Hello, I have been using Samsung Galaxy Note PRO 12.2 for a few years. It has a pen, file system, split screens and 4K cell phone features. I am considering whether or not to buy an iPad PRO. I read that iOS 11 has file system but Android tables have it for a long time. So, is there anything special about iOS that would make me move from Android tablet to iPad PRO?

Your file system and the "file system" for iOS 11 are very different. Android has a typical PC style. iOS, ... well let's call it evolving. If you need a file system, take a good hard look at the iOS system before you go that route.

iOS11 will not have PC/Mac style "file system"?

Integration of IOS without having to add other products. For what I do IOS does that great. I've never had battery or performance issues. My wife runs Android and all sorts of problems - battery stuff installing that screws up what she has setup.
But I have to say I guess I'm a weird guy because I care about what the device does and I don't care what the Icons or screen looks like as long as it does what I want and need it to do.

iOS 11 will have the same file system as iOS 10.3 and macOS High Sierra: APFS – Apple File System.
That is a modern PC/Mac style file system.

iOS 11 will not have a PC/Mac style file browser (like Finder or File Explorer) that allows you browse the file system hierarchy as is. It will have a file browser that displays user documents only in a view that is independent of their actual representation on the file system.

Still a bit confused... Do you expect there will be an app that will make PC/Mac style file browser possible?

We all are a bit confused as to where exactly Apple is going with this in iOS 11. However, I do not believe that they will ever implement a PC/Mac style file management system.

Maybe it is better to wait and see how iOS 11 goes before considering to buy an iPad PRO.

With iOS 11, you will be able to access all your documents via the File App, regardless of where the document resides, if the app vendor allows you.

Previously, if you created a document in an app like Documents, or PDF Expert, or you saved media to Box, or Drive, you'd have to go to that specific productivity app, or that specific storage app, to retrieve the file. The File App provides one place where you can see and manipulate all your document or media files. On Windows, it's like the Explorer app, on Mac it's like the Finder app, and on Android, it's the File Manager app.

The iOS File app does not allow you to view, read, or write to iOS system files like macOS, Windows, or Android. That is totally locked down.

Android Oreo has many bucket loads of features like iOS 11. But iOS pulls ahead with overall ease of use. Most Android devices have some weird input lag and touch experience is not ideal.

Feature catch up? You know that one of Oreos biggest features is notification badges, right?

You know a customizable control centre is one of iOS 11's biggest features? Same with AR!

A true dark mode will be one of iOS 12's main features? Maybe custom themes will be one of iOS 13's main features?

(poorly implemented) Widgets were one of iOS 8's biggest features. So were custom keyboards.

Maybe true live widgets that one can interact with similar to how OS X had them will one day be adopted on ios.

When will iPhone get true multitasking like iPads have? How long has android supported that prior to ios?

Will the new oled iPhone bring new live home screen wallpapers? the ability to download them? An always on display? Notification LED? Can we change the launcher or customise the layout by dragging and dropping icons yet? What about changing icon shapes or screen animations? Can we change the fonts in iOS yet?

Basically things you need to jailbreak ios in order to do things Android does natively.

Siri still has a ways to go before it catches up to Google now/assistant. Siri is great - oh yeah access to (limited) third party applications was a big feature in iOS 10; has been in android for quite some time. And the AI Google uses just works better and is more accurate.

ARkit is great and could end up leapfrogging Google but apple is only just now introducing it with ios 11...Has been in android developer ecosystem for sometime now.

More so with VR. Google is leagues ahead of iOS in the VR department.

This is only a handful of things. There are many minor things like clearing apps and such that android supported for sometime. I mean even the control centre itself was something android had prior to ios 7.

I understand this is an apple fan site so naturally negative opinions of android will persist - but at least have some consideration for the fact that android has brought some genuine contributions to mobile software that ios still hasn't adopted or has been slow to adopt from a feature parity perspective.

So yeah good for android on finally getting badges. It was annoying relying solely on the notification centre to gauge what badges communicate. And sure Android doesn't have anything like imessage or sending payments. But that's only a handful of features iOS has over it.

iOS has quite a further ways to go feature wise, as anyone familiar with both platforms can attest to.

iOS just looks better (both OS & apps), works smoother (generally), has quick software updates from Apple to all supported devices and is not made by Google.

