If you want wireless, go with wireless optical, like the LX7. Avoid wireless laser as it's just not mature yet. Of course, if you're photoshopping or gaming or such then wired is still the way to go. Personally I have both and just plug in the wired one when I need it...

That's good info MikeTheC. I didn't know that about the BT devices. Maybe I'll give a corded, laser Logitech a whirl. IO'd love to have better tracking than my old optical, though that isn't that bad, truth be told.

Have you not had any issues with the supplied Logitech software?

I second the Microsoft vote, they really do make excellent input devices. :D

I have Logitech's software installed at present, and it hasn't been causing me any problems, but generally I don't install anyone's software because, well, most of the time I only have two-button mice, Mac OS X automatically supports the scroll wheel, and a lot of times (especially on the Mac, not sure why it's more of an issue here) the manufacturer's tracking settings are pure crap.

Now, it's funny, because as I type this I've got my PB on my dining room table, with my Microsoft WNLM 6000 up and running, and I have their fugly USB dongle sticking out the other side of my laptop. Nevertheless...

Thanks, Mike. On your recommendation, I picked up an MX400 today and will install it when I get home. I'm just going just plug it in and use it. Hopefully, I'll get full functionality to include the front and back web browser buttons, which I use a lot. If not I'll try the most current Logitech software and see what happens. I do love the way it feels in my hand and look forward to superior tracking.

Thanks again.

A 4-year-old MS Wheel Mouse Optical (not to be confused with the awful Basic Optical Mouse).

Me too. The Mighty Mouse is a pile of garbage.

No offense to people who use the MM, but you really have to WANT to like it to stick with it. There are so many better options out there.

Honestly I haven't owned a mouse since I've bought this laptop almost two years ago, so I would almost take anything right now! I may just give the MM a shot for a week or two and then go mouse shopping if need be. Thanks for all the input from everyone. This is by far one of the best forums around.

Want an odd dissenting opinion? It all depends on what you need.

At work I use an Expert Mouse. Sooo much better than a regular mouse. Faster, more options, better scroll wheel, no carpal tunnel worries. (it's a trackball from Kensington) And on a Mac, the software actually works.

My other computer is supposed to be an HT/server Mini, although I use it for other crap, too. Here I have a Gyration Ultra. It isn't all that great, battery life is weak (it's wireless, not BT), it jumps around occasionally like a flaky Dell trackpad. But I can use it in the air in my HT! Winner.

So you all think that I should give the MM a shot before purchasing a new mouse? I was thinking about getting the wireless MM, but didn't want to put $20 into something I may or may not like. I keep hearing all the bad things about it, and I've grown quite fond to right-clicking.

I ordered the wireless MM. The only "complaint" I have is that by default (in Preferences) the left and right mouse buttons are assigned to do the same thing. So I thought my mouse was defective, because the 'right' click didn't do anything different from a 'left' click. Go to System Preferences, select the mouse, then make the right mouse button a 'secondary' button.

Although it doesn't look like an MS mouse (or Logitech, for that matter) and although you can't "see" the left and right mouse buttons, I have had no trouble with my mouse after setting it up in preferences. The scroll button in the center works fine, the left and right mouse buttons work properly, and I have had no trouble with the bluetooth connection.

In the past, with Windows PC machines, I preferred Logitech mice. I have no trouble recommending the Mighty Mouse now. I have only been an IMac user for 3 weeks, but the mouse has not been something I have had to think about. And for me, when something works so well that I don't even think about it while I am using it that speaks highly of how well it is doing its job.

I've been messing around with the MX400 for most of the evening and it is indeed very good. The tracking is far better than my old MS optical mouse and the quality and feel of the device is top notch. With the uber high resolution of my 24" screen, I definitely need precise cursor control.

Instead of installing the software on the provided disc, which states on it that it's for Windows, I went to Logitech's website and downloaded the Control Center for Mac from there and haven't had any issues with performance, and I also have full functionality. Some have reported issues with Logitech mice on Mac's, but so far so good here.

I'm happy with it and it simply blows the Mighty Mouse out of the water.

I just got the wireless mighty mouse today. Its my first wireless mouse. How long can I expect the batteries to last? Can I use rechargable batteries?

Bluetooth Logitech V470 Laser Mouse

Have you guys checked out this sucker yet?

According to the site, it hasn't been released yet. But I did a quick search at Amazon Tuesday night and the mouse is sitting right here waiting for my Macbook Pro to get here, which won't be here 'til next week (urgh). Sucks that I got the mouse before I got the friggin notebook! Haha

But I'll let you know how it works out as soon as my macbook pro gets here. The box that it came in says "Designed for Mac" by the way. And it uses BLUETOOTH! :D

I'm using the wired MM that came with my iMac. Hated it at first, then installed SteerMouse (a free download) and now I love it. SteerMouse increases the mouse's (mices??) sensitivity so that I can traverse my 24" screen without picking the mouse up. I had a Logitech G7 laser gaming mouse on my PC and loved it's super sensitivity.

Rich

Yea, it's only fair to give the included MM shot...and it's totally understandable when you then shoot your Mighty Mouse....repeatedly.

I work between an iMac 24" and a macbook and the mighty mouse super grossed me out and I wanted to love it. I currently am using a razer pro 1.6 mac mouse in white and it is amazing.

I have the razor mouse too, but I find myself going back to the wired MM. I just like the small size of the scrollwheel.

I have the mighty mouse and I love it, all except for when the scroll wheel stops working.

I use a Kensington Expert Mouse (trackball). Pricy, but the best "mouse" for me; the standard mice start bothering my wrist if I have to use them for too long.

I did keep the mouse that came with my iMac, and use that with my Macbook when I'm traveling (I hate using the keypad).

I have a desktop Mac, with which I use a so-called "unbreakable" mouse. It really is quite tough, and has withstood repeated droppings, accidental spills, and even being bashed into the desk in frustration.:p

On my portable Mac I just use the built-in trackpad.
