I thought it'd be interesting to find out what desktops all of you have owned. Here are mine

PowerMac G3 1,1 400mhz

PowerMac G4 3,5 (Quicksilver DP) 800mhz upgraded to Newertech 1.8 GHz dual 7447A snd newer graphics but I've slept since then. Weren't those AGP?

PowerMac G5 7,3 2.0ghz DP upgraded ram but forgot how much. (Super solid machine that is still running today! How is that possible?)

iMac "Core 2 Duo" 2.33 20-Inch (late 2006) upgrade ram and SSD (Still operational as a print server.)

iMac "Core 2 Duo" 3.06 27-Inch (late 2009) upgraded to 24gb of ram and dual SSD(Also still running but as an internet machine and print server. Guess that's to be expected.)

Mac Pro 4,1 2.66ghz dp upraded to dual X5690, NVMe, 12tb of hdd, 36gb of ram and an RX480.

My 4,1 got more upgrades than any other Mac and has lasted, on a professional level, for what seems like forever. It was the most costly at first but damn this thing has lasted a long, long time as a work machine.

Only the Mac Pro 4,1. Bought directly from Apple back in 2009, Quad 2.66GHz, 3GB RAM HD4870. Now upgraded as per my signature.

Well, I started with the Apple SE (which I still own), then I think I have had every variation of Quadra/Performa even with the funky A4 portrait monitor, Power Macintosh 5200 (or was it 5300?), Power Macintosh G3, Power Mac G4 (hell, can't remember all the old school models), eMac with DVD drive, Power Mac G5, Mac Pro 2006, iMac 24" (7,1), Mac Pro 2008 and now Mac Pro 2009 and iMac 5K (2014 model).

The 1990s were crazy. If only I had bought stock instead of machines :p

iMac G3 500 Indigo;

Powermac G5 1.8 DP, upgraded to Ati X800XT and 7GB Ram, that was my Graduation Gift. It is still running today;

Mac Mini Early 2009, Core 2 Duo 2.0 with nvidia 9400, great machine and Low Power Consumption;

Mac Pro 5.1 2012, upgraded to single X5690, now waiting for a new PSU.

Power Mac 7200
Beige G3/300
G4 1.25 MDD
Mac Mini 2009 (still have 2 of them but don't use them anymore)
Mac Pro 1,1 (which I upgraded to 2,1, now my wife's)
Macbook Air (my daughter's)
Mac Pro 5,1 (mid-2012)...still going strong :)

First Mac desktop at home was the Power Macintosh 6500 225Mhz my mom bought new in 1997. I didn’t have one until 2014 when I got a 2012 Mac mini 2.3Ghz i7. After that I got the 2010 Mac Pro. Other Macs I’ve had were a PowerBook G3 Wallstreet, a 13” 2012 MacBook Pro 2.9GHz i7, and my 15” 2012 MacBook Pro 2.6Ghz i7.

Mac 512E
Mac Plus
Mac LC
Tangerine 266MHz iMac
2004 1.8GHz 20” iMac G5
Late 2009 20.1” 3.06GHz i5 iMac
Mid 2011 27” 2.7GHz i5 iMac
Late 2012 2.6GHz Mac Mini
2009 5,1 Mac Pro

Mac Pro 1,1
Mac Pro 3,1
Mac Pro 6,1 (2)
too many Mac Minis
couple of 2011 - 2013 vintage 27" iMacs have come and gone. nice email checking boxes.
several Xserves if you want to count them as desktops

Now using HP Z820s & 620s - may Hackintosh one to replace a 6,1.

  1. 2001 PowerMac G4 466 (my first Mac!)
  2. 2002 PowerMac G4 Dual 1Ghz "Mirrored Drive Doors" ("Windtunnel" was a better nickname as the fans were incredibly noisy)
  3. 2006 iMac (1st gen Intel -- this was a bad choice at it was 32-bit and had a 2GB RAM maximum)
  4. 2009 Mac Pro which I've substantially upgraded and am still using as I await news on next year's Mac Pro design

I think there's only been four: a Performa 601, a 15" iMac G4, and then simultaneously an early 2009 iMac and a 2009 Mac Pro. The latter two are still running; the iMac was updated with SSD and does the house business, the 2009 MP was firmware updated to 2010, upgraded with a W3680 CPU, 24GB memory, various SSD's, and up until about a month ago was paying the mortgage. It's now in productive retirement as a Hadoop namenode.

We've actually been through more laptops than desktops, if my count is right.

Macintosh LCII
Performa 575
Quadra 700
Power Mac 6500
Power Mac G4 Quicksilver DP
iMac 13,2 (late 2012) currently use
Mac Book Air 6,1 (mid 2013) currently use

Call me crazy, but I absolutely loved the 6500 and hot rodded it to the max. My current Macs, despite their age, do everything I want/need. Buying a new Mac is fun, but I gotta hand it to Apple for building machines that last many years.

In fairness, I'm starting when I was a kid in my parent's home. It's funny because my dad is a Luddite (still doesn't carry a cell phone), but he always wanted us to have the most recent stuff.

Apple IIc
Apple IIe
Apple IIgs (best apple ever, with the possible exception of...)
Mac IIci
Powermac 6100 (not sure on the number designation, but I think that was it)
Performa 6460 with a $750 17" CRT :) This is where I started buying stuff instead of my dad.
iMac 2.33 GHz G3 (bondi)
iMac faster G3 (colored)
G3 tower single processor
Ge tower (mirror doors)
Dual G5 tower (first cheese grater we had)

And after that it gets boring. All intel stuff. I've lost track now as I have 5 kids and we have several family laptops kicking around.

Current desktops in our house are a 4,1 MP stock, a 5,1 with a 7970, dual 3.46, 48 GB ram, and a PCIe SSD. Also have a 2013 mac mini, fully upgraded with RAM and a SSD.

Ah, and can't forget that the 4,1 and 5,1 are sporting 30" ACD monitors.

Our family has had 3 PCs over the years. Usually we switched because we just couldn't hack the cost of a mac, but ended up switching back because of bad experiences. (Acer, Gateway, and some other off brand).

IIe Platinum (LOVED the IIe... the first computer I ever used)
IIGS
IIci
SE/30
Tangerine iMac
Dual 1ghz Quicksilver
2.33ghz 2006 20" iMac
pair of early 2009 24" iMacs
Mac Pro 1,1
Mac Pro 3,1
DP Mac Pro 4,1 (flashed to 5,1)

I've pretty much upgraded them all at some point. I love to tinker and an extremely saddened by the direction Apple seems to be heading with all the sealed boxes, and soldered components.

(1986 - 2009 various Atari, Commodore, OS/2 and MS DOS/Windows machines)

2010 iMac 21"
2013 iMac 27"
2018 MacPro from 2009 ;)