I've owned multiple android devices and what made me like it was theme customization and game emulators. But I always came back to iOS because the apps are horrendous on Android. It's like that meme "Walmart vs. Chanel"

I don’t find a big difference in app quality on the two platforms. Both have some category that is better than the other. For example iOS has nothing as good as some Reddit clients on Android while default messaging apps on Android are kinda crap.

I think @Ixidor hits the nail on the head with their list of Pros and Cons for each OS.

I'm personally still on the fence with which OS is best I mainly think it's personal preference, I currently own an iP7 but in the last two/three years I've owned more Android devices (S7 Edge, LG G4, S6, Note 4, Z3, HTC M8) than iOS devices (iP7 and iP6s+); I used to work in a mobile phone store hence why I had so many devices, well that and I used to be a bit of a phone whore! :p

Still, I no longer have the free time I used to and I used to prefer Android to iOS mainly down to customisation alone, I used to love spending time changing themes, tweaking my phone and back in the day rooting it! Now I've matured I prefer a phone that just works and is stable which is why I moved back to iOS and chose an iP7.

I'll agree with most comments above there are pluses and minus to each OS but currently in my personal opinion Apple appear to be ahead and once they launch the iP8 will move ahead of Android.

IOS’s file system doesn’t give you access to system or app functionality critical files if that’s a requirement.

I guess I follow these software updates closely as I love what google is doing with android. But my last experience with an android phone, which was a nexus device, left a sour taste in my mouth. Everyone has their preferences but you can't question the quality of apples hardware, software, ecosystem and support. My interactions with apple support have been wonderful. I've read horror stories of people having to contact say LG for phone issues. Yeah you pay more but you get more and in most circumstances you get a device that just works in the iPhone.

I think you missed my point
See attached image. That's their changelog for a major update.

While apple has taken the slow and cautious route Google used the fu** it route. Now they're starting to a worry about performance, battery, and privacy (somewhat). If you like the careless route that's you, I'll wait and see how Apple tackles issues. Heck Android took force touch esque feautres too. That's something I really love on my iPhone. Of course they will never get it right since Android companies are all over the place. But you never really hear Google/Samsung copying in pop culture. Off topic. Digressing....

Yes it's cool Android can do some nice things like voice assistants and whatnot but is there interpretation good or rushed? Their notification system in my opinion is trash. I know it's unpopular opinion but it gets all over the place real fast. I get three notifs from one app and my status bar is filled with icons... useless icons that I really only need one of if that. The only thing I want in iOS notifs is grouped and collapsible and changing the damn padding. They evolve. Googles assistant got better through their view on privacy. Etc, etc.

Saying one platform is way ahead of another is an opinion since I think Android is still an infant while iOS has matured. iOS has full backup, full access to your cloud account in one place (two if you want to see your files), amazing update policy, and a design language that grows. Android needs to stick with one thing (design language, assistant, messaging app, etc) and grow up. To be totally honest it's almost there. Material is awesome and I really hope they stick to it longer than holo.

That changelog is an oversimplification. Perhaps a lazy written changelog, especially if you're used to seeing Apple changelogs...but probably is that Google just communicates their info differently, that's all. Trust me, they fix a heck of a lot of bugs.

I probably did miss your point if that is what you meant to say with the badges comment...but you had a short post to go from so I took it literally.

It is an opinion with respect to platform preference. That is what I originally said, in my initial post; they do the same thing, in effect as they both make phone calls, they both allow you to send texts etc...

I think Android has "grown up", just differently in 8 iterations vs. the path iOS took in 8 iterations. It caters to a different perspective on the smart phone...it is about customization and being an open source system that other manufacturers can adopt. As a result it has evolved differently than iOS. That's a good thing. Android *should* be its own thing, and not like iOS...just like Apple should continue to do their thing and not be like Android. The discussion of feature parity and features in one OS vs. the other is a separate consideration for the direction those OS's take.

Although Apple created the current philosophy as to what a smart phone experience is with the original iPhone and iPhone OS, Android has brought so many creative contributions to mobile OS that it has been the feature rich OS as opposed to iOS; A custom control centre is only just making it's way to iOS, after all. Badges being introduced into Oreo pales in comparison to all the things that made their way to iOS over the years from Android. Perhaps your sentiments are correct, and perhaps when Android is at it's 11th iteration perhaps it will have "grown up"

But Android is also a fantastic platform that is much better than the bashing and snarky comments it gets on this and other Apple fan sites..

The developer tools and app store security.
The hardware integration/efficiency.
The integration with the rest of the apple ecosystem.
