, in recent years, I have only been attacked by the airborne menaces if I forgot to slather myself with their stuff.

(One evening last year, on a rare day off, hence attired in a t-shirt but no jacket, sitting on the terrace, relaxing, admiring the views of the Indian Ocean, sipping beer with UN colleagues who had called in to visit and chat and exchange thoughts, as daylight crept into a velvet twilight, I decided to stay put sipping beer rather than return to my room to take sensible precautions. Yes, the menaces found me.)

Can't say I've ever heard whine. You're one of few people who's ever brought it up. Citronella isn't bad, but it doesn't work as well. I'd say it works 60-70% of the time. The smell isn't bad at all. I like it funny enough. Very much like lemon verbana.

Cook a burger well? Not a chance! I'd rather forego eating one than treat a burger that way.

A good (good beef) crisp on the outside well done burger can be quite good with the right condiments, toppings, bun etc....

Yep sure can, I'm no hater though I love a good med rare burger too. ;)
