Note 3 here.

Have never run out of battery during the day, usually have 35% or more left when going to bed in the evening. I charge every night, but think it would easily last to at least lunchtime the next day if I did not charge it.

Surprisingly my voice calls on the Xiaomi doesn't last long even on 2G networks while GSMArena rated it 13 hrs talk time on 3G. I noticed when I had a 6 min 2G call, it killed 18% and my battery was 2% worse after an 1 hr SOT from a full charge. My voice calls might only last 5-6 hrs. I will test it turning 3G on while mobile data is off. I doubt it will make any huge difference.

Of course dual wielding phones can remedy all that. I also agree with Jon Rettinger who also uses a OnePlus One and thinks it has the best battery life he ever had on a smartphone (11 hr SOT). I tend to charge my phone every night anyway whether from 1% to 60%. As long as a phone can last ALL DAY without me charging up during mid-afternoons.

For my bare minimum, it should be 8 hrs SOT where I will find it respectable which is around the same time as a typical work day. If I am awake 16 hrs a day, I should hope the 16 hrs get split to work and my smartphone. The only smartphones that ever gave me 8 hrs SOT without breaking a sweat was the iPhone 4 & Mi 3. Almost every other smartphone I owned lasted 4-5 hrs SOT and needed a quick charge each day.

The BEST VALUE AND BATTERY COMBO for 2014 is OnePlus One and Sony Xperia Z3 Compact. That is a potential 25+ hr SOT between them and buying both (sub-$400) can cost as much as one iPhone 6. It is very most complementary to each other. Better than any Samsung Galaxy S5/Note 4, HTC One M8, iPhone 6/6 Plus, or Nexus 6 mix and match combo. The value and battery life is all there as well as big & small.

How do you manage two phones? I also have two phones but one strictly stays at home...

I charge my Xperia Z3 Compact every 2 or 3 days - easily the best battery life I've ever had on a mobile.

Here's my Note 4 purposely overused to drain from full to cycle the battery.

1. This is the dual-sim N9100 Chinese version so two signals always on.

2. The battery is 3,000mAh rather than 3,220mAh in the single SIM variants (7% less).

3. Almost exclusively on 4G and H+.

4. Bluetooth on and paired to my Vivosmart for notifications and sync.

5. No Google Play Services on this model and I'm not rooted (yet). I get apps from Samsung and Amazon app stores instead at the moment.

For a mix of internet, email, tapatalk, calls and video, the results are very good.

7h 50m SOT would easily last me two days of my normal use. Outclassing my OPO by 30 minutes despite a smaller battery, QHD screen and dual SIMs.

One great way to save battery life and maximize SOT is reading e-books! One of the LEAST stressful uses on battery life is reading offline and writing in your notes.

The other day I got an all-time record on the M7 at 9 hrs SOT just by using Wattpad all day. Mi 3 can hit 16 hrs SOT if I tried but I started using it for Wi-Fi and calls. I have 9 hrs SOT right now with still 42% left. I read maybe 6 hrs which drained it down to 65%. Also I tend to keep battery saving on and airplane mode with mostly 25/40% brightness. You can truly save battery life and increase SOT if you do alot of reading e-books using Wattpad or articles using Pocket throughout your day.

Out of the 14 different Android phones I have owned over the past 5 + years, this OnePlus One is hands down the battery champion marathon winner :)

8h Screen On time  And over a 1 whole day of heavy use of total battery time.

When I started out with my Moto X I was pretty impressed with the battery. It would get me through a full day most of the time. Now however I find myself having to charge by mid afternoon-late afternoon if I want to make it to bedtime 12pm. And this is with light-moderate usage of texting and checking social media throughout the day. Absolutely no gaming and very seldom any video. Battery life over LTE is also atrocious but as long as I stay on wifi (when I can) it usually does ok. Eyeballing the Droid Turbo (Maxx) or Z3 Compact as my next phone.

My Xiaomi Mi 3 personal record or any smartphone I owned for that matter...

^^ That was mostly reading Console Wars by Blake J. Harris in ePub form. But I did a few calls, text, and Wi-Fi. No airplanes mode and between 25%/40% brightness.

But typically it can range anywhere between 5 hrs - 9 hrs SOT. If I was reading an e-book even for an hour or two, it can balloon to 10+ hrs very easily. I think e-book reader apps and Pocket are the true battery saver apps. Each hour of reading only eats up less than 10% for both of my phones.
