What kind of phone do you have and do you agreed with the Samsung v. Apple verdict?

I would like to know the view of members here. I want to know if you agree or disagree with the verdict of the trial and please list what phone you currently use (be it Samsung, Apple, HTC, etc.)

I just want to know if its fanboyism (or fangirlism), if you genuanly don't agree with the case, or you just side wuth one or the other due to the phone you use.

I use a Samsung phone, I am admittedly an Android fanboy, but not so hardcore that I want all iPhones to die. I do not agree with the case to begin with and absolutely disagree with the verdict.

If there is a thread about this somewhere else, by all means delete this!

I change phones very frequently.
Currently I have samsung note.
But came from a nokia and prior to that an iphone.
I will most likely be moving on to the new iphone when it's out.

I think Samsung did copy.
And I was expecting Apple to come out better off than Samsung in the end but I was surprised with the verdict because I was expecting prior art to invalidate some of Apple's patents.

I agree with the verdict. In fact the first thing I said the day I got my Skyrocket was, "WOW, this looks like the iPhone, but only bigger!" To the point that the next time I did pick up my iPhone I tried hitting the settings, back, and search buttons.

I have an iPhone 4s and a Samsung Galaxy Nexus. For mobile devices, I prefer Android. For desktops and laptops, I prefer Apple products. In terms of cloud services/email, I prefer Google over iCloud.

I fully agree with the verdict as Samsung's flavor of Android was a complete ripoff of iOS. Android is beautiful in its vanilla flavor and Samsung's Touchwhiz implementation was totally unnecessary. They deserve the $1B fine.

Software:
I think Samsung DID make customisations to Android to mimic a more iOS like experience.

Things like the bounce/snapback in lists (Gingerbread added the light pulse when you got to the end of a list, Samsung removed that and added the bounce feature).
Some iconography had similarities.
The i9000 TouchWiz UI added the background squares to all launcher icons in the app drawer.

Hardware:
I do have disagreements on the designs of Samsung's hardware on some of the handsets. Things like the Droid Charge are worlds apart from Apple's designs so that result did surprise me.

Stock Android has evolved into a completely different beast with its own iconography, style (Holo theme) and features that it's a shame to see OEMs modify it in what seems at times to be an attempt to mimic Apple.

I currently use a 4S but am buying the SGS3.

Think personally the court case was lunacy. From a UK POV each day on the news someone/something sues someone/something else in the states. Yes the first SGS was a bit 3G looking but there's only so much you can do with candy bar phones. Why do people vehemently defend the company that provides their phone? Unless you have shares/stocks then it really shouldn't bother you.

It has took the shine off Apple for me. It just looks like the big Money corp just trying to swallow up smaller fish (competition)

Besides why do people care so much about the companies? They both do nice tech but to be pro Apple or pro Samsung seems ridiculous. The companies don't care about you as an individual just your cash and your ignorance.

I have an LG Dare.

I am not sure which way I think the case should have been decided or if there should have been a case at all. I'm not familiar enough with those types of situations.

Having said that, the decision sounded like it was going to be a crapshoot either way. The foreman of the jury who has come out certainly sounds confident in his thinking, which is not the first quality I'd look for in a good thinker.

I also don't agree with Tim Cook's response to their win. It struck me as hagiographic.

I have a galaxy S3 and think its obvious Samsung copied Apple in a number of ways.

I think the white/black rectangle with rounded corner patents should be declared invalid as they're too general.

The elastic over scroll infringement was a valid one. Google created a glow over scroll effect that didn't infringe; why couldn't Samsung do the same?

At the moment I don't know if the result is a good thing or not. I think Samsung has shown it can be innovative with some of the features in the S3 (smart alert, smart stay, direct call), so hopefully this will push them to use their own ideas more often.

iP4S: is also excellent, but lacks speed of use.

Since I use a smartphone constantly throughout the day while traveling, speed of use is critical. I handle a high volume of email, the wider larger display of the S III allows for faster, error free input, especially since I use landscape mode.

When one uses a smartphone as much as I do, the little differences & advancements of the SGS III really add up to a fantastic experience.

Carrying an extra battery keeps me working throughout a 13 hr flight to Japan. As it is, the stock battery already outlasts my iP4S, something my last years phones could not do.


Verdict: I strongly disagree.

Not because they ruled in favor of Apple.

But rather because I believe they failed to deliberate long enough to take everything into consideration. There were many factors involved to be read & evaluated, too little time was spent. Therefore I feel they failed.

Iphone 4S, Previous owner of several android phones, none of which were samsungs.

I think its obvious to most people that samsung did copy apple before.
Their newer products like the S3 are different though so in the end i think samsung will take the hit but be fine for the future.

I think that is an excellent post. I agree, but better written than I could have managed.

I have a 4S and I would abuse the crap out of a broken system if it increased my companies profits while decreasing the competitors. I feel sometimes they go over the top but that's from a personal stand point not business. Business is business.

I'd be willing to bet there are more upset fans then lawyers and employees of Apple/Samsung. They are probably going out to fancy dinners after these court cases meanwhile it's impossible for us to talk about online with many getting truly upset/angry.

I am currently using a S3. Have no intentions to change it atm.

As far as the case rulings went.... I am very unsure.

Firstly: It was in Apple's hometown, American Company, American court system. Seems very favorable to Apple.

Secondly: The jury was not completely clear on the patent infringements etc until ONE of the jurors who had patents submitted of his own, explained it all to them how it works. To me, it makes me wonder if people are influenced by someone's point of view (who may or may not be biased based on his own experiences) to the point that they will take that person's word for fact.

Rather than seeking clarification from the Judge, they went on one engineer's word (who may or may not have been biased).

That being said, I believe that some of the findings were valid:

Google warning Samsung.
Apple offering licencing to Samsung, them refusing.
Some of the inter office emails on Samsung's behalf.

What I wonder is:

ARE ALL OF THE PATENTS INCLUDING FORM FACTOR ........valid.

Some I can see, but do not some of them restrict the general requirement for usability of that type of device?

Now saying, this. This real company Apple should be going after is Google. Google is the one who's really got the copyright infringement. Google clearly changed Android's UI after seeing the iPhone in Jan 2007. The first prototype Android device was based on the blackberry OS.

Going after Samsung will not slow down Android's mass appeal. You need to go for the heart and that means going after Google. Taking down Samsung only means taking down one limb. Android will still live to fight another day.

You want Apple to destroy the competition? That is crazy. That will just mean Apple can be complacent and have a monopoly on the smartphone industry. Prices will go up higher still and they'll trickle out smaller updates than they already do.

I have both a S3 and 4s. There's very little doubt in my mind the blow will be much less when the appeals process goes through. It's clear the jury was a collective group of idiots led by a "patent holder himself", so you know he was the proverbial ****** who thinks he knows everything, there's always one in a group.
