I was also wondering what folks are using to protect the superdrive. Wish they made a neoprene pouch for that too 6x6 would work

Wow that is a nice bag but $170 is a lot even for this expensive computer

This is the one I'm using and it does come with a pouch for the drive. The pocket/pouch is removable.

Not sure what the other poster meant about "becoming available." This one has been available for awhile now.

Do you carry around your superdrive that much? Other than installs I barely ever use a CD/DVD drive.

Incipio Sleeve at all times. I often tuck that into a leather shoulder bag.

I think Waterfield also makes MacBook Air sleeves with a smaller footprint...

This one. The build quality is excellent. It mainly protects against scratches, although it does have a little padding at the bottom for bumps. For the MBA, I prefer it to their classic SleeveCase because it adds much less bulk and looks more minimal.

I'm using a small Timbuk2 laptop messenger because I wasn't very fond of the new Timbu2 commute. I love the bag, but I do have some issues. The dimensions of the small bag's laptop sleeve work for the length and height of the Air, but not the depth. I easily have 3/4s of an inch to an inch of extra space that could be used for the regular pocket. The laptop sleeve was clearly made for much thicker 13"-15" laptops. I suppose I could use a thin sleeve for double protection but haven't gotten around to it.

Regardless, I habitually carry a paperback, moleskine and small items with me regularly. There's definitely enough room for the superdrive and the Air's power supply if needed.

At first I thought the Incase was just a run of the mill case and I could find something better, but in the end I got one and love it.

Is there something like the aluminum bag that a user posted (the secret agent one) but in the form of a smaller enclosure, case, not a bag per se, I am looking for something that will be less of the merely aesthetically pleasing, light padding mba covers, but an actual enclosur that will protect from bumbs, hitting things etc.

I prefer to use my actual bag than a computer specific one and thus I want something strong to put the air in and not worry about it rubbing or hitting abrasive material or drops of the bag.... Do the polyurethene sleeves offer any impact protect other than just the scratch protection?

Hands down the best bag around for the MBA (and I've been through many notebook bags in general) is this Wenger compu-folio.

If you take out their spiral notebook thing you can put your own in. It holds the Air nice and snug and there are reports that there's enough room for a magsafe, a 15" MBP and an Air (just to give you an idea of the size). ;)

Can you really fit a MBP in it? Because that defeats the purpose of a slim notebook/portfolio/MBA case.

For those who got the waterfield case which one did you get? With or without the flp for the sleeve case?

Thanks

I just got this bag for work. It fits really well.

http://www.kennethcole.com/product/...&cp=3075215.3075278.3075281&parentPage=family

I got it for $175-44% one day sale that they kept on having over the past few months.

You're the second person to mention that bag, and I love the look.

Is there any padding for the MBA? How's the fit? Room for anything else?

The site you link to doesn't really provide much information on the bag's features, at least they aren't overly clear to me.

Thanks!

The fit is perfect (where the zipper part is)...if I wanted I could fit a few papers/folders as well. There are actually a few additional areas where you can put stuff like accessories. However, I like to keep it as thin as possible.
I also like how there is a back pocket so I can throw my my newspaper in on the subway. One note is that the strap doesn't keep the bag on my arm (it'll just slide off), it is meant to be worn over your shoulder across your chest (like a messenger bag) - which I'm used to now. Also, unlike many "portfolio bags", there is no handle, no technically it can be helf under your arm or like a messenger.

There is just a little padding, probably not meant for a notebook. I'm fine with it as I'm not going to throw the bag or sit on it, but if you're anal, there is probably enough room for a neopreme folder.

Go to a store and check it out. Kenneth Cole is definitely made in China, so I wouldn't spend over $100 on it (wait for another sale!).

We use the Oakley vertical bag and an InCase neoprene sleeve.

She travels with it, and the bag works very well for her. One of the pockets holds the SuperDrive, and there is a clip for the lanyard on her 3g USB modem. Plenty of room for all her other junk she travels with.
